Milwaukee Shockwave 25pc Screwdriver Bit Set with Packout-Compatible Case

It seems that Milwaukee wants to put a Packout product in every tool user’s kit this holiday season, given the sheer number of compatible drilling and driving bit sets that are on sale right now.

We’ve seen accessory sets with Packout-compatible cases in prior years, but nothing like what they’re offering right now.

Milwaukee’s impact-rated drill bit and screwdriver bit sets tend to be popular every year, and so perhaps it’s no surprise there are so many deals on Shockwave and Red Helix bit sets right now.

A lot of these deals are available at Home Depot stores, and at the time of this posting they’re all available from Home Depot’s online store with FREE SHIPPING.

The 25pc set, shown above, is a good starter set at $14.97.

When you wear out all of the screwdriver bits, load up the case with more. These cases are a HUGE improvement over Milwaukee’s older style bit holder cases.

Here’s how the sets are designed to fit inside a Packout low-profile organizer.

Milwaukee Shockwave Drill Bit and Screwdriver Bit Sets in Packout Organizer

You can load up a Packout organizer with different accessory cases in different ways. The larger and deeper bit cases can be stored open, while the shallow clear-lid cases can be stored closed.

Unfortunately, there’s no master drilling and driving bit set like this (yet?) – you have to buy everything separately.

But, if everyone asks loudly enough, maybe someone at Milwaukee will hear us and make it happen.

Milwaukee Red Helix 15pc Drill Bit Set with Packout-Compatible Case

The 15pc drill bit set is also a good buy for $19.97, with hex-shank drill bit sizes ranging from 1/16″ to 3/8″.

Milwaukee Red Helix 23pc Drill Bit Set with Packout-Compatible Case

The 23pc set has drill bit sizes from 1/16″ to 3/8″ for $29.98.

This set gives you (3) more sizes compared to the 15pc set, and a couple more duplicates in different sizes.

Note: Home Depot inexplicably bumped the online price up from $29.98 to $34.97. I’d say either check back and wait for it to drop back down, or look for it in stores.

Milwaukee Shockwave 74pc Screwdriver Bit Set with Packout-Compatible Case

This 74pc set gives you a lot for just $19.97.

If you want even more, check out this mixed contents 120pc set for $29.88.

Milwaukee Shockwave 90pc Screwdriver Bit Set with Packout Organizer Case

This set is a little different – you get a 90pc Shockwave bit set and a compact low-profile organizer for $49.88.

The 100pc set used to be this price but is now a special buy for $59.97. I think the 90pc set is a good buy, but personally I prefer the 100pc set for its larger selection of longer screwdriver bits.

There’s no organization included with either set, but on the positive side this means they both come with a full set of organizer bins and dividers.

I didn’t need any more drill bits but I did buy a 2 pack of the 23 piece drill bit sets for the new cases. I despise the old drill bit cases.
The two pack is still $59.97 or $56.97 with their “subscribe and save” option, which is what I did.

That 74 piece set for $20 is a killer deal. I bought the case alone a few weeks back for $15.

I have a lot on my plate to think about. Tools or lottery tickets to buy tools.

Seriously, I like how Packout does this and even though I have Packout and TSTAK my TSTAK is committed to drilling, driving and fasteners.

Love to be a fly on the wall at some of these companies.

A few months ago I bought the larger Milwaukee drill bit set. The one thing I don’t understand is, why do they only give us short drill bits in the smaller diameter? They give us a few doubles in case we break one, but they are barely long enough to go through a 2x. If you are drilling smaller holes through two pieces or somethingthat is wider than a 2x, it would be nice to be able to do it in one motion.

I think that you can blame it on ANSI B94.11M-1979 that sets the specs for Jobber-length drill sizes. Typically twist drill standards set the flute length as a multiple of the bit diameter. I believe that multiplier varies between 9x and 14x the drill diameter. So, a 1/4-inch bit will have a greater length than a 1/8-inch bit. While it does not help with the issue that you have in drilling small holes in dimensional lumber – it has a practical aspect in preventing smaller drill bits from experiencing breakage. If you need smaller bits in longer lengths – you may wish to look at “taper” or “aircraft” length bits. But be aware that you may need to go easy when using them to avoid side loads that will break the bits and that they will have a tendency to wander.

Longer drill bits are more likely to break, especially in smaller diameters that tend to be fragile as it is.

Hand-held drilling of tiny holes is a challenge. A small bit of drill spindle/chuck runout or wobble in your grip on the drill might not be noticed when using a 1/4 inch drill bit. But move way down in size and you may break more drill bits than you drill holes. For really tiny holes – a CNC machine with minimal runout might be the ticket – but the application would unlikely involve drilling lumber. Folks also have breakage issues when hand drilling hard materials with more brittle cobalt-alloy bits in small diameters.

Jeremiah, if you want to go down the path of aviation long drill bits, you may want to try Drill hog. These are 6 in drill bits, but they also have 12 inch. They say lifetime warranty, but I couldn’t quickly find their terms for the warranty.:

Do folks who have these sets find the cases sturdy enough to use on their own (ie not in a Packout box)? I made a go-bag mixed set of bits in an older Milwaukee case, and I like the modular organization but it’s really hard to slide the bits in and out. The packout compatible cases look better for bit access, so I’m intrigued, but all the ones at my store are in clamshell packing.

I bought a two pack of the 23 piece drill bit sets and love the cases. Plenty sturdy on their own, but the biggest advantage they have over the old cases is ease of bit removal. They’re held in snugly, but not finger-slashingly tight like the old cases. The front rows are tilt to remove, the ones in the back are pull straight up to remove, but it doesn’t take a lot of pressure to do so.

Like I said in another post, I didn’t need the bits since I already have a few of those around the shop and house, but the cases are worth the upgrade.

Oh, they finally came to their sense and made tilt out bit holder bases? Like everybody else, so you don’t slice your fingers on drill bits or look like funny with a screw driver or pliers trying to get something out.
Shame I am stocked up for life on Bosch and Milwaukee bit cases, or I might buy some.

Is packout compatibility exclusive to just these cases? I have held off on buying into any container system base off the release of Toughbuilt’s StackTech. However, being able to group bit sets into their own cases and store in a packout container could push me towards packout
