We’re hoping that you guys could help us out – we’re looking for a USA distributor for Gray Tools. We know that you can find local USA dealers via the Gray Tools website, but we specifically want to source an online dealer. We had already tried asking Gray Tools about this via email, and about the […]
Craftsman & Waterloo Ball Bearing Storage QC: 0 for 3
I recently purchased three Craftsman ball bearing storage products recently, during a decent clearance sale. I’m fairly certain that Waterloo produced these items, but I may be mistaken. Purchased were: two 2-drawer ball bearing intermediate chests, and one 6-drawer Griplatch ball bearing chest. Thus far, I’m less than fully satisfied with all three units.
Ikea’s Alex 6 Drawer Cabinet
I’m a huge fan of IKEA’s ALEX series of drawer units, with my favorite style being the above-pictured 6-drawer unit. While the drawers are not fully extending, they’re quite spacious, and can handle a reasonable amount of weight for their size and construction. As with most IKEA products, assembly is DIY, but everything fits together […]
Reader Review – Craftsman Double Ring Stool
ToolGuyd reader SharkBreath dropped us a note about a checkered stool he found at his local Sears. SharkBreath writes: I found these stools at my local Sears in Daytona. They are marked $24.99 on clearance from $29.99. It’s only a $5 savings, but these stools are the nice sturdy, double ring design. I already own […]
Screwpop 4-in-1 Keychain Tool
We recently found out about the Screwpop 4-in-1 keychain tool, which offers a bottle opener, #2 Phillips screwdriver bit, flathead screwdriver bit, and a 1/4″ nut driver in a tidy key-sized package. If you consider that the flathead bit can be used as an impromptu pry bar, then the Screwpop is in fact a 5-in-1 tool. […]
Hands-on Review of the Craftsman MiterMate Miter Saw
There are quite a few questions about the new Craftsman 21226 MiterMate miter saw that we set out to address with a full no-holds barred hands-on review. Is the MiterMate gimmicky? Overly complex? Awkward and clumsy? Or is it as innovative and functional as Craftsman advertises? Keep reading for our full review of the MiterMate, or […]

First User Reviews of the Paulding Hammer
The first user reviews of the Paulding Hammer have started pouring in. Here is what Sam S. shared with us via a comment about The Hammer: I purchased one of the pre-production models of this hammer from Paulding and consider it the finest of my tools, and I have no light weight assembly of tools… […]
Craftsman 9 Drawer Stationary Storage Unit on Clearance!
While searching for additional products to add to our Sears & Craftsman Clearance Deals page, we spotted this fantastic deal. This Craftsman stationary storage unit has 9 Griplatch ball bearing drawers, and is quite spacious at 47″ wide, 18″ deep, and 54-1/4″ tall. Actually, this unit is better described as massive, with phenomenal capacity. The regular […]
Thread Checkers, Screw Gauges, & Size Identification
After posting about Lee Valley’s new thread ID tool, we started thinking about other thread-identification tools that we’re familiar with. Identifying a thread is usually done in one of two ways – by matching an unknown thread to a fastener of known thread, or by measuring and comparing the diamater and thread pitch of a fastener. Following are a few types […]
Stanley FatMax Functional Utility Bar Now in Yellow
Someone at Stanley though that they could pull a fast one on us, but oh no, we caught on! That’s right, they thought that they could just go ahead and improve the FatMax Functional Utility Bars (FuBars) by giving them a high visibility yellow powder coat without anyone noticing. But we did!
A Preview of the Spectacular Paulding Hammer
The Hammer, designed and crafted by John Paulding, is by far one of the most magnificent tools that we have ever laid our eyes upon. Still, merely describing The Hammer as a machinists hammer, as exemplary as it is, would never do it justice. Not just a tool, The Hammer is a work of art!
Gerber Shard – a Neat Minimalist Keychain Tool
The Gerber Shard is a knife-less keychain-sized one-piece multi-tool.
The Imaginatively Designed Craftsman MiterMate Miter Saw
The Craftsman 10″ MiterMate Miter Saw is unlike any miter saw that we’ve ever seen before. Compared to a traditional miter saw, the MiterMate, with its innovative V-fence system, is said to help woodworkers and DIYers save time while increasing the efficiency and accuracy of their cross cuts and miter joints.

Stanley Bostitch’s CAP1516 is an ultra-quiet and super portable 1.6 gallon oil-free air compressor intended for light duty trim work. How to Use a Rotary Tubing or Pipe Cutter
After yesterday’s quick review of a Superior Tools pipe cutter, we received a few inquiries about how to properly use such a cutter. Most if not all rotary tubing and pipe cutters share a similar design. Like a C-clamp, there is always one stationary support, and one adjustable support that is mounted to the end of […]
Quick Review of Superior Tool ST-2000 Pipe Cutter
I needed to make two cuts in a length of 1″ Schedule 40 galvanized steel pipe, and did not have the tools available to do so. There are many hand and power tools that would have been appropriate for a job like this: an angle grinder, chop saw, metal cutting circular saw, snap pipe cutters, rotary pipe […]
Ryobi Tek4 Snips & Screwdriver Set – a Closer Look
As previously mentioned, the Ryobi Tek4 5-piece kit features two new additions to the Tek4 lineup – a cordless screwdriver, and power snips. We gave these new Tek4 tools some more thought, and were able to briefly give them a try in-store. All in all, we are pretty optimistic about these new tools, and the […]
