Leatherman quietly came out with 10 new single-piece mini pry bar multi-tools that look like they could be excellent EDC companions.
These new By the Numbers tools, which are all priced at $11-$13 with free shipping, are all just slightly different from each other, mainly in how the pry bar tip is designed. Two of the new tools, models 4 and 5, offer extra features, and the other styles are available with inch or metric wrench sizes.

All of the new Leatherman By the Numbers multi-tools are made in the USA from corrosion-resistant 420 stainless steel. The tools are about 2.5″ long and weigh 0.5 or 0.6 ounces, making them great for EDC (every day carry) on a keychain, or in a bag or pocket.
Each tool is priced at $11, except for #4 and #5, which are $13 each.
It’s almost as if Leatherman polled users to see what they wanted in a small single-piece pocket tool, and then made a different tool to satisfy everyone’s desires and requests.
There are 6 unique By the Numbers tool styles (1-6), with 4 of the others (7-10) featuring metric box wrench sizes instead of inch/fractional ones.

The “box wrench” parts of these are about useless – the tools aren’t large or long enough for any amount of loosening/tightening torque on any nut or bolt that is actually holding anything.
Only the #4 seems like it is anything different and innovative from their already-popular Brewzer tool, which is heat-treated stainless steel and only $10.
Really, you can just get a cheap-o mini pry bar and cut it down, drill a hole on the end, and have a custom keychain pry bar for a lot less money.

I actually own a American made Leatherman Brewzer and compared to all of these “tools” the Brewzer is FAR much better. 1/4 inch screwdriver insert driver, oxygen wrench, scrapper, slotted driver, pry bar, bottle opener and even functions as a knife as well. In a pinch, the bottle opener area could also be used to remove light nails as well.
Tool Freak is most correct in the respect this item isn’t large enough and hence can’t really provide enough torque to remove or install any nuts or bolts easily. I am sure this can be done, but not easily.
If one is looking for a dedicated smaller pry bar, I’d recommend the Widgy bar. American made and around, if not slightly cheaper price.

I always thought of leatherman brand as a good item but after this, I kind of have my doubts now.
Take for example bottle opener #1-2-7-8, the tip is ROUNDED compared to #3’s bottle opener tip. Hmmm…based on my analogy, a sharp tip will grab the bottle caps edge better than a rounded one….
I would not consider none as EDC for me….if I was to buy one, I would buy either #2 or #8 just to use it as a opening tool for electronics. If you open a lot of electronics, you know what I mean. I’m using one similar like this one (non gold)….

As bottle opener, I usually just twist the cap with my hand. If it cannot be twisted, I use another bottle upside down (in the right angle) to pop the cap. Also, keys can be used to. Mainly not that big of a deal for me where I live though….
Regarding the box opener, that can only mean cutting the plastic tape….can’t picture cutting the actual box paper with this thing. For cutting the plastic tape, you can use your finger nail (they develop a sharp edge due to wear and tear at the end), car keys, pen/pencil, hmmm…pill the tape off…..normally no big deal for real men lol…
Over all, seems gimmicky…like #3 how can I used the screwdriver that is lower than the other with out the higher one getting in the way?
