Twingrips are awesome. I took a chance and bought two pairs when they first hit the market and I’m very glad I did. This is a great price especially since this is the model with the upgraded cushion handles. I think I paid $36 a pop for mine, and they are the more basic dipped handle.
If you were considering getting yourself a pair, grab them. These would also be a great gift.

As a gift idea… actually that might make a lot of sense!
Reading that I first thought, “I’ve got them and use them only rarely, so what does the average homeowner want with something so specialized”.
Then I realized: the reason I don’t use mine much because I’ve got so many different styles of pliers – I’m only grabbing these when I want that particular jaw style. However, they probably make pretty good general-purpose pliers too.
For context, I basically consider slip-joint pliers to be relics – everything they do, another style of plier does better. Twin-grips are different because they slip to five different sizes and are good at grabbing straight-on.
As an alternative for someone who actually uses slip-joint pliers? These are probably awesome.

I share your opinion of standard slipjoints but I think these are a whole different animal. These are great. And I think they’re a good gift because they’re somewhat universal: If someone doesn’t have any pliers then these can do many tasks. If someone already has tools then they may appreciate their more niche uses.

Wera tools are usually higher than what you can get them for elsewhere or if you wait for a sale. Halder and NWS tend to be the best you can generally get them for, especially with 10% off.
KC Tool just added a bunch of Witte tools, as well as the most recent Wera that seem to be price-matched across retailers.
If you stick with Knipex, the relatively new forged wire strippers are good.

This is not mean to be a put down, but a straight. Question: How is this Kniper better than the Engineer brand “Neji-Saurus RX?” (Yes, an unfortunate name.)

I bought the Engineer a while back, and while I don’t use it often, when I need to, it’s great.
The gripping groves pattern in the jaws look the same between the two. The overcoat on the handles is surprisingly comfortable. All the area with grooves on the handles is on the inside surface, so not where my hands grip it. The action is very smooth. It’s also a very handsome looking tool. The kniper looks like it got pushed out of the nest by a bigger sibling chick. Not that matters to the functionality, but on the other hand you don’t use these that often, so they have to earn their keep some how.

I have both. The Knipex are bigger and have multiple adjustments for the hinge joint. This allows you to grab a larger screw or bolt head and keep the jaws parallel so they are less likely to slip off, and also keeps the handles at a much more comfortable distance from each other as well. For smaller screws they work equally well, the Knipex have longer handles which give more leverage but take more space to use.
The Knipex jaws also have a much bigger main gripping area for grabbing/holding things. So far the nod goes to the Knipex until you realize they have no cutter of any kind. No wire cutter might not matter to some, but is something I need on my EDC pliers, so I carry the Wilde/Tekton angle nose mechanics pliers for EDC and keep the Knipex and Enginers in the shop for when I really need them.

I wanted these since they came out but I have a large pair of the Engineer pliers that have similar teeth and I only use them like once a month or so. I picked up the snapon LN47ACF slipjoint needle nose and I feel like it’s kind of similar too. I’m sure these are great though.

I thought Vampliers are US-market Engineer pliers; for whatever reason, Engineer decided to use a different brand for the US market.
My first Neji-Saurus is on the way, so it’ll be interesting to compare to my Twin Grip. From what I’ve read, the Neji-Saurus is a lot smaller, and not as robust (although maybe some reviewers were using it for bigger screws than it can really handle). I’m hoping the Twin Grip and Neji-Saurus will complement each other.

“Vampliers” is a trademark of Hashi Link Corporation – an importer located in Irvine California. Engineer (Engineer Inc) – formerly Futaba Tool Manufacturing Co., Ltd. – is located in Osaka Japan. I’m not sure if there is a relationship between the 2 companies – other than that Hashi Link apparently sells rebranded Engineer Co. pliers under the Vampliers trademark.

Sir, I just saw the Engineer Neji-Saurus WP-2 Pump Plasaurus screw extraction water pump pliers (what a long name). They adjust just like the Cobras, but have the same screw extraction grooves on the tip. Quite interesting. The asin is: B087BXPGWZ

The handle design seems like an improvement. I wish they made jaws/teeth like that on a vise-grip style plier, I find a lot of effort goes into death-gripping the handles to hold on to the screw and then on top of that you have to twist to try to break the screw free.

Calling these slip-joint pliers is terribly unfair. I just received mine and was nicely surprised at the Cobra-like jaw adjustment they have. Very nice pliers. I’m probably going to get another pair to keep in my home tool kit.
