Amazon kicked off their Black Friday 2024 deals week, and a surprising number of Leatherman multi-tools and EDC gear are included in the sale.
ALL Leatherman FREE series tools are a whopping 30% off, and the Raptor Rescue is also included in this deal with a 15% discount.
The FREE series tools are Leatherman’s best multi-tools, except for the ARC which builds upon much of the same features and engineering.

Leatherman FREE P4 Multi-Tool – $104.96 (reg $149.95, save 30%)
The P4 is Leatherman’s second-best multi-tool, just after the ARC, which is priced at $229.95 (via Leatherman).
I own this model and have nothing but good things to say about it, although I wish I was able to get mine for this price.

Leatherman FREE P2 Multi-Tool – $90.96 (reg $129.95, save 30%)
The P2 has fewer main functions than the P4, and as such is a little slimmer. It skips the saw and combines plain and serrated edges into a single knife blade.

Leatherman Raptor Rescue Folding Shears – $84.96 (reg $99.95, save 15%)

The Raptor Rescue is designed for first responders and rescuers, but is a great tool for general EDC as well. It features shears, a carbide glass breaker, strap cutter, oxygen tank wrench slot, ruler, and holster.
There are 6 color options included in this promo.
If you like the idea of folding shears but the price is still a bit high, check out the Raptor Response, which is discounted to $59.96 at Leatherman.

Leatherman Free K2 Folding Knife – $62.96 (reg $89.95, save 30%)
The K2 is a knife-centric multi-tool with a couple of additional tools and features.
Other colors are also on sale.

Leatherman FREE T2 EDC Multi-Tool and Folding Knife – $34.96 (reg $49.95, save 30%)
Compared to the K2, the T2 is smaller and also has a smaller knife blade. It reminds me more of a Swiss Army Knife in how the knife is one of several tools, rather than being the main feature.

Leatherman FREE T4 EDC Multi-Tool and Folding Knife – $48.96 (reg $69.95, save 30%)
The T4 is larger than the T2, with a couple more tools and features.
Did any of these Leatherman deals win you over? Between these and Leatherman’s Classics deals, there’s something for nearly every preference.

This post made think this was a good place to ask this question. What would be a good first knife/multi-tool for my 11 year old daughter? She is very responsible and crafty and tends to be the McGuver of the family to the point where something along these lines makes sense to add to her toolbox.
Stuart
What type of usage? Outdoors? Hobby? Cardboard?
I’d lean towards maybe a Victorinox, such as the Super Tinker https://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-Swiss-Super-Tinker-Pocket/dp/B000MLU8PE/?tag=toolguyd-20 .
10 years from, now, when she’s an adult presumably with a full tool box and maybe a couple of Leatherman tools, that Victorinox will still be distinct and useful.
Or, take a look at some of the colorways for the Skeletool, which aren’t on sale.
I’d think a sheepsfoot-style knife might be good for a first-timer, but can’t find any good recommendations. The Leap and Juice lines https://14cyiuhvcgv.com/leatherman-multi-tools-2014-leap-juice/%3C/a%3E were discontinued; those might have been perfect.
Scott K
This is an excellent recommendation and it’s reasonably priced for the quality. My first SAK was very similar to this. My only Victorinox that sees use is the Alox Pioneer – it’s hard to want to carry anything other than a Leatherman once you have one…
Adabhael
I also endorse a Victorinox. If your kid is outdoorsy, the Huntsman adds a pretty handy woodsaw to the super tinker. That’s my first SAK and remains a favorite, and my daughter will likely get one this year too!
Stuart is right that the juice line was perfect here: I gave lots of those as gifts over the years, and I’m still sad that that was discontinued too early for my kids, and frustrated there is nothing equivalent available.
Joe
Thanks! I think the huntsman is perfect! She was just yesterday cutting small branches to fashion her own Christmas wreath!
DC
That Victorinox is a great call. Still have mine that I got when I was 12
Yadda
Great recommendation. Hard to go wrong with this choice. Plus you might be able to find it in a scale color other than red if she has a favorite color.
Wayne R.
I second the idea of a Victorinox in the hands of a (responsible) kid. I still have my first one…
One angle to use too is that scuffed/busted plastic scales can be removed and replaced easily, so getting one that’s a bit abused can be an opportunity to customize things to the recipient’s desire. There are a zillion scale choices on Etsy.
The gift will hit a little better if Dad’s got one too, right?

LEATHERMAN, Style PS. No knife blade (but small pliers, scissors and screwdriver) so if she accidentally takes it to school she won’t get expelled.
Dave
Make sure it has a locking blade, especially on multitools since the blade position is often awkward. Leatherman T4 is a solid choice, second only to the ARC in my opinion.
Jake
Another recommendation would be the Leatherman Micra. Lots of good colors, very small, nice set of everyday urban tools.
Jason
Remember when the Skeletool was under $30 for Black Friday? How in the world did the prices increase to $90 for those… probably the best multi-tool out there but these prices are crazy!
Stuart
Higher material and labor costs?
I’m guessing those HD deals were loss leaders, and Leatherman worked hard over a long time to build up the volume necessary to stock every store.
It’s been 8 years. That kind of deal pricing is never coming back.
Lincoln
They are on sale at amazon and bass pro shops for 60, but yeah I definitely regret not getting a couple more when they were that cheap.
Jim Felt
I love their tools and truly wish I wasn’t a mere Leatherman “collector”. Just never been an everyday blade carrier. I guess just too many metal detectors in my life?
Great post though.

Funny how a bunch are on Amazon but they are discontinued on the leatherman website. Wonder if they were saved for this occasion?
Stuart
The last I checked, Leatherman said the Free P2 and P4 tools have become Amazon exclusives. The P4 was a Prime Day deal for the same price in July.
They could be producing them in batches for these high volume sales events.
AllenN
Interesting! Was not aware of that. Thanks!
Nathan S
Stuart, you called the Free P4 their 2nd best multitool. Is this then a better deal than the Wave+? What’s your opinion: spring the extra, or get a Wave?
Stuart
Subjectively speaking, I’m attached to the Wave design since it was my first “better” multi-tool.
Objectively speaking, the Free series tools are better with respect to opening, closing, and tool access. You lose the bit holder from the Wave.
There are other tools that are kind of like the Wave, such as the Charge, Surge, or Wingman and Sidekick at lower pricing, but nothing else that are like the Free P2, P4, or Arc.
It’s been easier to find the Wave+ (on sale or regular price) than the Free P2/P4. If you change your mind and want to try the other style, it’s safer to get the Free now and consider the Wave+ later, than to go the other way around.
We know the Wave+ deal will last through December, unless it sells out which seems unlikely. We don’t know how long the Free deals will last, or if they’ll sell out.
Personally, I think the Free P4 is a better deal. Whether it’s a better tool comes down to preference. Subjectively, I cannot easily answer the question. Objectively, I’d say yes. Deal-wise, I feel the Free P4 and other deals might be more fleeting. The availability for the Free P4 has been unsteady.
If you can’t think of a reason why the Wave+ might be better for your needs, the P4 might be the better way to go.
Except for the Skeletool, I reach for my Free-series tools more than my Wave or other Leatherman multi-tools.

Thanks for the thorough reply, Stuart: very helpful!
(and one of the many reasons why I’ve been a reader here for 15 years)
Nathan S
I should add that I’m leaning toward the Free P4, due to your comments above. I need to be quick, though… I don’t know how many times I’ve sat on a recommendation of yours only for a sale to go off or for stock to run out!
Stuart
Thanks, I try! It was a tough question, so I figured the best approach would be to run through it as if I had to make a decision for myself.
Some of the deals that I wanted to post about yesterday but put off for today are now over or out of stock, and I can’t tell if Amazon is holding onto inventory for next week, or the promos were designed to be fleeting. I suspect that these Leatherman deals will run through next week, but it’s impossible to say if there’s a timer or if quantities are limited.
Leatherman doesn’t sell the Free P2 or P4 multi-tools direct anymore, saying they’re exclusively available via their store on Amazon. My guess is that they specially produced a batch for Amazon’s BF promos, but there’s no way to know much beyond that.
I would encourage you to buy first and think it through later. But, Amazon has also been a little more difficult about returns lately, holding onto the funds for longer. I’m not sure you want to tie up $100 unless you’re certain. And if you were certain, you’d have ordered already without hesitation.
It’s okay to think these things through. If you miss the deal, there will be something else at another time.
