I found a new Dewalt cordless vacuum deal at Lowe’s, and I must admit that this is one of the most puzzling Black Friday tool deals I’ve ever seen.
This kit, model DCV580C1, comes with the cordless vacuum, a compact charger, and a compact battery – either 1.3Ah or 1.5Ah based on the size and color.
The price is pretty good – $99 for all of this, given Lowe’s is selling the vacuum by itself for $159. According to Lowe’s product description, the promo kit also has a HEPA-rated wet/dry filter.

Assuming there are no gotchas and this is the same vacuum as the one Lowe’s is selling in tool-only format for $60 more, this is a pretty good bundle deal for a portable cordless hand vacuum.
Vacuums like this one aren’t very powerful, but they’re convenient, thanks to the built-in hose.
The puzzling part is the 1.3Ah or 1.5Ah battery, which isn’t going to power the vacuum for very long. That’s okay, the price point makes it forgivable. The included battery should power it long enough for quick cleanup tasks. Hopefully?
All things considered, this looks like a pretty good deal.
Price: $99
For eagle-eyed readers, there’s something shown in the above image from Lowe’s that’s not supposed to be there. Can you find the mistake?

What’s not supposed to be there is the 18V nicad battery plugged into the vac. I have had a different version of this vac for several years. It runs on an 18V nicad or 20V lithium battery, or uses its built-in cord for ac power. Not very powerful, but very handy for a quick cleanup!

You’ve got the DCV581H model, if it works on AC power, too. Right?
Looks like this one – model # DCV580C1 – works on 18V batteries only.
Shocked
Yes, I bought a DCV581H in early 2015 and am still using it. It quickly drains a ni-cad battery, so I’ve used it 99% of the time with the ac cord. Because I always carry an extension cord with it, I’ve never tested it with a lithium 20V battery. I’m a DYIer, so fighting with the cord is acceptable to me. The suction isn’t great, but it meets my needs.

@Vards is correct – this one does NOT have the AC power cord.
Yep – the 18V battery plugged into the side – which is NOT included – is the mistake.
This time of year, there are many (understandable) minor slipups by most brands and retailers.

The image shows a DCV581H 18v/20v vacuum.
Stuart
Close – it shows the DCV580, but with an 18V battery already inserted on the side. The 18V batteries aren’t made or sold anymore, and certainly aren’t included with this kit.

I just bought the Dewalt oscillating multitool kit from Lowe’s which I believe comes with the same battery. Lowe’s lists it as 1.5 mah. I was surprised to find that the battery has no charge level indicator on it. I thought that would have been standard on all of their batteries by now.

The 1.3 and 1.5 ah batteries are “value” models, for cheaper combo packs and introductory tools. They are the only batteries to exclude the battery indicator, and the only all black cases, to my knowledge.

Yeah, that battery might last a full minute in that thing… Very odd pick. But for under $100… I wonder if it has the same guts as the Dcv581H, cause it does pretty well on the job site.

Pass… Still waiting for a 20V Brushless version, with longer runtime and higher CFM.

I bought the corded version when it first came out. Used it for years and haven’t plugged the cord in once and it now sits idle as I prefer the Bosch cordless since I can hook up cordless sanders to it and it has more suction.

The vacuum form is the best. But we need a new modle that is exactly the same but update the horrible lack of power.
