For $79 the cordless multi-tool kit sounds like a bargain. It would be even better if the tool was really any good. It may b OK for light-duty but the ones we got for “free” back in 2010 as part of a promotion were not worth the space they took up. To be fair – we were used to using Fein Multimasters and Super Cuts – so this wimpy M12 tool seemed quite poor. But I’d advise : “don’t expect too much”

It was my first multitool years ago. I wasn’t too impressed and figured multitools were for niche purposes. Sometime later I got an 18v tool and it’s way more effective. I now know what I was missing, initially.
M12 works great for small sanding tasks where you might normally reach for a scrap of sandpaper, e.g. breaking edges after a cut. It’s also perfectly fine for small drywall jobs, like the odd old work outlet box.
I’d say steer clear if you already have an 18v multitool. You’re going to be disappointed if you think this is smaller, lighter, and equally capable.

I used to have the M12 multi-tool until it finally died. I miss it. The M18 is much nicer and has more power of course but it’s heavy and huge! The M12 is great for smaller jobs or tighter jobs. Same with the rotary tool. Not the greatest but the so often the perfect size and tool for so many little jobs.

Honestly am hoping this indicates that an M12 Fuel multi-tool is around the corner and Milwaukee is clearing out stock.

They had this sale last year. And then had hopes of a Fuel multi-tool at NPS this year, but no. This year HD had the M18 bundle at a great price, and while I’d love to think it’s them clearing stock, some of those tools are not highly stocked to begin with, such as the rotary tool or RA impact.
I’m more inclined to agree they are just moving older stock so nothing is too old

Seems like the format of the ToolNut offers are basically get the Kit (1×1.5ah battery+charger) for the usual price of the bare tool. Probably most appealing to those just getting into the M12 line vs those who may already have a small stock of 1.5-2ah packs and chargers from other sets and promos.
I have to echo praise I saw somewhere for that screwdriver. It’s great for around the house and small or slightly delicate assembly work precisely because it isn’t the most powerful and so is less apt to strip out screws or drive too deep. Good compliment to the impact drivers.

I got the screwdriver a couple weeks ago when it was part of a HD SBOTD (thankfully no buyer’s remorse – fantastic deal for screwdriver, 3/8 ratchet, battery and charger for $99).
My quick review:
It’s the size of the non-fuel m12 impact. It has one gear that’s geared between the high and low gears of the drills, sort of medium speed, medium torque.
In terms of capabilities, it just barely sunk a 3″ self drilling deck screw into 2x material. It did noticeably better with a 4ah battery, but this is not the tool for deck building (duh). It’s great for smaller fasteners and especially anything pre-drilled.
If you want something smaller than the m12 drills and the impact doesn’t quite fit your needs, consider this screwdriver.

Is the right angle impact any good for automotive work? Looks to have considerably more torque than the ratchet and with these sales it’s cheaper too.
I’m wondering if the ratcheting part of the ratchet makes it a better choice though (even though you’re not supposed to be doing it manually).

you can use the ratchet manually and I would pick it over the impact driver.
Not that I don’t use an impact driver on some car work, I do. but if you are picking one for mainly automotive purposes you will probalby use that ratchet more. but I think it costs more since it’s not on as much sale.
Provided you aren’t using it to bust nuts that are over the ansi spec standard. IE using the 3/8th with a 19mm socket and trying to pull loose a suspension knuckle. You shouldn’t have an issue with it
but aside from that the impact driver is good for lots of other things – mostly construction and woodwork – but I admit I use it to take off intake manifolds and other bits too.

The installation driver is designed for this – and if you buy it with free battery at HD you can’t return the battery and effectively get a discount.

How is the rotary tool? The only cordless on I had was the Dremel Stylus that had great ergonomics but was just way underpowered.

It doesn’t seem underpowered at all to me – but it isn’t the easiest in the world to hold. You might want to handle one at HD first.

I have everything shown here except the right angle impact (but I have 5 or 6 old M-12 non-Fuel impacts of various generations and while each generation is more powerful than its predecessor, they’re all weaker than my Fuel impacts).
The rotary tool is fine. I mainly use mine for cutting of crimps on hydraulic lines and some light smoothing and grinding. It will do that.
The multi tool is weak. I find very few uses for it.
The caulking gun is fantastic and quite possibly my favorite cordless tool of all time.
The right angle drill is certainly weaker than my fuel drills but is great in a tight space.
My experiences:
Other than the caulking gun, (which is a low-power used and needed tool that wouldn’t benefit from more power), these tools are cheap for a reason. They’re old models and weaker than newer Fuel models. Why buy a tool that is outdated on power the moment you buy it?
In the M-12 platform, more power is a very good thing. Contrast that to the M-18 line, where oftentimes the non-Fuel version is plenty powerful. (I don’t like to use my M18 fuel drills when drilling steel as if it binds it will HURT your wrist. I always use my non-fuel M18 drill when drilling metal—they can hurt your wrist but at least I don’t worry about cracking/breaking my wrist….
The nature of the higher voltage 18 volt line is that normally the earlier versions still have plenty of power. I have found that not to normally be the case with the M-12 line as the lower voltage tools need all of the help they can get.
Buy the caulking gun and on all of the others, you get what you pay for……pass on them.
