A long time ago, Metabo had an 18V Quick cordless drill kit, and I thought it was a great buy at $149. The current model, BS 18 L QUICK 2.0, has a better chuck (1/2″ vs. 3/8″), faster speeds, and a little more torque.

The drill also comes with Metabo’s “Quick” interface. The drill chuck can be removed to reveal a 1/4″ hex screwdriver chuck. AND, it also comes with a right angle attachment.

Acme Tools recently had the drill kit priced at $69 (thank you, Luke!), but they sold out before I could post about it. Other retailers seem to have this kit at $99 and without any free bonuses.
This is incredibly aggressive pricing by Metabo, and it doesn’t look like they cut corners anywhere – this is their standard 18V Quick 2.0 cordless drill, with standard battery size and 18V charger.
No, it’s not brushless, but the quick chuck and right angle attachment make a compelling argument in favor of this kit, not to mention its compact size and respectable performance specs.
$89 shipped for the drill kit and bonus Bluetooth radio seems to be a fantastic deal.

I find myself trying to think of any friends or family members who might be needing a new or first-time cordless drill. The deal seems too good to pass up!

The only catch is Metabo. Not that they are bad, but if you’re buying into a battery line, that one is somewhat niche.
For the person who just owns a drill (and now a radio)? Great purchase.
P.s. Deals like these are how I ended up with ~9 different battery platforms. It’s a slippery slope.
Also, even though I know Metabo and Metabo HPT are different things, I still thought for a moment “Hmm, new color scheme for Metabo HPT?” They really shouldn’t share a name.

Actually in the EU the Metabo battery platform is shared by a bunch of different tool makers – look up the CAS platform. And Metabo has been making a push into woodworking tools.

I’m tempted because it’s a rare 18V driver (without the drill chuck), but my 12V Flexi-click has been good enough for me – and I don’t expect I’d buy any other Metabo tools.
I’d really like the Makita DDF083Z LXT brushless driver since I already have other LXT tools, but since it’s NAINA, it’s a little too pricey for a tool I don’t need ($165 tool only on eBay).
The only other 18V driver I can think of is the somewhat similar Bosch 18V Flexi-click, which is nicer (e.g. brushless , offset attachment, SDS attachment), but it’s even more expensive ($249 for the kit).

But given what Ryboi’s been doing (e.g. 18V small multi-material saws, while most others are 12V), I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Ryobi 18V driver or multi-head tool like this.

I thought the (old forest green) “Metabo brand” is “now “ (electric green) Metabo HPT brand, this is a great deal. Are these batteries interchangeable w/ Metabo HPT cordless 18v tools, if this promo is still available “today” am I purchasing a “dead” battery platform?

I do not think you are buying into a “dead” battery platform but metabo USA is mainly focused afaik on the professional especially on the metal and concrete businesses.

Metabo is not compatible with Metabo HPT. Nothing wrong with Metabo – but keep this in mind when buying into this platform. So no, these batteries don’t fit HPT tools.

Metabo 18V is very much an active brand with plenty of products and ongoing developments. No worries about it being a defunct brand or platform.

Hitachi-Koki bought Metabo. KKR bought Hitachi-Koki from Hitachi. KKR did not want to license the Hitachi name. In their ifinite wisdom, instead of just calling it Koki; KKR renamed Hitach-Koki to HiKoki everywhere but in the USA where they renamed it Metabo HPT while also continuing to simultaneously distribute and sell Metabo. Is that the stupidest thing you ever heard? I agree. If it makes you feel any better, Chervon is doing the same thing with Flex right now; selling what would have been Kobalt tools as Flex while there already is a Flex that they are simultaneously distributing and selling.

^ thank you, I remember the acquisitions, I remember the Metabo HPT announcement. I did not realize that name Hitachi was not be licensed so confusing name comes about; great to see the “old” Metabo is still available (my grinder & hammer drill are almost 20 years old and still going strong).

So I’m curious; if you purchase 2 of these, you only get one radio? I was going to purchase 2 of the drills at once but only one radio showed up in my cart. This was a few days ago so perhaps it was a glitch?
