Milwaukee Sherpa-Lined Vest 801 Brown Hero

New York’s next Fashion Week is still around two months away, but Milwaukee Tool has added a few new items to their line of jobsite Workwear.

Be “Jobsite Chic” this fall, with a new Milwaukee midweight hoodie, vest, or hat!

According to Milwaukee’s website, they now have 58 different items aimed at keeping tradespeople moving, comfortable, and protected on and around the job site.

The latest additions include a midweight hooded pullover, sherpa-lined vest, and a new Gridorin version of their popular trucker hat.

Rest assured, ToolGuyd will not be hosting a fashion show. It’s not that we don’t want to strut our stuff down the catwalk, we just cannot find the right venue. While you try to get that image out of your head, here’s a quick rundown on the new products, all of which are expected to start shipping next month (August, 2022).

Milwaukee Midweight Pullover Hoodie

Milwaukee-Tool-Lightweight-Pullover-Hoodie-351B-2022-Worn-Outdoors

The new midweight hooded sweatshirt are said to be durable, while shedding some weight for greater comfort and mobility.

Milwaukee’s earlier hooded sweatshirts — not the heated versions, mind you, but the No Days Off/Heavy Duty Hoodie — are pretty heavy garments, which makes sense, given the need for all-weather versatility, protection from tears and abrasions and other job site concerns.

So while the 450 GSM fabric weight of the 75/25 cotton poly blend of the heavy duty sweatshirts could withstand all kinds of abuse, they had a tendency to make things a bit uncomfortable for the person under the garment, especially if it was raining.

Milwaukee says the new cotton polyblend material of the new midweight hoodies allows for easier layering and greater breathability.

Milwaukee 2022 Midweight Pullover Hoodie Specs

Though Milwaukee’s press release didn’t include similar specs for fabric, the new version (Item 351) sounds like it might be similar to some of the workout/performance/tech athleisure type of pullovers you’ll find offered by sportswear brands like Nike, Under Armour or Adidas.

The hoodies feature reinforced pockets for greater wear and tear durability, rib-knit cuffs and waistband, a drawstring hood, and are fleece-lined for warmth.

Milwaukee Heavy-Duty Sherpa-Lined Vest

Milwaukee Sherpa-Lined Vest 801 Brown Worn Outdoors

Similar to Milwaukee’s original heated vest, the new (non-heated) Sherpa-lined vest features a fleece lining with a canvas outer layer for tear and abrasion resistance.

The vest has five pockets, one of which will be where you thought you put your tape measure.

In a way, Milwaukee has combined elements from both of its previous heated vests: the durability of their original ripstop version (2172) with the fit, length and style of the AXIS version (303-20/21).

Milwaukee GRIDIRON Snapback Truck Hat

Milwaukee Gridiron Trucker Hat 505G

The new Gridiron Snapback Truck Hat is pretty much the exact same hat that has graced the author’s head on a regular basis since it was introduced at NPS in 2018, with the only difference being a gray ripstop front panel.

Other than that, it’s pretty much your basic trucker-style hat, featuring mesh side and rear panels, and adjustable snapback fit, and a front panel made of Milwaukee’s Gridiron ripstop material.

Update: It seems that the 505 has previously been available in Black (505B), with this launch being more of a color expansion rather than a brand new product.

Both hats are available in one size with an adjustable snap-style back closures.

Discussion

Milwaukee has been steadily growing their line of heated and unheated workwear for quite a few years now.

I first discovered Milwaukee’s workwear and accessories at their NPS media event way back in 2018 — which, by the way, is where the original Milwaukee trucker hat was introduced.

I’ve been a big fan of the few items I have purchased since then, a collection which consists of two dry-fit style t-shirts, the heated pullover, as well as a traditional t-shirt in both long and short sleeves. The material quality of all those garments is what I expect from other name brand clothing lines. so I have little reason to believe these will be any different.

I’d say the midweight hoodie is probably my favorite of the new products. My ideal weather calls for short pants and hoodies (topped off with a hat, of course), and I like lighter-weight tops over traditional hooded sweatshirts that have been stolen by spouses and significant others for decades.

Of course, if the temperature drops a little too much, you can always throw on the Sherpa-lined vest over the hoodie, because layering is always in style – which obviously is the most important consideration for everyone reading this post.

As for the hat, well… hey, if you’re a certain sports-writing tool blogger who already has 317 hats in their collection, will adding one more make that number any more ridiculous? Probably not.

The new stuff looks good. It seems weird to buy clothing from (what I still at least associate with) a power tool company, but so long as the quality is good and the branding isn’t obnoxious, I don’t mind.

I prefer zip-up hoodies when working, but to each their own (I already have the heated one). Just seems better so I can take it off easily as I warm up, put it back on as I cool down. It’s workwear after all.

The hat looks ok too. All my hats have been unbranded Flexfit caps for the last several years though. I don’t have any vanity attached to the logo on my caps. They’re the same thing nearly all companies use as blanks to affix their logo to, but I regularly get the blank ones from Amazon for $10-15 Canadian. Plus, I can decide if I want a vented, textured, high-rise, short brim… etc, independent of whatever logo it is sporting.

Probably no weirder than buying branded electronics accessories, like my DeWalt Bluetooth earbuds or a charging cord, ect.

My Dickies vest is probably in its last year of use, and that may be pushing it. Might have to look at the Milwaukee, especially when decent offerings from Dickies seem to be non-existent. Nothing seems to resemble what I currently own.

I hear you about Dickies. Been wearing 874 work pant for years. Quality has gone down but price has gone up. They’re trying to be some kind of fashion brand it seems like.

I tried Red Cap light weight all cotton work pant. I figured it would be good for the summer heat. It’s definitely cooler than 65% poly 35% cotton Dickies but Red Cap pants are so baggy. Reminds me of the baggy jeans from the 90s lol.

Anyways the Milwaukee vest looks nice. The nice thing about Milwaukee and DeWalt is they both are powered by a 12V barrel connector. Or at least they were a few years ago. So regardless of who makes the apparel as long as you have the battery and adapter you should be able to swap between brands. I would assume Makita is the same way?

Ops I thought these were heated garments. I thought the pricing was a little to good lol.

Still probably similarly priced as other premium work brand apparel like Carhart and Deluth.

Still the same. All being Milwaukee, Dewalt, Ridgid, and even Hart. Bosch also works, but needs some special wizardry of inserting the connection 3x to activate.
You can also find a few flat battery banks that were more geared towards USB devices, but also have a 12v barrel. I’m still trying to find one ideally with USB-C charging, along with USB A & 12v barrel.

Hoodies are great for ripping down drywall. The pieces don’t fall down your neck.
