Our friends (and affiliate) over at BladeHQ sent us a heads-up about their National Knife Day deals. The promos end 8/25/2019.
I took a quick look, and there are some good deals, including on some Kershaw and Zero Tolerance knives that I’ve used or tested and can recommend. The ZT 0566CF is a good deal at $130. The G-10-handled version (0566), which I purchased a couple of years back, is also on sale for $130.

There are quite a few mid-priced knives on sale, at ~$30 to ~$70, perfect for a “first EDC” or “real” pocket knife. A couple of entry-priced Kershaw knives are also on sale, such as the Induction and Agile.
The CRKT Caligo Blade HQ Exclusive edition looks to be a good buy at $37. The regular model features a different blade steel and is currently priced at $40. The Caligo is currently priced at $49 via Amazon. The BladeHQ exclusive has a D2 tool steel blade, and the regular model has a 8Cr13MoV steel blade. I’d likely go for the D2 tool steel BladeHQ exclusive version over the basic blade steel of the regular model, especially at this sale price.
Looking at a Google cache, the BladeHQ version of the Caligo seems to have been priced at $45 prior to the sale. If that’s accurate, $8 savings would be a discount of ~18%.

Or, scroll through and look at some of the bizarre designs, such as the zebra-themed Sog keychain knife, or the CRKT trauma shears, which look too “busy” for me to take it seriously. There’s also a Schrade “Tanto Magic spring assisted” knife that just looks cheesy to me.
The Todd Rexford titanium utility knife blade multi-tools aren’t bizarre, but they are astonishingly pricey. The bronze-finish model shown here is $135, and there’s a silver-finish model for $125.
Deal Info(via BladeHQ)
There are a couple of other sales going on right now at BladeHQ: Kershaw Knife Sale | Spyderco Knife Sale | Boker Knife Sale .
As part of the Knife Day sale, you can get a free vintage-styled pennant flag with orders over $85, and a pack of sweet playing cards with orders over $150. Ground shipping is free on orders over $99.
Update: The playing cards freebie is sold out.
I should mention that some of the knives included in the sale might not be legal to own. For example, some states ban civilians from owning automatic knives without any explainable lawful purpose. The American Knife & Tool Institute is a good place to start your research.

Thanks for starting me down this road a couple of years ago. The entry level stuff sure makes me want to step up a little. I wish I truly used one enough to justify that ZT. Very nice.

You’re welcome!
ZTs are great knives, but you have to really know what you want to get the most out of them. Quality knives are worth it, even if only used occasionally.
My first “real” knife, aside from cheap Gerbers, was a Kershaw Leek, and after that was tempted by Spyderco before going with a Benchmade mini Griptilian with thumbhole.
When you’re ready for an upgrade from whatever you have now, you’ll know. Or, a good time might be when you have a gift card or credit card reward points burning a hole in your pocket.

Are these deals better than Black Knife Day, Cyber Knife Day, or Prime Knife Day? LOLOLOL
Stuart
Of course! This is the only deal in memory where you can get a key-shape-handled cheetah-print keychain knife for $2.99!

Actually, the Todd Rexford titanium utility knife is bizarre. I would never let a friend use that tool on a beer bottle.
The bottle opener is located to inflict maximum damage if used when the knife blade is not fully retracted.

I never do skinning, so I lean toward a reverse tanto, similar to a wahrncliffe. Unfortunately, there are few choices, among which are Benchmade 940-1, Oerla TAC, Kershaw Deadline, Spyderco Yojimbo, and not too many more.
