Metabo HPT 18V 4-Tool Cordless Combo Kit KC18DDX4SM

A reader wrote in about an excellent Holiday 2022 deal on a Metabo HPT 18V SubCompact 4-tool cordless power tool combo kit.

The kit comes with a cordless drill, impact driver, one-handed reciprocating saw, and oscillating multi-tool, plus batteries, charger, and tool bag.

I’m looking at this combo for the last couple days, and more I look more I feel that this is a VERY GOOD deal for the money.

Three of these tools went for $179 a year-and-a-half ago, and it was a very good deal back then.

Now you have three brushless tools, three of the tools are compact/subcompact, and this is the first time you get two 2 Ah Metabo HPT batteries with charge indicators.

Subcompact brushless drill and driver – I’d say, $120 for this pair, with these new batteries and a charger – would be a fantastic price.

The compact (not brushless though) reciprocating saw – I have never seen it for less than $85. This leaves $44 for a brushless OMT. If I would not have an equivalent collection of tools already, I would definitely go for this set.

I wholeheartedly agree! Metabo HPT’s superb best-of-Black Friday drill and Triple Hammer impact driver kit is also still ongoing ($129 at Amazon), and it might have distracted me from the SubCompact line.

All of the tools feature brushless motors. Following are quick highlights for reach:

Cordless Drill: 485 in-lbs max torque, 1700 RPM, weighs 1.9 lbs.

Impact Driver: 1240 in-lbs max torque, weighs 1.8 lbs, 3200 RPM.

Reciprocating Saw: 2100 SPM, 121 cuts per charge, weighs 2.9 lbs, accepts reciprocating or jigsaw blades.

Oscillating Multi-Tool: variable speed, 20K max OPM, weighs 3 pounds, tool-free blade change.

And… what’s that about the batteries having a built-in fuel gauge?

A scan of my inbox shows that I missed a bit of important news in October!!

The DDXS series featuring the same compact tools, but now with better 2.0Ah batteries that feature battery charge indicators and add 30% more runtime compared to the initial DDX series.

Ah, so the batteries are 2Ah compared to 1.5Ah, and have built-in fuel gauges.

Seems like a great deal!

What do you guys think? Can you find a better deal for the money?

Price: $249

Buy it at Amazon
Buy it at Acme Tools
Buy it at Lowe’s

Thank you to Vards for the heads-up!

For myself, I’m not looking for combo sets with OMT’s. The deal just doesn’t look that overwhelming to me. If you need all the tools, the battery upgrade might make it a worthy deal. All the tools are backwards compatible with the 36volt batteries also.

Meh. I was expecting a sub $189 price tag for this. If they had a circular saw and Recip Saw, or their top of the line drill/impact, then maybe.

The triple hammer and drill combo is more compelling— I already have three omts and a mini recip that I barely use.

Always glad to see the hitachi power tool line continuing.

You wrote “All tools feature brushless motors”. I can’t find any mention of the one handed reciprocating saw being brushless.
One of the benefits of corded tools was being able to pick any tool in any catagory that is best for you. Bosch Jigsaw and SDS drill, Makita Circular Saw, Milwaukee Hole Hawg, Dewalt Table Saw etc. There are certain tools from each brand that I like, but I don’t want to carry multiple chargers and batteries. I haven’t tried using battery adapters, but I think it would throw off the ergonomics that engineers designed for optimal balance.
If money wasn’t an issue, I’d get some Metabo tools. Not this, though I’d like to try them. It would be the table saw with the 120 adapter, and the miter saw. This is something that might be fine with battery adapters because it’s not a hand held tool. Don’t know where the customer base is. I know they make a lot of tools, but it’s hard to see why one wouldn’t get Dewalt or Milwaukee or even Ryobi.
I used to take care of a Blues Guitarist named Hubert Sumlin, guitarist for Howling Wolf and Muddy Waters. Many guitar playing fans would ask him which guitars and amps got him his unique sound. I heard him pick up and play a variety of guitars over the years. Some very good ones, some decent and some cheap ones. The sounds coming out of all of them were his unique tone. He liked trying out different guitars and had some favorites but didn’t get hung up on brands and types, like so many of his fans. They thought it was the equipment, but he said, it’s what’s inside you. Everything else is just a tool.

Stuart states in the text that the recip saw is not brushless.

“All of the tools feature brushless motors”……
Vards, mentioned that it’s not brushless. They are both in the text!

I took advantage of a similar deal. I’ve kinda been wanting some new batteries. And I’ve been keeping my eye out on MetaboHPT’s subcompact impact driver and drill. So when Lowes offered the pair for $129.99, with new 2 ah batteries, I bought the kit. I’ve been using them for interior work where the triple hammer was overkill, and they are hitting that sweet spot, as expected. Potentially, I could have gotten more bang for the buck, by buying Skils five piece, 12 volt package deal. At the time there was no price difference & I was tempted. But I wanted to get those new MetaboHPT batteries.

This is a pretty good set. I think Metabo HPT delivers good value. I like the subcompacts, but will pass on this one. This recip saw is tempting, as it takes jigsaw blades. I already have 12v tools (Bosch) that fill this need. If I need more, I’ll bring out the triple hammer.

covered by lifetime lithium ion tool warranty…

…and two-year lithium ion battery warranty

KC18DDX4S kit feature powerful brushless motor technology…

    …in some of the tools

It’s a shame they hide this sleazy stuff behind the metabo name. Maybe just a cultural difference, but it makes the other specs difficult to trust.

Quick update that Lowes has a “buy Metabo HPT MV 4ah battery” and get a free gift promotion going on. You can choose between the 7 1/4″ MV circ saw, 7 1/4″ MV rear handled saw, and recip saw.

They also have the Metabo HPT 23 gauge pin nailer for $99 (tool only). Even though I have their excellent pneumatic pin nailer.

Really, really tempted on both of these.
