Milwaukee M12 Cordless Rotary Tool 2460-21

Milwaukee tools, in their neverending mission to expand their hugely popular M12 compact cordless power tool lineup, is coming out with a new rotary tool. They ambitiously describe the 2460-21 as a new breed of rotary tool intended for use by maintenance contractors, electricians, plumbers, remodelers and other tradesmen.

The new M12 rotary tool features an adjustable variable-speed 5k-32k RPM motor and is compatible with 1/32″-1/8″ shank bits and accessories. Milwaukee will be bundling the rotary tool with their new RedLithium Li-ion battery technology.

Some of Milwaukee’s recent cordless tool additions, such as the M12 heated jacket, M12 cordless hammer drill, and M12 palm nailer, were the firsts of their kind. This rotary tool, on the other hand, will face strong competition from the market-leading Dremel cordless 8200. It will definitely be interesting to see how the two tools compare once the M12 version is released this April.

I now own in the M12 tool line up the driver drill, hackzall, multi function tool, right angle drill/driver!
Also I have upgraded all batteries up to the M-12 Xc.

These tools have made my efficiency more productive and cost effective by applying less weight, compact and duty worthy. These tools are as competative as the big boys and I will continue to purchase the M-12 line even with the current economic down turn.
Bottom line I recommend highly the tools I currently have.

Great! I emailed them and suggested this about a year ago. Never got a response, but it had to be in the design stage around that time. Going on the wish list.

The M12 lineup is proving to be quite versatile, and I have to say, I am also impressed with Milwaukee’s drive to constantly expand and improve their tools and battery tech.

Seems like a no brainer to get an extra red litium battery. Being competitively priced against dremel makes it a bit easier.

I got one a few months ago. LOTS of torque, built well. State of charge indicator is a nice touch. If you stall it, it stops and the charge lights flash, but you can restart immediately (this probably saves the motor and battery from overheating). It has almost completely replaced my corded rotary tool and I use it on a daily basis.

I picked up a kit for $59 in-store at HD, the price is lower than their black friday price.

Just bought the 2640-21 kit at Home Depot Cleveland Heights OH expected to pay 99.95 … rang up as 59.95 GREAT PRICE … Tool itself is VERY impressive … nothing like the toy-like feel of the Dremels I own … WOW …. probably a dated sale so please if you’re looking go get one or get a raincheck! HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!

Just Purchased the M12 Rotary tool online, (TOOL ONLY), and Purchased the M12 Red Lithium XC 6.0 Battery from Home Depot and I used it for 2 Minutes and Change and 4 Red Lights Flash and it refuses to turn on?

I checked the user manual online and it says:

To signal the end of charge, all lights on the fuel gauge will flash quickly for 2-3 seconds and the tool will not run. Charge the battery pack.

If you didn’t charge the battery before use, it might be depleted. If it was fully charged, the battery could be defective. If you have another M12 battery you can try, does the tool work?

If you’re considering this tool, you might check out the reviews on Milwaukee’s website. 27 out of 63 reviewers give it one star, some very recently. Apparently there’s some kind of problem with the speed control that causes it to run only at one speed, or die entirely.
