My trust in the quality and versatility of Kobalt tools has been shaken in recent months, but they still have some decent quality and interesting tools in their product line. This 23-piece ball hex set seems to be one such hidden gem.
The 23-piece hex key set comes with 9 metric and 13 inch hex keys, which feature ball hex tips on the longer ends, and straight hex tips on the shorter ends. A dual-action T-grip handle attaches to the hex keys to allow for easier gripping and in some cases higher torque delivery.

I imagine that there’s nothing special about the hex keys themselves, but the single T-handle grip looks to greatly increase the versatility of the set. Having only one T-handle helps to lower costs, and because it’s removable you can use the T-handle when possible and the L-wrenches by themselves in tight quarters.
The set also comes with carrying case to help keep the hex wrenches all in one place.

Looks like a fantastic option for saving space in a small carry box rather than have T-handles.
Even better if those holes on the end let you stick the hex keys in lengthwise and turn it into a cushioned handle for lots of extra torque without hurting your hand pulling on the thin shaft.
I’m surprised other tool companies that innovate in hex keys, especially the European ones, haven’t already come up with this.

After reading the review and knowing I had to replace my hex key set that was borrowed and never returned,I went to the big “blue store” that carries Kobalt tools to get this set. They were all out. The salesman said “for some reason there has been a run on these in the last two days” The power of the blog.

I’m seeing the same – few stores in my area have the ball hex set while they all have the straight hex sets. ToolGuyd doesn’t have anywhere near the reach to cause a nationwide sellout, so maybe it was mentioned elsewhere as well.

Do not buy this, the handle is all plastic and the holes the allan keys go into start to bore out and after a few uses will no longer be tight enough to be used. Great Idea but bad execution.
