A couple of readers have pointed out price changes at Lowe’s on ToughBuilt and Klein modular tool boxes. I have noticed the same.
Lowe’s raised the pricing on at least several ToughBuilt StackTech tool boxes, compared to their launch pricing just a few weeks and months ago.
Recently, they lowered the prices of select Klein ModBox tool boxes, with promotional language saying they’ll be on sale thru May 1st, 2024. According to my notes, the lower pricing went into effect back to December.

One reader (thank you Kenneth) mentioned that their local Lowe’s store applied discounts to Klein ModBox tool boxes in-store as well. I saw similar at my closest Lowe’s store, as well as online.
My Lowe’s store received the latest wave of new ToughBuilt StackTech products, but put them in the overhead shelving, way out of reach.
Klein has started launching ModBox-compatible tool and accessory kits. They’re available at independent sellers, but I haven’t spotted them at Lowe’s yet.
Meanwhile, it seems Lowe’s pushed Flex StackPack tool boxes and storage accessories completely out of stores. There’s no dedicated shelf space for them – I only found a couple of stragglers in overhead shelving, presumably where they’ll wait for either online orders or the next holiday promotional event.
At the time of this posting, here is how much it would cost to buy a “standard” 3pc tool box combo from each of Lowe’s premium tool box brands:
Flex Stack Pack

- Small tool box: $80
- Large tool box: $90
- Rolling tool box: $83.37 (on sale/clearance at my closest store), $139 regular price
Flex Total: $253.37 online for my zip code, $309 at full price
Klein ModBox
- Small tool box: $65
- Large tool box: $75
- Rolling tool box: $130
Klein Total: $270
ToughBuilt StackTech
- Small tool box: $75
- Large tool box: $90
- Rolling tool box: $135
ToughBuilt Total: $300
I ordered ToughBuilt StackTech crates before the end of the year, and they were $50 each before “buy more, save more” discount. They’re now $55 each.
I would swear that the new 3-drawer tool box launched at $149. It’s now $169.
Home Depot Systems Pricing

Interesting, my Lowes location is still at $139 both online and in store for the Flex rolling tool box. I would definitely be interested in it at the $83.37 price you mentioned in the article.

Some weird reason, like 15 months back Lowe’s had the Flex roller box for $22.
Stuart
They had a massive price-slashing clearance last year on Flex storage. I was told that wouldn’t be the case this year, and Stack Pack would be regularly available, but it seems Lowe’s had other plans.

Funny thing: two days ago I was at Lowe’s, not really looking for the toolboxes, but walking all around expecting to find them. I did not.

Somewhat related question: any word if Dewalt will offer a Rolling Toolbox with two or three drawers instead of an open-from-the-top-lid?
The one thing I hate about the rolling toolbox is I have to take everything OFF it to get into it. If I had one with two or three deep drawers, I could leave everything stacked on top, pull out tools when I need them, and easily move from place to place.

Between all of the companies making modular boxes, this has to be in the works at one of them, right? It doesn’t seem difficult to do. The only sacrifices I can think of would be maybe a little less box rigidity (which can be fixed with added support), and some cutouts at the end of the bottom drawer to accommodate the wheel wells.
Or instead of drawers, maybe they could make the entire front open like the packout cabinet?
Rich Shew
Ridgid has kind of done this in so much as their recently introduced three-drawer box can be arranged on the bottom attached to their wheel/collapsible handle. Since they have made the wheels just a little wider than the boxes, they don’t have to alter the drawers to suit the wheels.
Jimmie
That’s one of the reasons why I’ve been reluctant to buy into modular toolboxes. I don’t want to play Towers of Hanoi whenever I need to fetch something from one of the bottom boxes.
The new wide-drawer Dewalt boxes that Stuart posted about a few weeks ago are interesting. They might convince me to take the leap.
Stuart
It’s hard to say, but they’ve been putting a lot of energy into learning more about users’ modern tool storage needs and wants.
I know that Milwaukee is DEFINITELY working on this.
Daniel
ToughBuilt teased this, too, didn’t they?
Vards Uzvards
Coming Summer 2024, presumably.
Adam
‘Announced’ in 2024, released in 2025 with their track record
Stuart
Yes.

I’m probably going to buy into a Tanos/Festool MW 1000 Workstation because of that.
Johnez
SK has some neat offerings lately with drawers, even doors that open from the front.
Rob
Rigid is the only one with something* like this out yet. They recently released their 3 drawer box and since their wheels/handle are attachable you can make a stack with drawers on the bottom. You still have to buy the wheels/xl box combo to get the wheels however

Milwaukee’s 2 and 3 drawer Packout has been available for a long time. I used a friend’s setup last summer.
Shawn Brown
I think they mean a drawer box with the wheels and handle. I don’t believe Milwaukee has done this yet.
Kyle
Not as one unit, but they have the hand truck style Packout carrier that you can put the drawer units on.
Ryan Christopher Jacobs
They already have the 2 drawer tough stack2.0 box. I have had a few since last year. Worth every cent.
Peter
I was not paying too much attention to them a few days since they did have no sale signs on them.
I looked at them when they were on sale a month or so.
But the „sale“ was just a few bucks off so I did not jump on them.
Otherwise the Klein seems to be well build.
WhileI like the orange it screams a bit too much here I am.

What’s going on with Flex and Lowe’s? Will Flex continue to sell tools and toolboxes?
Dave
Take a look at ToughBuilts stock price. Oooof
John
After the 10 for 1 reserve split?
Dave
Been trending down for months.
JR Ramos
That was more like a 64:1 reverse split…! Or in that neighborhood…a bit out of the norm. That was not their first reverse split, either. Sometimes those work but most often people see it for what it usually is and the investors will run. Seems to be happening this time for TB as it did last summer as well. Hopefully they can right the ship and remain viable on some level.

On a related note, the Ridgid drawer box is now available at my Home Depot
Bobcat
I seen a card in a craftsman 2 drawer box and it had a 3 drawer and 1lg drawer which I would love to see come out now I won’t buy another rolling box system unless it’s all drawers I don’t get these companies who keep making these rolling box systems that you have to unstuck to get your tools I’m hoping dewalt comes out with a rolling drawer system
Matthew
Flex is on clearance at my Lowe’s. Three drawer under $100.

I think in-store merchandising lags what’s available online for some reason. You’d think managers would take the matter into their own hands.
Mnoswad
Finally saw the three drawer stack tech in person.
It seems to me the chamfered corners severely limit the potential width of the actual drawer box space. I dont understand the need for corner accessory rails.
I left disappointed. I’d been waiting to get into a stackable storage system untill I saw the drawers from toughbuilt. Now I’m aimless in my decision as to what brand to go with. I wanted the widest drawer available without being a Packout guy.
Frank D
It goes to show that availability is all over the place. I have not been to my local lowes in NNE since before the holidays. Stopped by one in FL, could not find Flex or Toughbuilt. Drove past ours in ME today, half the store front is reset in terms of customer service, online ordering holding space, very few checkouts – just self checkout really – and a whole short row of flex and a whole short row of toughbuilt! Finally. I am impressed with toughbuilt and could swap to them if there were some kind of incentive program, the parts storage was more akin to packout … and I could easily get a good amount of my money back on all my current gently used gear. But the parts storage seems extra deep, without slim options; which is what I have the most of.
Perry
I was really looking forward to the toughbuilt line until I picked up the drawer unit and felt how heavy it was. I’m sure it’s necessary to keep it strong, but by the time I add my tools to it I’m not going to want to lug it around from jobsite to jobsite each day.
So far, I’m sticking with my tstak/versastack because of availability and a size that’s easier to carry multiple boxes when locked together
Kelley
I’ve got the full Milwaukee packout kit plus much much more and I’d never switch.
