Over at Home Depot, the awesome Leatherman Skeletool multi-tool is on sale for just $30.
If I had to guess, I would predict that Amazon might match Home Depot’s price, as they have done sometimes in the past with other Leatherman holiday promo deals, but I’m not very convinced of this.

I controlled my “wow this is a fantastic deal” urging and only bought one Skeletool. I have one from the first year these came out, but wanted another, especially at this price.

When I checked back yesterday, I saw that the display was put out in the sales floor and that most of the Skeletools were sold out. There are only 8 left at my local Home Depot, and we’re still more than 2 weeks away from Thanksgiving and Black Friday.
Ben’s been doing some deal legwork as well, and saw that at his local Home Depot there was a Leatherman Rev multi-tool display, although it was loaded with Skeletool tools.

I don’t think that the Leatherman Skeletool will drop in price at all – $30 is a heck of a great price as it is. What I think is that Home Depot plans to completely sell out of Leatherman Skeletool deals, after which they’ll replace the empty Skeletool display with lower-priced Leatherman Rev multi-tools.
The Rev will sell at $20, which is a good deal, but not as great as $30 for a Skeletool.
Right now you can buy the Skeletool online or locally, and if you ask me, I think it’s going to sell out well ahead of the holiday season.

I saw the Skeletool at my local HD. Notice any other good deals in the holiday display? I tried to focus my browsing on only what I “need.” I was thinking about the Milwaukee parts organizer and an air tool accessory set.

I grabbed mine! I really like how the screwdriver mode basically makes a normal size handle. Sadly, I wish it had a normal knife blade.
I wish I would have picked up a Wingman last year for $20. It seems to have settled around $30, but that seems like a better EDC since I like having scissors. I have to take my Victorinox Classic with the Skeletool to be completely functional. And potentially a straight folder as well.
I really wish that the Wave and/or Surge would go on sale. Those seem better for roaming the woods or doing really work.

I don’t think I have ever seen the Wave deeply on sale, but I did buy a Surge on sale once. At the time I also bought a second Super Tool 300.
But… we’re talking 5 years ago. Backcountry had a separate outlet store where they sold overstocked tools and such, “Department of Goods,” and it might have been a coupon code and not an upfront discount.
There was a Leatherman deal over 2 years ago that I posted about – https://14cyiuhvcgv.com/leatherman-wave-multi-tool-sale-aug2013/%3C/a%3E . At the time it was a great deal. Compared to today’s prices, that price would be phenomenal.
Leatherman indicated that their manufacturing costs were going up, but I thought that was limited to the Wingman and Sidekick entry-level tools.
I spent much more than $30 on my Skeletool, but I don’t regret it, as it gave me years of good service. No regrets at the higher price.

I’m guessing since those two are in the more “premium” offerings they likely do not go on sale as often or as much. Especially since they offer so many different models now.
I just have a hard time spending $80-100 on a pocket tool. But in a few years when I am spending more time hiking/backpacking/hunting it will be more important. I have time to watch for a good deal. In the mean time I can get by with less. I have a PST and a Gerber from 20 years ago that will suffice for now. I am just looking forward to moving them to glovebox and range bag.

I got one of these, as well. Couldn’t help myself, as I seem to have a weakness for Leatherman tools at a discount. I got in on the $20 Wingman deal last year and really like it, as well. I don’t know which gives the best value at regular price, but if you are even thinking about a Skeletool, $30 is a heck of a deal.

Seriously we get royally screwed over here, the best price I can get for this one is 65€ (about 70$). I really would like a Leatherman but I keep pushing back each time I see the price.

After reading a forum thread on how the tools Leatherman sells to big box home improvement centers in bulk at a special holiday price seem to have quality control issues like loose plier hinges and irregular knife blade edges, I’m probably going to pass on getting these at HD, unless they are just a few dollars at some after-holiday clearance sale.
I understand WHY Leatherman would sell second-tier quality tools at a reduced price in bulk to high-volume retailers for the holidays, and they offer the warranty so dissatisfied customers could always mail in their tool for a new replacement, but I’m a little concerned that helping the sales of bulk holiday tools only encourages this practice to continue.
Walmart recently discontinued carrying Leatherman products entirely. I’m guessing that, as with their other suppliers, they were told to meet a new lower price point for this holiday season, and they either couldn’t do it, or, better yet, told off walmart and decided to focus on selling products at a profit rather than a loss just to have their product in a certain retailer.
I’d rather Leatherman keep producing high-quality tools at a decent price, rather than ever-decreasing-quality tools at a discount price.

Thanks for the heads up. I picked up one of these at my local HD this weekend. I also have one from 6 or 7 years ago that I use regularly and really like.
To my untrained eye they appear identical in quality. Weight is basically identical. On my scale the new one is 145grams while my original one was 144 grams. The only difference I see is a piece of cast material that makes up the spare bit holder is not quite as polished as my original one. I don’t know if my original one is polished from use or a change in the MFG process. I’ll give it some use and post back if any differences become apprentice after time.
I work in an office where a light duty tool is helpful and have used this camping/hiking. Ive found the tools it has are the ones I use without being weighed down with unnecessary tools. It has replaced an original PST and later an SOG mutlitool.

I’ve noticed the same, and believe that the difference in the aluminum handle scale was done for cosmetic reasons. The scale on my original Skeletool is a little muted and doesn’t stand out as much, while the new one looks a little sparkly.

grabbed 1 today for $27 before they all sell out. Great feel to the whole tool. I thought the bits would be loose or something, but far from it. It has almost too simple of a locking mechanism, and the alternate bit is stored away very snug as well.
I do wish they included an adapter for regular bits, and I’m not sure yet if I’m going to miss a spring loaded plier (as on my Gerber Clutch), but neither thing I really can complain for @ $27.
Also picked up the M18 TrueView Lantern. I like it, but thought it was going to be a little bit brighter from review videos. Might return and wait for the $149 flood light that is currently unavailable from HD, or get the Ryobi flood for the same price as this

Then you add the bit kit and you are all set. I get the 42 piece bit kit with the extender. The Skeletool bits have a rectangular shaft. The extender allows you to use regular hex shank bits.
I will have to get several more of these so I can keep my various packs stocked – ski patrol, search, day hikes.

Scored two of these at HD last Friday, plenty at the HD in Westbury, NY. I had to hit up two HD’s to get them, they are going fast….At this price I could not resist, it’s an awesome back up to my vintage leatherman charge.
