Over at HD, they have a Milwaukee 15pc Hole Dozer bi-metal hole saw set on sale for $40.
The set (49-22-4027) comes with 8 hole saw sizes, 2 arbors, 4 pilot drills, and a hex key. Sizes: 3/4 in., 7/8 in., 1-1/8 in., 1-1/2 in., 2 in., 2-1/8 in., 2-1/4 in., 2-1/2 in.

It seems kind of lame that the hex key is considered a “piece” of the kit, but 8 hole saws, 2 arbors, and 4 pilot bits for $40 seems like a very good price. And I do like that it comes with plenty of pilot drill bits. I remember a few years ago when I bought a new Ridgid hole saw set and I broke a pilot bit with the first use.
As an aside, I bought my first Milwaukee hole saw set nearly 10 years ago, during an Amazon Friday or weekend tool deal. That’s a 17pc set with 12 hole saw sizes, 2 arbors, and 3 extra pilot bits. It actually had 5 pilot bits, but 2 were considered parts of the included arbors.
That Milwaukee set was also my motivation to upgrade to a 1/2″ cordless drill from my 3/8″ drill.
Most of those hole saws are still going strong, at least the sizes I rarely use, but the hole saws in this new Milwaukee set look to be an upgrade, with their easy plug removal slots.
The case is the same one as used in a larger Milwaukee hole saw set, so there’s room for other sizes.

I stopped in at Home Depot on Saturday to pick up some on-sale batteries, and snapped a photo of the display. I didn’t pick up a set on the spot because my son was being a little restless.
It wasn’t until I looked over the image later until I noticed something – a Made in the USA label. It looks to have with “global materials” fine print, but I can’t tell for sure. Either way, it’s an extra plus.
I don’t know when I’ll have a chance to head to my local Home Depot, so I’ll probably order my set online. Looking at my cart right now, it says that the set ships for FREE, with no mention of the usual $45 limit. I’ll give that a try later when I can grab my credit card. If it’s true, SWEET!
I don’t even think it’ll be worth heading to the local Home Depot – the closest store reports having 1 in stock, and the next closest store says they have 2. Yeah, I’ll save the trip and order online.
Price: $40
There is also a Lenox 13pc hole saw set on sale at Lowes, with 9 hole saws, 2 arbors, and 2 pilot drills, for $50. Thanks to Josh for the reminder!
Josh
How does this holesaw set compare to the Lenox one that was on sale for $50 over at Lowe’s?
Stuart
The Lenox set has 1 extra hole saw, and there are 3 size differences between the 2 sets. The Lenox has 2 sizes the Milwaukee set doesn’t have, and the Milwaukee set has 1 size the Lenox set doesn’t have.
Lenox Set: 1-3/8-in, 1-3/4-in
Milwaukee Set: 2-1/8 in
Other than that, the Milwaukee set also comes with 2 extra pilot drills.

I bought this kit at this price about 2 years ago, havent had much use for it yet but it looks like they run it each year.
Noah
I’d been meaning to do the comparison. I think I’ll be picking up that Lenox kit.
Nathan
between the 2 I think I’d take the lenox set over the milwaukee. I guess only because I’ve used lenox blades and the like and never had an issue with them. Not that I think the milwaukee kit is bad either.
Dan
This set was available from HD on Black Friday last year, too. I didn’t really need it, so didn’t bother buying one. But, a few weeks later (or maybe early in January?) the price dropped to $32, and I couldn’t resist picking it up. I’ve used a few of the saws since and am glad I grabbed it.

ToolUp has a 28 piece kit for $122 – might be worth a look:
http://www.toolup.com/Milwaukee-49-22-4185-28-Piece-All-Purpose-Professional-Ice-Hardened-Hole-Saw-Kit
fred
Forgot to mention that Toolup has some deal to also bundle in a free 6509-31 Sawzall or a 2520-21XC M12 Hackzall kit via a Milwaukee online rebate
Stuart
Hmm, I might just buy that set too or instead.
I tend to use larger sizes, and this has ’em, plus storage in the same box.
Plus $100+ gets a free recip saw, $200+ gets a free M12 Fuel Hackzall kit. Whoa.
But there’s also one for $10 more that comes with a Yeti cup: http://www.toolup.com/Milwaukee-49-22-4185-28-Piece-All-Purpose-Professional-Ice-Hardened-Hole-Saw-Kit-with-FREE-Yeti-YRA
Is that one not eligible for the free tools?
fred
BTW – while hole saws have their place – from a productivity standpoint we always went with selfeed bits for wood boring – unless there was a potential for hitting a nail or other embedded hunk (a technical term that covers lots of potential objects) of steel
Tim
I’ll also add that if you look at the redemption site linked from toolup, this looks like it’s applicable to several retailers, not just Toolup. Home Depot, ACME, CPO, etc. also seem to qualify… and recipro blades qualify too.
Adam
How is the Yeti tumbler free, when the set costs $10 more? seems misleading.
I bought 4 of the kits from the post topic (and a couple on-sale sawzall blade sets to get over $200), and resold several on CL to get myself a free Fuel Sawzall. worked out quite nice

My local Menards had the Porter Cable individual ones on sale for $1 to $2 each with arbors, if I remember right there where about 8 sizes, I bought each. Now they have them on clearance for $5 each! They are definitely not the best I’ve ever used but I can tolerate them for that money!
Damian
Home depot also has a Diablo set. I bought the Diablo set over Milwaukee. Same price. $39.88 “Special But.” Just tried to look it up online.. Can’t find it? Although I found it on the app for local home depot’s.

Any opinion on this set? I chose this one over Milwaukee for the depth and this set seemed more heavy duty.
Stuart
With the Diablo you get fewer hole saws, but the arbor intrigued me. I’ve got a test unit ready to go as soon as I can beat this cough.
fred
Is the Diablo arbor anything like the Bosch:

Matt
The Diablo push fit connection is actually pretty convenient. I am a big fan
Michael
I have the Lenox set. Home Depot is 100 +miles away. Lowe’s 1/4. Not sure if I saw the two side by side which I would choose
Travis Collins
Keep an eye out through December. I picked up last years kit for $20 on clearance.

I’ve had a few of these sets in my past job. They hold up reasonably well in day to day use with wood, mild steel, aluminum, etc. Not sure if they’d do too well with anything very hard like stainless steel, but overall they produce acceptable holes with acceptable tearout.
Jay
If you need those sizes that’s a kick’n deal. My main useage is boring doors for locksets. For that purpose I prefer forstner bits for all save and except for the 2-1/8″ bore where I use a hole saw. Other than that the only hole saws I really need are 4″ and 6″ for single handle faucet installs. Nice kit but not really all that great for what I do.
Jon
Same kit was on sale this time last year. I bought it and then a week or two later it was $10 cheaper on HD’s website. So I bought it again and returned the original one that I had bought.
Keep an eye out online for sales on items that didn’t sell through during the Black Friday rush.
Andrew
Got mine today and absolutely love it. Drilled two test holes and immediately noticed a dramatic improvement from the old, cheap Craftsman set I bought two years ago as part of a Craftsman Club promotion. As a test, I drilled one hole with the Milwaukee then set up the same size Craftsman. It didn’t take long to just stop and chuck the Craftsman in the trash tool pile.
