Kershaw Brawler Knife
Tom wrote in with a deal tip (thank you!):

I came across this deal today and wanted to flag it for anyone still in the market for an EDC knife for the holidays. I have no personal experience with it, but the reviews are solid and it’s less than half price right now.

The Kershaw Brawler (1990) has a 3″ tanto-style blade, black glass-filled nylon handles, and a SpeedSafe assisted opening mechanism.

They say that it’s “a reliable companion for any backpacker, first responder, hunter, angler, gardener, hiker or landscaper,” and can be used for tasks such as “opening packages, piercing holes, cutting cords, opening cans, wilderness rescue and breaking down boxes.”

Sale Price: $18.64

Personally, I’d recommend springing a little more for a Kershaw Dividend knife (reviewed here). Walmart has some exclusive Dividend colors. But, the Dividend is nearly double the price of this Brawler.

The Brawler’s tanto-style blade can be useful for general work tasks. It’s not something I’d carry or use myself, but it looks to be a well-reviewed knife for under $20.

While looking at this knife I also noticed the Kershaw Fatback (1935) is also heavily discounted now as well. $22, click the 5% coupon for additional savings.

Here’s the link for reference purposes.

The Fatback is a bigger knife (3.5″ blade), but does look to be another well-reviewed ~$20 option.

Thanks! I’ll be checking it out. The Brawler has a tanto blade, which is a no-go for me. Tantos are meant to be “tactical” (I suppose that means you can use them to stab people), but are bad at everything else, including ease of sharpening.

I’ve been carrying a Brawler for several years now. I own several EDC blades and have tried tried using them for the same tasks but keep coming back to the Brawler. It’s solid in hand and easy to maintain.

I have this model and thus far haven’t had any issues with it. It is Quite a bit heavier than my other pocket knives for EDC so I typically grab another knife instead. We men tend to carry a lot of stuff in our pockets like keys and such and over time the weight and bulk becomes a little too much. I don’t regret purchasing the knife but find my gerber with the thumb opener is more my weight preference. I do like the tanto blades the best for EDC in general becuase I enjoy their ability to cut along a straight line easier for me.
