Deal of the Day: Kershaw Leek Folding Knife – Made in USA for $24 (12/14/18)

Over at Amazon, today’s deal of the day features a selection of Kershaw Leek folding knives.

The stainless steel version is on sale for $24. Other styles are a little more, but also on sale.

Kershaw Leek Onion Knife Ergonomics

The Kershaw Leek knife, reviewed here, is a “gateway knife.” I splurged on one nearly a decade ago, and it opened my eyes as to what a good knife can offer. Before that, I had a couple of Gerber knives and multi-tools. The Kershaw was a big step up, and it started me down a path of folding knife enthusiasm.

The Leek is an assisted opener, and there’s a “safety” lock that prevents it from opening in your pocket.

It’s small enough to be extremely comfortable for EDC (everyday carry), while being large enough to be useful and practical. The blade was sharp out of the factory (I still remember being wowed by it), and has a useful shape for everyday use.

At $24, it’s a fantastic bargain!

A bunch of other styles are also on sale.

Deal ends at 3am ET 12/15/18, unless supplies sell out sooner.

Should you buy one? YES! Years later, with better and nicer folding knives in my EDC rotation, I still use my Leek on occasion. $24 is an excellent price for what you get. Back in 2009, I spent $38 for mine.

Kershaw Leek Onion Knife Internal Frame-Lock

In truth, I don’t know if the Leek would be my “first” gateway EDC knife anymore. I think that the Kershaw Dividend knife, reviewed here, grabs my attention a little better. Like the Leek, the Dividend is also made in the USA.

The Ruike P801, reviewed by Anthony here, is an excellent knife as well, regularly priced at $30. It’s not made in the USA, but it’s also not an assisted opener, a point in its favor in my book.

Bottom line, the Leek is a great knife, and at $24 it’s a great bargain. If you’re on the fence, it does go on sale every now and then – here’s a deal post from this past March. And if you skip or miss out on this deal, there are some other inexpensive knives that can serve as solid EDC offerings. I don’t say this to be discouraging, but to balance out the “everyone should buy this right away!!!” sentiments I feel whenever I see the Leek on sale at such low pricing. It’s hard not to be evangelical about the Leek when it is priced this low.

As always, know your local knife laws before buying something like this. Its size and style shouldn’t be a problem, but the burden is on you to be sure of that.

The 1660CBBW blackwash knife is fantastic. It is easily one of my favorite knives and holds an edge for a long time. I highly recommend this knife to anyone, especially at the $42 price. I paid much more for mine from Cabela’s when it was first released. This deal is so good I might just buy another!

I’ve been using this model of knife for years, and have owned several. It’s an excellent knife, especially at this price.

The Kershaw knives are great except for the safety, mines has broken twice they need to get stronger material or so.ething so this doesn’t happen again.

I had thought of buying a few as stocking stuffers but Amazon will not ship it to my primary location. They would ship to my other places – but that doesn’t do me much good for gift-giving. I guess they are illegal in my state/county.

For the olive drab leek, same price as I paid in August 2017. Not sure why you’re promoting these as special deals. Exceptional steel blade on the leek. I have 2 and they’ve relegated my Spydercos to the sock drawer as backups. The leeks edge angle is narrower and yet holds the edge much longer than the Spydies. Wonderful carry knife.

Why did I post about it? The Leek is a highly recommendable USA-made knife that’s typically ~$40, and it’s on sale for $24. That’s a great deal.

Maybe you bought yours during a similar deal? I bought my teal-handled one for $30 in December 2016 when there was a similar deal of the day.

The only problem with the teal is that the blade lock is a separate piece of metal inside the handle, whereas the blackwash and standard finish models use the frame of the handle for the lock. That just seams like a simpler design with less chances of failure.

I tend to like frame lock knives more, after being exposed to them in recent years, but “liner lock” knives are still very good, and in all the cases I’ve seen, just as secure.

Frame lock knives can actually be a little more finicky since, except for assisted openers, hand placement can affect ease of opening. Put a finger in the wrong place, and a frame lock knife can be difficult or even impossible to open. A liner lock knife requires less attention in this regard.

Considering the 3 camel website shows average pricing for the olive drab knife is $41.51 and this being the lowest it has been sold at I appreciate the time Stuart took to post this deal.

BTW Stuart thank you, ordered a couple through the links for gifts!

Thanks for the heads up! I own several EDC knives, the leak was also one of my first. I lost my last orange leek several months ago and have been meaning to replace it!

You’re a rat. I didn’t need these! Got myself a serrated one (have a plain edge), one for a nephew, and one for…?

    Bye, $75.

Picked one of these up, can’t wait! I’ve been looking at this for a while and finally pulled the trigger. It’s an ounce lighter than my cryo, with a 3” blade.
