Leatherman Raptor Rescue

Leatherman Raptor Rescue Scissors in Blue and Yellow

The Raptor Rescue is Leatherman’s first and best-featured folding shears, featuring a ring cutter, oxygen tank wrench, carbide glass breaker, ruler, and strap cutter.

Are they overbuilt for everyday tasks? Absolutely. While designed for first responders and similar rescue professionals, the Raptor Rescue can be used by others in all kinds of environments.

I bought a pair when it first came out more than a decade ago, and would buy it again without hesitation.

New color options came out earlier this year.

Leatherman Adapt Kit

Leatherman Adept Kit with Tools and Accessories

The Leatherman Adapt Kit – a recently launched accessory – is a durable tech and tool organizer for carrying your gear on the go.

It also comes with a removable silicone tray that you can use for quick field repairs or cleaning.

If you need something different, Leatherman also has a smaller zippered Tool Pouch.

I really like the idea of the Adapt Kit, and hope Leatherman further explores this product category.

The Leatherman Skeletool is a superb compact and minimalist multi-tool, with pliers, knife blade, removable bit screwdriver, and bottle opener.

It features a pocket clip and carabiner clip.

Mine have held up well over the years. If I had a do-over, I’d definitely get another one today, but I’d opt to get it customized.

    How is Leatherman’s quality nowadays?

There’s been lots of reports of their wire cutters not being good and breaking frequently on the newest models including the arc. Allegedly leatherman was going to fix the design.

I’m really hoping my local Costco gets the skeletool/kbx combo- I’ve checked a few times and they haven’t gotten it yet.

Regarding the gift guide- I really like my micra. I go back and forth between that and my Gerber Dime. The Dime has pliers and a great bottle opener, but the Micra is more polished and smaller which is better for a keychain. The Micra also needs to be opened to access the tools which keeps them from filling with dust from pockets.

A lot of “Free” stuff I don’t need. What I need is a discount on the price, not fluff that will soon be in a drawer. What has happened to Toolguyd – last Leatherman I bought was recommended by you during Christmas. A Skeletool was 35.00 at Home Depot then. Did you stop finding deals and report them or are you just another gift guide with links to full price product?

Interesting tack- obviously Stu doesn’t have control over the discounts and promos that brands offer. I agree that I’d prefer a standard discount to fluff or freebies. But you can only report what’s out there. Costco has an exclusive Leatherman combo right now, but it doesn’t seem to be available everywhere (yet?).

Michael – in the one and only other comment you ever wrote here, you said: “Life is change, and so has business.” That’s pretty appropriate here, don’t you think?

Unfortunately, no one is getting a Skeletool for $35 without a time machine these days.

Personally, I like “free gift with purchase” promotions.

I agree with Scott K here. Stuart can only honorably report on the actual prices. Even if those prices may be disappointing, it’s sometimes a trigger for the readership to alert everyone of a better price on the tool. As the readership is pretty good about that, that cross fertilization happens fairly regularly. Then armed with that data, it’s up to each individual to make their somewhat informed purchasing decision. Yes, if I cared at all about EDC, I would prefer base price reduction rather than fluff. But some die hard letterman fans may love the freebies. Stuart’s just reporting what he can. I will say on other tool sites with compared coverage in scope, they are much less critical of the manufacturer info provided to them. Everything is great it seems. Stuart appears to calls out the warts as he sees them. There’s one other site whose scope is less, but when they do cover a tool, they really go into a lot of detail and seem to be quite fair.

I like the Leatherman adapt kit, but $70 seems triple what other small packs cost.

Yeap. That’s the one. And showing at $61.99, that’s 4 dollars cheaper than I saw in store. Though the store one was black finish I think, if that matters.

Thanks! My local store hasn’t gotten them yet. Awesome that the online price dropped from the higher amount. Just ordered mine.

Mine just arrived – my initial impression is that this will likely become favorite knife/tool for everyday carry. The outside accessible knife opens really smoothly and it’s nice to open the tool and have a screwdriver ready to go. The pliers don’t open as easily as my older Wingman but that’s probably something that will break in over time. I don’t understand why the pliers aren’t spring loaded but that seems to be the norm for nicer Leathermans (right?). The KBx is a little smaller than I expected which makes one hand opening trickier. It came very sharp and the mechanism is smooth. Locks and unlocks with minimal effort.
