Best Black Friday Cordless Router Deal I’ve Ever Seen

Metabo HPT Cordless Router Used on Wood Boards Outdoors

Acme Tools has a new deal on the Metabo HPT MultiVolt cordless 2 HP router, and in no uncertain terms this is the best Black Friday router deal I’ve ever seen.

Just to be clear, this is a full-size brushless router with 1/4″ and 1/2″ collets. Yep – it can be used with larger router bits; this is a full-size router and not a compact trim router.

Metabo HPT MultiVolt Router Deals Comparison

At the time of this posting, the router kit is $419, and eligible for a $40 “buy more, save more” coupon discount, bringing the price down to $379.

However, the tool-only is $149 right now, marked down from $249, and it’s eligible for added $10 off savings.

That brings the tool-only price down to $139.

Do you see how in the comparative screen capture it says “free starter kit?” Yes, you also get a free starter kit, with charger and MultiVolt battery (4Ah 36V, 8Ah 18V equivalent).

Metabo HPT Cordless Router with MultiVolt Starter Kit Deal

So, you get a full-size brushless router, a battery, and a charger, for $139, compared to $379 for a kit with a 2.5Ah/5Ah battery, charger, and kit bag.

The kit and tool-only are both advertised as shipping with a tool bag, 1/4″ and 1/2″ collets, collet wrench, template guide set, straight guide, and dust collection accessories.

I don’t see the catch, but I did notice that the tool-only and free starter kit comes with a higher capacity battery (4Ah/8Ah vs 2.5Ah/5Ah).

Note: Metabo HPT MultiVolt batteries can be used with their 36V and 18V tools, hence the dual charge capacity ratings.

$139 after coupon. Ground shipping is $6.49, unless you bring your order total above $199.

Buy it at Acme Tools
Buy it at Lowe’s

Lowe’s has a different deal – buy the starter kit for $199, get the router for free. While ordinarily that would be a great deal compared to the $379 after-coupon price for the kit, Acme Tools’ deal saves you an additional $60, or $53.31 if you take into account the shipping fee.

It’s not clear how long the stacking discounts and promos will last. As far as I can tell, there are 3 different promos all stacking together – the initial discount on the tool-only, free starter kit with purchase, and buy more, save more coupon savings.

You tell me – an I exaggerating about how this is the best Black Friday woodworking router deal?

Stuart – Whoa!! I’m not even in the market specifically for a plunge router but lacking one and knowing I will put it to good use when the times come, this was just too good of a deal to pass up. Just snagged from Acme, thank you!

I do not really need (another) plunge router in addition to my Bosch kit but I just ordered this because I also have the circular saw and recip saw. Having a third battery cant hurt, and this is just too good of a deal!

I bought this router back in 2022. It is by no means my go to router as I have other corded and cordless ones to choose from. I bought the AC adapter too – and think it was a waste of the $100 I paid for it. IMO it makes the router even more top-heavy and unwieldy. When working on furniture projects I often use multiple routers with different bits and/or set at different cut depths – to speed things along. I thought that this router with the AC adapter would work in that role – but it did not pass muster for me. I guess if this is your only router the idea of AC backup for a dead battery or long operating time – sounds good – but it’s not for me.

The router itself works well on battery – and it can handle larger bits and cuts than my Makita XTR01T7 – so it often gets taken out when I’m working on outdoor projects.

I need another router (I already have 5 others) as much as I need a hole in my head. But this is tempting. Especially with the extra MV battery. I would only use this cordless. I like those MV batteries for both the MV tools and as an 8ah battery in my 18v tools.

Fred – your comment confirms my suspicion that the corded adapter is an amazing concept, but a bit unwieldy in practice. I thought the in-line DC inverter brick and the weight of the cord in the battery well throws the balance off.

          The Router is a beast
We have one for jobsite and one for shop, it gets used almost every day
The AC adapter is great for grinders, SDS Max rotary hammers, table saw, portable band saw and some others
For the router only if u set it up at a stationary table but having the option is always a plus and saves on battery longevity

The idea behind the AC adapter would be when setting up a router table and having the unit fixed in place. Therefore lessening the wear cycles on the batteries… The beauty is a full size CORDLESS router that eliminates snags and issues related as such

Acme has the DeWalt DCW620 on sale for $299 with a “free” 8Ah DCB2108 PowerPack battery. Last week it was eligible with a coupon to get it down to $249. So I’d keep an eye on this as Acme likes to do various flash sales this time of year.

$157.13 including tax and shipping. Damn, I wasn’t thinking about another router. Have the m18 trim router(free with purchase of two batteries and charger) and corded Porter Cable, but this is too good a deal to pass. Now to find a base that will fit my Milwaukee tracks and finally rationalize buying the TSO parallel guides.
Stuart, you’ve just cost me almost $400 when I’m kitted up.
Guess this is my Birthday present come Dec. 7.

Metabo HPT plunge router w/battery and charger $157

Valid choice. DeWalt does make very good routers, and you still got a good deal with the 8ah battery. I have both Metabo HPT and DeWalt and consider them to be equivalent in quality.

I think the Dewalt DCW620B is likely equivalent to this Metabo-HPT – but I find the DCW600B is more a trim router capable of light to medium duty tasks. I’ve used it and similarly sized Makita’s and Milwaukee’s – all great as compact routers go. This Metabo-HPT is more robust and can spin larger rounding over bits to trim landscape lumber in a single pass – something my Makita cordless can’t do. I would hope the bigger Dewalt can do the same – but Lowes is asking $299 for the bare tool:

BigRichard’s post (above) says you get a free 8Ah battery with it at Acme for the same $299 and that there had been (last week) an extra $50 off – still not as inexpensive as the Metabo-HPT – but a good deal if you want to stay with Dewalt only

My thoughts exactly, the Metabo HPT is definitely the better deal, but for the DeWalt user that DCW620 deal is the best I have seen since it launched earlier this year.

Even at the current $299 it is solid, but again I suspect acme will run a few more flash sales throughout the holiday season, so keep an eye out for those additional sales.

Stuart – enjoy your articles and heads ups on tool deals. Not sure if you want folks to give you heads up on deals so you are aware of them.

Home Depot has a deal for anyone interested in a Dewalt 1/2″ impact wrench. HD has a Special Buy kit that includes their Atomic 20v Max impact and it comes with a 5AH battery, a charger and a bag for $169. This is $400+ worth of stuff. This kit seems to be flying under the radar. They are available in-store and for Delivery.

This router is only rated at 2 hp.

The tools and stuff video seems to suggest the Makita XGT 2.25 is significantly more powerful than this one, while the Milwaukee with separate plunge base is well behind the Metabo. Not sure about Dewalt, it is rated at 2.25

The Makita is maybe only available as a bare tool for $350, no promos.

The Milwaukee is $470 bare tool with fixed and plunge base.

The Dewalt is $300 with a free battery, no charger.

If I were starting a carpentry tool collection, these acme prices seem really attractive:

Drill & Impact driver kit (basic, but solid): KC18DEX = $80

Circ saw – rear handle or sidewinder: 3607dwa or 3607db kit = $160-$170

Recip saw – the 36v is a beast, apparently only slightly outdone by the GRJ02, which is $425 as a kit. The GRJ01 is offered in their $1000 4 tool kit and as a free tool via rebate, but is inferior to the Metabo, as it has no anti vibration or orbital.
Depending on your preference, I might start with the 18v CR18DMA kit with 2 compact batts/charger for $140. I prefer the 2.5/5.0 batts in it though.

The new OMT, CV18DA is great so far for $100

The above items give you a high performance 5 tool set with 4 compact batteries and 2 x 4/8 ah batteries, 2 slow and 2 rapid chargers for $480-$510.

Adding some of the other charger+4/8 battery promos even for occasional or eventual use might be worth it just for the batteries:

Plunge router, pretty compelling at this price
SDS+ rotary hammer is not the most powerful, but great for smaller tapcons, etc.: $235
Belt sander, once again outdone by the new XGT according to Tools and stuff, but it’s only available on Ebay for $400 bare tool. Metabo at Acme, and remember it’s a kit… $110.

The trim router, M1808DA, is a great tool. It has a plastic base vs the Makita which doesn’t seem to matter much. The great thing about this tool is that it fits all the Makita trim router (cordless and corded) bases and attachments. Acme’s price: $80 with a free compact battery.

Can anybody compete with the value here?

They have other kit promos which are great tools, but not quite the same reductions. Things like the cordless grinders and the air compressor.

They do have the corded grinder kit for $26.

The cordless nailers are also great values compared to the competition, even at their current modest discounts.

If you want a top flight impact driver, the WH18DC kit is $130.
Probably the same as other Black Friday deals, but beats the competition on value I would think. I like the 18V impact drivers for compact battery use, and the small power penalty vs 36v is worth it to me. I think it’s being packaged with pneumatic nailers too.

The newest hammer drill, dv18dc, was just released and is still pretty pricey. The little subcompact drill is great, but I haven’t really used the mini impact driver.

They have a pretty full line cordless line I think: track saw, many vacs, great impact wrenches, mini blower, jigsaws, compact and metal circ saws, nibbler, etc. I’m not really into cordless table and miter saws, but they have them too.

They have some new tools overseas that will hopefully make it over here. Things like OPE – blower, string trimmer/brush cutter, hedge trimmer, chainsaw. Also grease gun, removeable base flush cut circ saw, etc.

I think the hydraulic impact has been out for a while overseas, but not here though.

They have tabless batteries overseas as well, but I don’t think they’ve offered anything over 4/8 ah, nor any 5×21700 packs.

They might not have quite the performance and quality of the top Makita, nor the breadth of Makita, Dewalt or Milwaukee especially (no specialty plumbing, electrical, concrete, etc.). The multi volt system and the value for their performance, ergos, and quality really set them apart.

You’re absolutely right on the value. I built a deck last year. I previously had all corded tools. I bought:

      MultiVolt 7 1/4 saw
      MultiVolt 1/2 impact
      18v Triple Hammer impact driver
      18v Brushless Drill kit
      18v 23 gauge pinner
      18v recip saw
      18v single bevel miter saw,
18v single handed recip saw (hackzall style)
      18v blower,
      18v caulk gun.

I essentially got a free battery (either MV or 18v) with each of them due to promos. I think all of this is just over $1000 all-in. You can’t touch Metabo HPT for the value they offer. I’ve found their tools to be just as good as the 20v Max DeWalt XR tools that I have.

Buying for value in cordless is (to me), the name of the game. The batteries die, you can end up on orphaned battery tech, and players can change. I’m really happy I went with HPT on this setup.

The free starter kit portion of this deal appears to be dead – at least it is for me at 2PM PST on Nov 8 2024. When I click on Stuart’s link, it shows the $10 off “buy more save more” promotion on the item page, but the free battery/starter kit promotion is no longer visible.

I also tried using a different path in ACME’s website to see if that made a difference, but it didn’t fix it for me (I’ve seen listings where how you browsed to the item page affected whether an individual promotion was visible on ACME’s website). For what it’s worth, specifically I used the following path from the top-level menu: deals/free battery deals/ filter for brand = Metabo HPT.

This reminds me of why I really don’t like how ACME implements these free battery/kit/item promotions on their website. You have to add the eligible item to your cart, then the free item is supposed to be automatically added to your cart by the website. Except – sometimes it doesn’t add it for you and there’s nothing you can do as a customer to fix the problem if it’s after business hours. I missed out on the DeWalt 2HP router + free 8Ah power stack + $50 buy more save more stacked deal a few days ago because of this issue. Both promotions were showing on the item page when I added the router to my cart, but the free battery never appeared in my cart. I didn’t want to deal with the headache of trying to get them to honor the promotion over the phone with a screenshot, so I passed on it. Home Depot’s implementation is superior in the sense that the customer is able to click on a link for the promotion and add the free item(s) to their cart themselves (with the downside that customers might potentially fail/forget to add free items to their order that they would otherwise be eligible for).

Sometimes deals aren’t supposed to stack, and they’ll remove free gift items from a cart.
