Mora is a Swedish knife company that knows how to make a good blade for not much money. Their Companion knife is a popular model, designed primarily for outdoors use, and features a high-friction rubbery grip and 4.1″ steel blade.
There are a couple of things I don’t like about the two Mora knives I own. Their blades are carbon steel and not stainless steel. The spines are roughly ground and left rough. Their sheaths don’t offer a lot of carry options.

It’s a good thing there are a lot more reasons to like Mora knives. They’re inexpensive, reasonably sharp out of the box, easy to sharpen, comfortable to hold and use, and available in different shapes and sizes.
The Companion has become popular because it’s a good size for outdoors use – 4.1″ blade and 8.6″ overall length. You have a choice between stainless steel and carbon steel blades, and there are also a few serrated edge blade options.

You read that right.
The two I have are carbon steel. That’s not a bad thing, but carbon steel can stain or rust quickly if you’re not careful.
The stainless steel Mora uses might not be as strong or easy to sharpen as carbon steel, I’m not sure, which is why they offer both options.
The colored versions are only available in SS, the MG olive green version is available with either blade material.

They are great knives. I like the carbon steel, sure they can rust but you get a keener edge. I can shave with mine if I want to. I have the Classic #2, i just have to be careful there is no blade guard.

I have several Moras. All of mine are stainless steel. Out of the box they are fairly sharp, but I put mine on a few passes through my Spyderco Sharpmaker and they are even better now. And yes it is possible to get a shaving edge even on the stainless models. They are definitely the best value on the market for a quality all-purpose sheath knife.

I find the Sandvik Stainless versions to be on par with the Carbon steel Companions. The stainless they use is awesome, really the first stainless I have liked. 🙂

I have never owned this brand of a knife, but I would love to own a pair. It seems like a very good deal for the price. I have a few spiderco and gerber knives, this knife seems to be a much better value price wise. I hope to own one of these soonn
