Pelican 9000 LED Light Case

The new Pelican ProGear 9000 Light Case features an LED work light built into a protective storage case. It could also be considered a storage case built into an LED work light.

The case is built with two variable brightness LEDs that can deliver combined illumination power of up to 200 lumens. There are 3 output levels – 200 lumens (high), 100 lumens (medium), and 20 lumens (low), and a signaling mode.

The Light Case is powered by 4 AA batteries, and runtime is up to 4 hours in high brightness mode, 12 hours in medium mode, and 80 hours in low mode.

As with other Pelican cases, the Light Case is made from tough and durable plastic construction. It’s waterproof to IP64 standards and the LEDs are protected with a clear polycarbonate lens. Pelican designed the Light Case to be buoyant, so that it could float to the surface if accidentally dropped into the water.

Dimensions: 8″ long x 5″ wide x 2.25″ deep

Color Options: Black and Yellow
MSRP: $60
Street Price: $54

First Thoughts

If you’re looking for a Pelican case to protect small tools or gear, this is not the case for you. If you’re looking for a compact LED worklight, this is not the light for you. But if you need a small case and could sometimes use a bright LED light, or a bright LED light and can sometimes use a small case, this might just fit the bill.

What a strange product ! If there were a collector’s market for such things – it might be worth buying since its my opinion that they will not sell many. I’d be inclined to pack many other things rather than this for a camping or rafting trip.

It was just announced, and so it might be dome time before it makes it to dealers.
