In recent years new compact 12V cordless tools – impact drivers, drills, saws, multi-tools, and so forth, have been flooding the market, and the selection of new tools keeps growing and growing. While they’re not suitable for all tasks, we have accepted that these compact tools are capable of handling many low to medium duty applications. There […]
Early April Fools Joke or Awesome Multitool?
I spotted this creatively altered image of a hammer-ratchet multitool over at the ShopNGarage forum. It may be hard to believe, but as unusual as a hammer-ratchet multitool would be, I’ve been pitched strangers tool combination ideas before. Have a neat photoshopped/GIMPed multitool of your own? Send a pic of it our way via email. […]
Inova X5 LED Flashlight
Inova’s X5 is a great LED flashlight at an affordable price. The X5 features 5 LEDs that output a maximum of 60 lumens, has a durable aerospace-grade aluminum body, and runs on CR123 lithium batteries. Like Inova’s other X-series flashlights, the X5 has a knurled twist switch, and machined flats around its body that makes the flashlight […]

Shop Tip: Wire Stripper Loop Holes & How to Use Them
I came across a rather enlightening shop tip over at the ShopNGarage forum, that demonstrates the use of a wire stripper’s loop holes. Most of my wire strippers have similar holes, but they’re all unlabeled and I never stopped to think about what they could be used for. Well, now I know!
Spiral Supports Instructional Video
If you read our recent review of Spiral Supports, a novel new type of shelf support pin, and are still a bit unsure as to how they work, take a look at this brief instruction video and it should answer most if not all of your questions. Spiral Supports are currently available at Woodcraft, and […]
Non-Marring Hammer for Woodworking?
I spotted this tiny non-marring hammer over at a recent Woodworking show. With dime-sized replaceable brass and plastic heads, this hammer is most likely used for precision tool setup or maintenance, unless there are other woodworking applications that I’m not yet aware of.
American Hammer 8oz Brass Hammer Review
Reader JD was kind enough to share a very detailed review of a recently purchased 8oz brass American Hammer with us. If you recall, American Hammer is currently holding a direct-sales promotion and has heavily discounted many of their hammers.
A Note About Comment & Email Replies This Week
In case some of you were wondering why I have not yet responded to your comments, questions, and emails, it is because I have been out of town and won’t be returning until late this week. As always, each comment and email will be carefully read and responded to when appropriate, but the responses may […]
Gerber Microbrew Water Resistant LED & Bottle Opener
Gerber’s new Microbew features a water resistant LED light built into a bottle opener. The Microbew has a stainless steel body, recessed switch to prevent accidental activation, replaceable batteries, and regulated circuitry. Gerber Microbrews are available with either white or red LEDs, and should soon be available at retailers for $12.50. The only concern we have about the Microbew is […]
Woodline Wood Gear Clock Kit
Over at the Woodworking Show we recently visited, I spotted an incredible working wood geared clock kit by Woodline. These photos hardly do the clock justice – it was far more spectactular in person.

Spiral Supports are a brand new shelf support pin of a unique design that is claimed to provide perfect shelving every time. These shelf pins are quick and easy to adjust, and can be used to eliminate the wobbling or trembling associated with slightly misaligned support pin holes in cabinets and shelving. Even if you can […]
Ridgid JobMax Teaser Advertisement
Reader and frequent commenter uthscsaedu sent us this photo of an advertisement board he spotted at his local Home Depot. The board is promoting pre-order sales of Ridgid’s new JobMax combo kit, which are supposed to be released this month. Has anyone seen the tools in-store yet, and if so, what did you think about them? […]

Bench Dog has recently launched their own line of woodworking Bench Cookies. No doubt these cookies are a licensed or rebranded version of Rockler’s design, but what this means is that Bench Cookies may soon reach a much larger audience. The Little Numatic Henry Vacuum That Could

Final Cut Saw Blade Demo Impressions
At a recent Woodworking Show, I had the opportunity to see a Final Cut saw blade in action. We’re currently reviewing Final Cut’s 10″ blade on a miter saw, but it was good to see the same blade used in a table saw. Final Cut’s new circular saw blades were also on-scene, but I didn’t stick […]
Really Neat DIY Cleanroom Box
There is a really neat (pun not intended) DIY cleanroom box project tutorial over at the I Heart Robotics blog that caught our attention. This step-by-step how-to is very detailed, and shows how to create a small cleanroom-type workspace from some cheap industrial shelving, MDF, a cooling fan, and a ShopVac-type filter.
