The Kobalt mini tool box is once again available online at Lowe’s, after only being sold in-store-only for a couple of weeks.
This is a compact tool box that can be used to hold all kinds of stuff. It has 2 friction-glide drawers and a top lid compartment.
Is it superbly made? No. But, it’s decent for $20.

I passed on buying one the first time I saw these tool boxes Lowe’s, but didn’t make the same mistake when I saw them again few weeks ago.
There are 7 color options – grey, black, white, blue, pink, green, and red.
At this time, the blue, black, and pink are out of stock for my zip code. All of the other colors are available.
Basically, it’s now available in the colors that weren’t available at stores for Black Friday. The only exception is white, which was stocked in stores as well. Black and blue boxes might still be available at Lowe’s stores, but probably not as they were a Black Friday doorbuster promo.
It looks like Lowe’s will only ship these mini tool boxes for a $79 fee and $79 minimum order amount. I couldn’t tell you why – these are small and light tool boxes, not the larger ones that require freight delivery charges.
Update: It’s now shipping with far-lower fees on smaller orders, or for free with $45+ orders.

Some years ago when I was trying to buy something light on line, an outdoor seat cushion, from Lowe’s, it showed as in stock on line, but had an exorbitant shipping price. I don’t remember if it had a huge min order. I didn’t buy. When I asked at the local stores they said the system does that when Lowes doesn’t actually have any in stock on line. That struck me as so strange I remembered.

My wife wants the pink one, but it is eternally out of stock so I give up. I ordered three white ones, free shipping over $45. I didn’t see any of them in store.

I got two in-store (white and blue) for Black Friday and they are okay at $12.98 — the drawers are a bit sticky (maybe that will get better with usage and once loaded up?)
Still debating on how to load them up — a bit disappointed that the 18-compartment small organizers from Harbor Freight don’t quite fit.
Interestingly, the painted logo is the same size as the plastic molded one I removed from a larger workbench…

I’d like to get in store. Where were these in yours? Hardware aisle or where storage was? Near the Kobalt/Craftsman storage chests?
BTW: Lowes had a Pella windows deal (ended 11/29) that was sick. I mean, 20% off custom Pella windows and install. 24month finance no interest on lowes card. It was on a paper at the millwork desk. I never would have known this had I walked in the local Lowes and saw this sheet on their desk.

The two white ones were still in a box and up high above the racks so that a forklift had to be used to get them down.
The last two were still in a display at the front of the store.

I think I’d be truly interested in a bigger-than-this Middle Chest box that I could keep on a desktop or workbench. The middle chest thing would not have a top lid, so other things could live on top, and have good drawers/slides to hold more than these things. But also a lot smaller than a “real” middle chest.
Like the size of a normal tool box with drawers, but without the opening top. I’d get one or two of those…

I went black Friday and was able to get a pink and white one. There was a woman who had 2 overflowing shopping carts of them. Lowe’s didn’t limit the qty. I’ve just been randomly checking the store lately and was able to get a blue one & a black one.
