Post-Black Friday “Special Buy” Price Drops

Dec 10, 2014 Stuart 23 Comments

Over at Home Depot, and possibly also at Lowes, Sears, and other retailers, Black Friday “special buys” are dropping in price.

To refresh your memory, here’s a list of Home Depot’s 2014 Black Friday tool deals. A lot of those special buys are now cheaper.

Some of those tools are the same price, some jumped back up to normal pricing. There is a pattern though. Special buys that stores started off with a lot of, and ones that won’t be restocked after they sell out – those are the ones that are now just a little bit cheaper.

For example, some Dewalt and Milwaukee bit sets have dropped in price, as did the 4pc Bessey clamp set and Ridgid 12V battery combo that were specially bundled for the holidays. Home Depot has also slashed the price on Dewalt ball bearing storage units.

At Lowes, some of their holiday specials have settled into their “real” prices, such as the Kobalt Direct Drive gearless ratchet and Flipout driver. But, I’m happy that Lowes didn’t pull the same “New Lower Price” nonsense as they had in previous years. This year, they actually sold, or made available for sale, tools at the “was” pricing.

I checked a few SKUs at Sears, and didn’t see any  price drops. A lot of prices stayed the same, and some went back up. But Sears also doesn’t follow the same sales strategies as other retailers. I haven’t noticed anything specific this year, but in past years some of their Black Friday discounts on certain tools weren’t as good as during regular pre-BF sales.

So if a holiday special caught your attention and you’ve been meaning to visit your local store to buy one, now’s a good time to think about making the visit. Some of the items are also available online as well.

Many of the better deals have already sold out or expired, but retailers are very motivated to move remaining seasonal tools out the door before the end of the year.

Have you found any Black Friday deals that are priced even lower now and worth sharing about?

m12 Rotary tool kit was $79 BF, in-store is $59, YMMV some stores don’t have the item in stock.

Yep, I just picked one up tonight at my local HD. It’s funny, this was on my list to check out on BF and I didn’t feel like I “needed” it at $79. At $59, it was close to feeling like getting the tool free after buying a battery and charger.

    The DeWalt 6 Clamp set was @ $25 over BF, it’s now @ $18. I did a price adjustment. 😀

My local HD (Virginia) has the M18 worklight w/ 4.0 battery for 89.00 down from 129.00 as shown here: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-M18-18-Volt-Lithium-Ion-XC-4-Ah-Extended-Capacity-Battery-with-M18-Cordless-LED-Work-Light-49-24-2735/205366308

This was not on sale during the holiday but was part of the 3rd tier of the 150.00 off deal.

I was tempted but have the M12 version so did not pull the trigger.

The extremely ugly ‘Camo’ Nextec (12v) heated jacket is now $49 at Sears, in-store and online. It looks like they’ve got these on a fire sale to clear them out. The goes-with-everything black version is still $119 on sale (vs $99 on black friday).

I figured the camo version wouldn’t sell well the moment I laid eyes on it. It’s even uglier than the box makes it out to be – the pattern has far too much pea soup green in it.

I wound up grabbing the last BF M12 kit — with the extra battery — Monday night and today, another HD location still had it listed at $99 so I got the price adjustment. Not too bad. Hoping I can track down the Ridgid Table Saw somewhere … preferably marked down from $199.

The HD website has been having “Special buy of the day” specials, today are several home security camera bundles.
Go to HD main site, then look towards the middle / bottom for “Special buy of the day”.
Click on that, takes you to the actual deal or in this case, deals……
    DON’T FORGET YOUR 20% HF COUPONS !!!
Might not work on “sale” prices, but fight for the “new” lower prices…..

It seems like every year the pancake air compressor kits come on sale after Christmas until they sell out. I think that last year the porter cable one with three nailers came down to less than $100 before they cleared all the inventory out.

Just got back from my local store and the Ryobi Lithium+ 4Ah 2-pack battery is marked down to 89 (from 99)

Lowest Ive ever seen it and they still have a ton left so I wonder if we’ll see even lower than 89?

John — You can use your harbor freight coupons at HD??????? Holy crap, I wish I had known this.

Also, managed to find one of the Ridgid table saws. Not marked down yet, but hoping it’ll happen in a few days and I’ll get my receipt adjusted.

Adam is right, what I learned is to just say “I did a few weeks ago with no problem”. The first time I was denied, was the last time.
Our HD has such a high employee turnover rate, this method works well..
Stocks went down today, watch for more sales lol….
So, the m12 would be $103…. with the 20% off coupon….
I stopped by my local HD today, it was a ghost town, cashiers waiting to serve you and greeting customers….

I brought my Ridgid table saw back today, planning to return for the DeWalt (decided against the DW at the last second; too small, liked the wheel/handle, etc). But, was able to re-puchase the Ridgid with the 25% off coupon. Took some maneuvering, but it paid off.

Not truly a BF deal but local HD has had multiple really good deals. Just browsing around, I happened to find the Milwaukee M12 Fuel (yes the brushless) Impact Driver Kit on the sale shelf for $139. I really didn’t have a need for new impact, but found this too good to pass up. There seems to be less “corporate pricing” at HD than other retailers…sometimes you just wander into a nice deal at a local store.

My local stores changed the price to 139 a few months ago (“New Lower Price”) then once they sold out they never re-stocked. Not sure why they are no longer carrying it.

I also managed to find a store carrying the combo set of M12 Fuel impact driver and M12 Fuel hammer drill. But it seems the M12 Fuel stuff is hard to find, I dont think it “fits” well in HD because of the cost compared to the non-brushless 12V stuff.

Same as their online price, $269

Was in the Bridgeport CT store…I actually bought it, but realized the two separate kits were a better deal (when stacked with the 150 off promo) so I returned it to the Stratford CT store.

They promptly printed out a shelf sticker for it and still have it for sale…..maybe an indication that they planned on stocking it all along at some point in the near future.

After a lot of searching, I grabbed the last of the Milwaukee bit sets linked above. I figured an inexpensive but diverse set in a case would be handy to keep with the impact driver, since the proper drill index and bit sets live with the drill in my core portable kit.

As it turns out, the two cases are great: possibly the best part of the deal. The holding blocks are not quite as nice as the PB-Swiss ones, but they hold well enough and bits are pretty easy to remove. More importantly, the blocks rotate, so they can lie flat, or at about 45 degrees or vertical for easy access. The case is deep enough that 1″ bits can stand at 90 for a high-density option, and the 2″ can shingle over each other in transport and then rotate vertical for access. Best of all, the blocks are re-positionable in the cases, so with some thought and care I manged to consolidate 42 of the 66 bits into a single case, with one of everything and some duplicates of the high-wear items.

M18 LED worklight w/4.0 battery was $89.00 at my local HD. Last week it was 99.00. Online it still shows for 129.00. It is worth it just for the 4.0 battery in my opinion.
