New Bosch OIS Standard for Oscillating Multi-Tool Accessories

Bosch OIS Oscillating Multi-Tool Accessories

Remember when we posted about Bosch’s growing selection of oscillating multi-tool accessories? Well there’s more to the picture than we originally thought. In tandem with the new accessories, Bosch has developed a new Oscillating Interface System (OIS), to serve as a standard multi-tool interface.

The OIS is a 12-pin system that provides a secure and reliable connection between an oscillating multi-tool and an attached accessory. The 12-pin connection also allows for the attachments to be secured at 30° angular increments, for greater maneuverability and access in tighter workspaces.

Several manufacturers have already jumped on the OIS bandwagon, with tools by Skil, Milwaukee and Bosch featuring built-in OIS compatibility.

Refer to our previous post to see what types of cutting, grinding and sanding accessories will feature the new OIS standard.

Essentially, this means that you will be able to use Bosch OIS multi-tool accessories on your favorite oscillating multi-tool. Going by a handy chart shown on Coptool, it looks like Bosch OIS accessories will fit tools by Bosch, Skil, Fein, Rockwell, Craftsman, Mastercraft, Ridgid & Milwaukee.

In case you missed it, Dremel recently released a similar universal adapter of their own. It will be interesting to see if both lines maintain their separate platforms. Dremel is a Bosch sister/daughter company, so it makes little sense for them to have competing interfaces. We have both adapters in-hand to see if they fit each other’s accessories.
