Over at Amazon, these Peltor Ultimate 10 hearing protection earmuffs are on sale for $14.99. Plus, there’s a “clippable coupon” right beneath the price that takes another 20% off the price, dropping it to $11.99.
I bought a pair of these earmuffs last year to replace my older and worn hearing protection. They were $20.41.

They have a noise reduction rating (NRR) of 30 dB, and are pretty comfortable to wear, even over glasses. So when I saw that the current price after coupon is $11.99, I immediately bought a second pair.
Honestly, I don’t have a good reason, but hey, maybe one day I’ll need my wife’s help with a project or for tool testing. Or maybe the new one will be for her use when she uses the noisy food processor or vacuum.
If you’re considering buying these even a little, pull the trigger and get in on the deal. That way I won’t feel as silly being pulled in by the $12 price. It wasn’t just the price, as I already own and love these earmuffs, but I wasn’t planning on buying another pair at full price.

It’s unclear as to when the sale price and extra 20% savings promo will end.

The sale price seems to have ended. I was going to get them, but it’s now 17.99 and I have some other brand. STill have the 20% coupon, though

I have been using Peltor hearing muffs for some time now. I was introduced to them through work, and I find them excellent at noise reduction. They are probably the most comfortable noise protection on the market. They offer big padded ear cups and the lightly-padded headband adds to their comfort during use. It never hurts to have a second pair on hand and yes, I wear them while vacuuming, too. Keep a pair in each work area and you’ll never have to search to find them when needed. It pays to wear them to help protect your hearing now and down the road.
The ones shown are fine for general use; the larger black and red model has even better noise reduction. The latter are especially useful for folks in high-noise work situations and for skeet or target shooting.
Stuart
The black and red model has the same noise reduction rating. I have both, and these look to be identical. Seems that only the color styling is different.

Ok, I bought them. I looked at the red and black ones, but this one had a higher protection rating. I’ve been using harbor freight ones which I’ll use with vacuuming, blender, etc. How much is my hearing worth? More than $15 for sure. Hearing aids cost thousands and thousands.

The higher rating is only 1 dB, though, so Stuart’s right about them being essentially the same.

The Decibel scale is logarithmic, so for values over 10 (or under -10), incremental differences are quite significant.

Oops! My error about the NRR on these. At first glance, they looked like a narrower pair I have (H9A, with yellow cups) that are rated at an NRR of 25 decibels (these are also sold as 3M Optime 98). After a second look, the Ultimate 10s are wider than the H9A muff, and thus have a higher NRR. For what it’s worth, the model H9A is good for most general needs. The wider models are designed for extreme noise protection. I wore the black and red muff when cutting concrete core on a diamond-bladed saw, which was LOUD.

I ordered a set and received them today. They seem to be very comfortable, although I’ll have to put them to a longer test than just a few minutes. The noise reduction seems good, too. There seemed to be tons of great reviews on these, and I happened to be needing some hearing protection beyond ear plugs.

Two quick side notes: It appears that 3M purchased Peltor back in 2011. The 3M logo and the new model number is printed at the top of the box they come in. The former model number (such as H9A) is at the bottom of the box, along with the brand name “Peltor”.
The red and black model we’ve been referring to is the former Model H10A, and is now sold as the “Optime 105”.
