Over at Amazon, today’s deal of the day features several Mora knives, on sale for up to 50% off.

I’ve written a little about Mora knives before, and the last giveaway was back in 2013. There are a few things to know about these knives.

1. They’re fixed blade knives, that’s all Mora makes.

2. They’re inexpensive.

3. Despite the price they’re darned good knives.

4. They’ve got basic designs, don’t expect bells and whistles.

5. Made in Sweden.

There are a couple of different knives included in this deal. There’s a small utility style knife, and this “Companion” knife which is more aimed at outdoors use. It’s got a 4.1″ stainless steel blade.

I’ve got (at least) one of these around the workshop, and will be ordering 2 more – one as a backup or to give as a gift, and one for trimming outdoor plants. The price is too good to pass up.

These are often prized as lightweight outdoors knives. Although probably not designed for it, I use mine for cutting boxes, wire, cord, and random other tasks I come across. It’s not a stand-in for a conventional utility knife, but has its place in any home or workshop.

If you’ve never tried one of these knives, you can snag one for $8 to $9. There are a few other styles worth looking at, such as a shorter 3.6″ Craftline Pro knife.

The last time I bought one of these Mora Companion knives was in May of 2015, and I spent $15.49. With the price being so good, maybe I should buy some more as gifts. Update: Yep, I bought 5 more.

Just pulled trigger on two orange versions (currently cheapest option) one for workshop, one for car. Thanks.

Wow, you don’t see such great reviews on Amazon across the board. These are a good find and I think I will buy one just cut Poret filter foam I buy from Germany in bulk sheets. It’s hard to get straight smooth cuts with my current kitchen knife even after sharpening.

I am lucky enough to live in the small town where the knives are manufactured and this year Morakniv opened a concept store here.

For what it’s worth, there’s a few different Morakniv “Companion” knives:

The Companion Heavy Duty has a .125″ wide carbon steel blade – great for outdoors use as you can beat on the back edge to cut stuff you normally couldn’t. This knife feels *really* nice in the hands when out camping.

The Companion Stainless is a bit narrower at .100″ wide and the blade is a stainless steel (instead of carbon steel of the two others on sale).

The Companion Carbon is thinner yet, at .080″ wide. Never tried this one, but I’ve ordered one to try out.

Amazon has this product info buried in the listings, but the item names don’t really give it away.

The hook knives looked interesting enough to try out, as well as a couple of the companion knives for stocking stuffer material. Amazon limited the black on black handles to max of four per order.

I have a Bahco 2444 (made by Mora) that I paid less than $8 for two years ago. It is a surprisingly rugged multi-purpose knife for the price,

I recently had a knife phase and these are hands down the best knives for the money. IMO the perfect outdoor knife; so many are overbuilt to look cool. I have a few $100+ knives but I keep coming back to these as they are easier to get razor sharp, have a thinner blade profile(slice well), use a well balanced steel feature-wise, have an excellent handle and since they are cheaper you’re not afraid to actually USE.

Other knives in this category may look more ‘tacti-cool’ but this one is likely a better KNIFE.

Picked one up last year for $14.62 on Amazon. Just ordered another for $8.15. Awesome deal. Many thanks.

I’ve bought 3 Mora last year, two All Around SS and one Electrician (newer style with the back spur). I’ve been using the electrician daily since I work as an electrician and the All around ones mostly for fishing (offshore and inshore) and for prepping food. I haven’t bought any of their carbon steel knifes yet (even the newer electrician one is SS, which they could make it in a carbon steel version too), but paired with the Lansky Blade Medic pocket sharpener, which is a very close fit to the original Scandinavia grind for the blade angle used by Mora, you’re never far from razor sharp no matter how much you abuse the knife. The grip is also very nice, which is why I prefer the Mora to the Klein splicing knife. Amazing quality for such a low price.

The cheapest Companion Stainless I see right now is the Olive Drab for $12.99. That is good, but not ridiculous.

I have the “light my fire” version with the firesteel as my normal hunting knife. Tears down deer like no ones business…

    Great knives for the money

As the winner of your last giveaway on these I can firmly say these are awesome knives. I got the heavy duty one with the carbon steel blade. It takes an edge really well and is just my go-to knife when i’m in my shop or outside. I love it! Looks like a I missed this deal though 🙁

They are a great value in knives, I have 2 or 3. Just one consideration. Mora knives tend to NOT have full length tangs. Whether this will matter depends entirely on how you’re going to use the knife. Not that I say “tend”. Some do, most do not.

The only people I’ve known who were concerned with having full tang knives are people on the internet. If you’re in a situation where that is a concern you are using the wrong tool.

I have received all of mine by today. They are great knives. Even at regular price. My wife doesn’t like the Mora Companion stainless steel version as much as I thought she would. We also got the Bushcraft. She like that one a lot more.
