Makita XTR01T7 18V Brushless Router Kit

Makita’s XTR01T7 18V brushless compact cordless router kit is currently on sale over at Amazon.

With this kit, you get the 18V brushless router, a fixed base, a plunge-cutting base, an edge guide, (2) 5.0Ah batteries, a fast charger, and Makita tool box to hold it all.

Josh wrote in with the deal tip (thank you!):

$235.66 price on this full Makita router kit is incredible, but it is on a 1-4 week delivery from Amazon.

Toolnut sells the same kit for $379.99 for comparison.

A price comparison search shows that other Makita dealers have the same kit for $370 to $400.

~$236 definitely does seem like a great price for this kit! You could spend less on the bare tool if you already bought into Makita’s 18V lineup and only want or need the fixed base. But for what you get in the kit, this deal price can’t be beat.

We don’t know how long this pricing will last. Currently, the shipping ETA is 1 to 4 weeks, which usually means Amazon is waiting for a resupply. Supplies usually tend to be limited.

Update: Home Depot also has it for this price.

Don’t Need Cordless?

Makita’s corded router set is currently $139 and eligible for $25 off $100+ savings.

This is a great deal. Thanks for the heads up. The router is an extravagance for me since I don’t use one often. But I really need some new batteries anyway. So it’s an early Christmas gift for me. Thanks again.

    Nice find!

There are quite a few Makita accessories that fit this router:
195559-1 and 194733-8 dust collection hoods
    195561-4 tilt base
    195562-2 offset base
    STEX 122385 trimmer guide assembly

That seems like an extremely good deal, especially if you are invested or planning to get into the Makita 18v line. I’m assuming this is the cordless equivalent to the 1.25hp compact router – https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HAQMHEO. This is currently $115 on Amazon, so about half the price.

Yep, this is the cordless equivalent of the compact router, which is $114 after $25 off $100+ promo right now. Corded is almost always less expensive, but cordless does have a lot of advantages even in a workshop. It’s worth mentioning that a lot of Makita’s bases and accessories are cross-compatible between corded and cordless, at least according to their website.

Thanks for the confirmation. I’m definitely in the market for a compact combo router (fixed/plunge). However, since I do not use them often I’m torn over the cordless vs. corded option. I was always planning on going the corded route, especially since I’m invested in the Ridgid 18v platform and their cordless router does not have the option for a plunge base.

Of course this deal now has me second guessing that thought process. Just not sure if I want another battery system…

If you were planning on going the corded route, a good deal on cordless shouldn’t sway you too far. The psychology of a good deal can be powerful. But your initial reaction is correct – this cordless kit is double the price of the equivalent functionality in a corded tool.

If you don’t plan to use the tool very regularly, save money and go corded unless you really want cordless freedom.

I have access to cordless review samples, but for personal use, I have not yet purchased a cordless router, cordless jig saw, or cordless circular saw. I also bought air nailers for myself instead of battery-powered.

Also keep in mind that you can always buy a cordless version later on. For more involved projects, you just might want one tool with one style of bit and another with a different router bit. This way you can go back and forth without changing bit depth settings or what-not.

If you want me to push you in the direction of the cordless option, I can do that too. =)

The cordless does have the electronic speed control which should keep it spinning closer to the set speed under heavy load. Theoretically that will keep you bit spinning at optimal speed even if it hits denser wood.

They have the same difference in angle grinders. Some guys like it, some prefer the raw amps that corded can provide.

Stuart, appreciate the response and please don’t push me in the other direction :). I like that you are saving me money.

The only cordless tools I use a lot outside of a drill/driver are a OMT and the circular saw. Especially the circular saw, it is really nice to be able to do a few quick cuts outside.

I got one last year as part of a kit. And I find I reach for it more and more often. I keep a round over bit in it and use it for knocking off edges quick and easy.

Dang good price considering the two 5ah batteries and charger that comes with it. I placed an order, then decided I didn’t “really” need it, and cancelled it.

I’ll regret that decision in a few months I’m sure.

Just got this kit based on this alert. Nice little router package. Haven’t been able to put it through it’s paces yet but I can see it getting a lot of use in the shop.
