Milwaukee 2682-22 M18 Metal Cutting Saw Side View

Milwaukee has recently introduced their new M18 cordless 5-3/8″ metal cutting saw that is powered by their new RedLithium battery technology. The new saw features a 4-pole frameless 3600 RPM motor allowing it to deliver up to 35% more cutting power.

These improvements in battery and motor tech mean faster cuts and longer run time, with the compact and lightweight body leading to greater control and less fatigue. The new saw is said to be able to make more than 200 cuts of 3/4″ EMT per charge – how’s that for run-time!

The saw also features a extra large cut guide, impact resistant window, LED light for improved line of sight, a toll-free depth adjustment for cutting depths 1/8″ to 2″, a stainless steel shoe for reduced chip build up and to prevent marring.

A Metal Tech 5-3/8″ 30T carbide-tipped blade (20mm arbor) is included with the saw kit, for cutting through ferrous materials such as metal conduit, sheet metal and angle iron. A non-ferrous blade is also available separately.

The metal saw kit (2682-22) includes the tool, cutting blade, two M18 XC high capacity Red Lithium batteries, a 1-hour charger and a contractor bag. The bare tool (2682-20) includes just the saw and cutting blade.

We bought its Makita LXT counterpart and found it to be an OK tool for up to medium-thick plate – but prefer a corded or cordless (we again have the Makita LXT variety) portable bandsaw for cutting things like old pipe, channel iron, strut and the like. For new pipe – we usually have a machine in the truck for cutting/threading – and still think wheeled cutters produce a better result than saws. For large jobs – – roof decking etc. we find that our Makita LXT metal saw is just not up to the task – so we switch to one of our corded Morse or Evolution metal-cutting saws. BTW – I’m not touting the Makita LXT 18V line over Milwaukee M18 – its just what we bought into at the time we were in the market for 18V tool changeout. We did just the opposite buying into the M12 line instead of Makita for 12V tools.
