Last week I wrote about Dewalt’s 20V Max to 18V adapter and starter set being on sale. Well, it’s back in stock, and still on sale.
It is currently priced at $141 before and $121 after discount, which is a great price if you’re looking to breath new life into your older Dewalt 18V tools.

Makita’s new 18V X2 cordless vacuum sounds like a great idea. It can plugged into a wall outlet for long and tougher cleanup and dust collection tasks, or operated cordlessly when the need for cord-free convenience arises. It’s pricey, and doesn’t come with batteries, but looks marvelously convenient.

I bought a Festool CT 26 a few years ago, and LOVE IT! Yes, it was a pricey investment, but it works superbly, especially with Festool power tools. My lungs are cleaner for it, or at least I believe they are.

Father’s Day Gift Guide?
I’ve started seeing let’s kiss up to advertiser and potential advertiser Father’s Day gift guides, and weighed whether I would be coming out with my own no-BS gift guide this year. I haven’t ruled it out, and plenty of giftable tools have been jumping into my head.
I’m still working on an update to my Ultimate Tool Gift Guide, but I don’t think I’ll be able to pull it all together in the next ~2 weeks.

There are quite a few brand discounts this year, although sadly there are different exclusions than in previous years, such as on Dewalt’s ToughSystem tool storage products. Darn.

Don’t forget to price shop on those Amazon deals. I was interested in the Dewalt $20 off $100 for some of the 10-compartment parts organizers. Right now they’re $24 but HD has them for $20 (Amazon is 20 percent higher, pre discount). Looking at an Amazon price history website, they nudged up the price shortly before the sale took effect. I don’t know if this is the case for some other tools, but I wouldn’t be surprised. Shop around and do the math.

Do a search for amazon price tracker. I think Camel camel camel is the one that google always spits out first.
Will show price history for as long as it has been on sale at Amazon (at least for everything I’ve checked).
Interestingly- most tools seem to be the cheapest this time of year, just barely cheaper than around the holidays.

I would say Leatherman tools, from REI, but their 25% off deal ended cob Monday. I definitely would say anything from Pony Tools or one of their related brands, other than Easy Wood Tools, as the company has suspended operations…. If Father wants some Pony or Jorgensen clamps, now’s the time to get ’em.

I should have also said that its a bit sad that another venerable ( since 1903) USA (in this case Chicago) manufacturer has closed up shop. I wonder how Dubuque Clamp Works is faring these days – as the last of the USA-Made clamp manufacturers

Jorgensen / pony aka adjustable clamp company had gone the way of great neck – imports. Cheap ones at that.
I’m surprised anyone would put their name on the Chinese garbage ACC put out – especially the adjustable wrenches, with more slop than I thought possible in a wrench

The 2 18-inch handscrews I purchased 2 weeks ago, were made in the USA. Maybe old stock on the wall at Dynamite Tool ??

Well so much for that Makita cordless vacuum. I was figuring it would be like $200 without the batteries. $680 for a 2.1 gallon vac without batteries seems rather pricey. I wonder if another company makes it for them like their corded vac is just a rebranded Nilfisk.

Ouch! Even if it included batteries and charger that’s a hard purchase to justify at that price. The list price is over $1000!

“….be like $200 without the batteries” is an unrealistic expectatio, given the x2 hybrid platform and electronics, casters, filter, and attachments.
Since the x2 platform is exclusively Makita, this is not a rebranding candidate. Who would have a x2 hybrid vac developed to start from?
I predict a realistic USA best price point may settle in at $350-400. Converted into USD, it is currently available on Amazon Japan at ~$470. That means I could probably get one from my Makita guy in Osaka for $430USD. USA prices are generally alittle cheaper, hence my $350-400 estimate.
FYI. Makita just release a industrial/commercial robotic vac that is fully featured and pretty sweet. But also quite pricey. Given the price point, it will likely never be offered in the USA. Just like their smart automatic transmission cordless circular saws (and a number of other cordless tools). Too pricey for US consumers.

If you mean the brushless circ saw with the ‘ speed change’ tech , that one is widely available 🙂

I was specifically referencing the Makira HS471 and the USA market. It was introduced several years ago in Japan and never released in the USA. It is a nice saw, but too pricey for the USA market to coexist with another saw at a lesser price point.

Alot more realistic is the following scenario: 3 years ago the world had the brushless Milwaukee fuel saw as the only brushless saw available. Makita was already caching flak with their first brushless drill Ddf459, which was a compact brushless unit nowwhere near the power of the fuel.
Milwaukee marketing was already having fun with Makita for not Being able to produceren a stronger brushless drill.
If Makita brought out the hs471 in Europese/us that would have given Milwaukee more to laugh out. Yet again a small compact brushless tool, nothing compared to the power of the fuel.
Makita only released it in Japan because Milwaukee has almost no presense there
