They affected 2AA flashlights were sold in a couple of different colors (black, red, green, blue). About 225,000 flashlights in the USA are affected by the recall, and 7,000 in Canada.
There were 12 reports of these flashlights overheating and melting during use, but luckily there were no reports of personal injuries or property damage.
Rayovac has identified the cause of the overheating issue:
The spring, which is the negative battery terminal of the flashlight, may become dislodged and may cause a short circuit in some cases. Should a short circuit occur, the battery overheats for a brief period of time, posing a burn hazard to consumers.
These flashlights were sold for about $3-$6.
If you have one of these flashlights, you will need to check the date code to see if it is included in the recall. This information is on a white sticker inside the flashlight tube: The following date codes are included in the recall: E/J-C, H/F-C, I/F-C, L/F-C, M/W-C, O/F-C, R/F-C, R/J-C, S/J-C, T/F-C, U/F-C and Y/J-C. You will need this information when registering the product to initiate the return shipping and refund process.

If anyone is interested, Home Depot is selling almost the same version for only 4 bucks.

It’s not almost the same version at all. The light you linked to was discussed here at https://14cyiuhvcgv.com/rayovac-led-flashlight-deal-012014/%3C/a%3E . A great light, but it didn’t sell very well during the holiday season, possibly because it was placed right next to plenty of cheap flashlights, and also because the camo version was 25% more expensive than the plain black one.

Does each flashlight have Rayovac written on them? I have some with it on them and others that does not?
Stuart
The recall information says Rayovac is printed on the head of the flashlight.
