Kreg Mini Pocket Jig Produt Shot

In the ToolGuyd forums, mattd alerted us to this Kreg mini pocket hole jig deal. When you add the item to your Lowe’s cart, it comes up as $8.23. With tax and free-to-store shipping you should be able to keep the price under $10.

Mattd also provided links to Amazon and Home Depot, but Amazon was sold out and I was unable to add the jig to my cart at Home Depot.

The list price on this tool is $15 and I’ve definitely seen it for less, but under ten is a pretty good deal.

Discussion

I used the Kreg mini pocket hole jig for years, before I got a bigger size. It’s small, works well and doesn’t take up much space. Honesty I still preferentially grab it when I have a few pocket holes to drill. I just use a couple of brass setup bars to align the jig, clamp it down, and drill.

I’m not sure if this sale is because stores are clearancing the old Kreg pocket hole jigs to make room for the new 30 series jigs as shown here. The 300 series jigs are modular and can be used individually or with spacers snapped in between.

The biggest difference between the two is that the stepped drill bit on the one on sale appears to be a ‘drill bit’. I have it, but when I went to replace the bit, I purchased the hex sided one that goes into my impact driver or similar chuck. The bit by itself costs more, too.

I think they must be making room for the new jig. Home Depots in my area (and as far as 100 miles away from me) have been clearance selling a lot of the Kreig stuff including the pocket hole set. My local Home Depot sold them all at $5.99. I picked up two.

That’s less than what Amazon gets for a replacement drill bit. My nearest Lowes is 35 miles away, so it doesn’t make sense for me to pick it up, but it’s a good deal for most people.

yeah, I missed out online back up to 14 bucks, I’m in the same boat nearest Lowes is like 25/30 miles not worth the drive to check out, especially this time of year. I miss the Lowes member free shipping, I was able to get some great clearance items without leaving the house.

Newer to the wood projects. Was thinking about purchasing this but what are the brass set up blocks Benjamin mentioned to secure the jig?

      Probably 1-2-3 machinist blocks:

Sorry, I meant bars, not blocks. They are not for securing the jig, but for positioning it. For instance if you want the holes to even on both sides, you’d put a 1/2″ bar at the edge, put the jig against it, and clamp it.

For reference, these aren’t the ones I have, but they illustrate what they are: https://www.rockler.com/precision-brass-setup-bars?sid=V9146

That new 300 series jig looks pretty cool! I like the modular spacer idea. It would definitely save time when drilling multiple holes.

Just got 2 of them. $5 each at Lowe’s. They are on clearance. They should be able to tell you which stores have them. Good luck, happy hunting
