Rockler has come out with a new silicone glue keeper, which is pretty much what it sounds like. For simplicity, let’s just call it a glue cup.
First, there’s a lid, so that you can close up the pop and keep your glue (relatively) fresh – preventing it from drying out.

On the underside of the lid are grooves, for holding and supporting Rockler’s silicone glue sticks and applicator brushes.
The glue cup can hold about 2 oz. of wood glue, and has a slightly tapered and curved bottom to help keep the glue pooled up.
Rockler also says that you can pour wet glue cleanly back into its bottle. Wet glue washes away and dried glue peels off the silicone for final cleanup.
You only get the glue container, and not the brushes shown in the photo. Those are also new – you can get a 3pc set of “micro” glue brushes for $8.

I’ve been using Rockler’s silicone wood glue brushes for a couple of years now, and they’re pretty decent woodworking and glue-up accessories.

I bought their silicone tray back in 2018, and it’s okay; the tray was part of a 3pc set for $10. I think I’d like this glue cup better, mostly because of its higher walls and what Rockler describes as a tight fitting lid.
It’s certainly good to have options. There’s a strong chance that I’ll pick up this new glue cup and the new brushes with my next Rockler order, whenever that might be. It’s hard to imagine that this isn’t as handy and useful as it looks to be in the online product photos.
Rockler says that the lid can be used for “short term storage,” but it’s unclear as to how long that might be. I’d like to think that it can hold glue fresh enough for at least a lunch break, bring the kids to bed break, or maybe even “let’s call it a night and do more assembly work in the morning” type situations.
$10 for a silicone box with lid seems a tiny bit steep, but maybe Rockler will have promos, bundle deals, or other discounts in the future.

I saw this and put it out of my mind tuesday. now this again. I like it might buy it. I love the bigger glue brush, spatula, and the tray kit. love the tray.

I’ve seen this maybe 6 times in the past two weeks, and it wore me down.
My issue with the tray is that it’s great for small projects but I keep having to refill it for medium-large projects or change my workflow. 2 oz sounds like a lot more glue, and is more compatible with the lengthy breaks I sometimes have to take.

I have to give credit to Rockler for trying. My thoughts is that they have lots of items to fill their catalogue. Some seem like hits – while quite a few (to me anyway) look a bit amateurish. I get it that some folks would rather spend their time on other things rather than making jigs or fishing around for a paper cup for glue. I’m still in the old school using cheap acid brushes, toothpicks (or my fingertip) to apply and spread carpenter’s glue – but maybe someday I’ll try out the silicone stuff. Silicone brushes and cups do have the advantage of coming in different shapes/sizes and being reusable .

I do agree on some things but it’s nice to have the option when you’re a DIY’r without alot of free time.
For these in partiuclar I like that the glue cup is reuseable as are the brushs. I’ve even used my silicone tray for 2 part epoxy which really was a dare on my part but it still came off.
The brush is nice because they don’t have potential to leave strands behind. OH and I used to use my fingers too.

I’ve looked at this little box plenty of times, and I feel sure it will added when it need to hit the $39 free shipping level. I absolutely love most of the Rockler stuff. It’s true that some is hit or miss, but I want to “reward” them with my business just to encourage their continued innovation! Plus they use such a nice color of blue, haha.

I’ll reiterate. I did it as a dare to see if it would work. It might not come clean with every epoxy. just putting it out there.

This I definitely like. Not being an everyday project person, the ability to pour glue out and then put it back has merit that makes this worth the price. Easy cleanup is definitely a plus. I may have to buy some silicone pinch bowls for future projects too.

After an appalling mishap, I thought of making a glue pot with soft weighted bottom, so it wouldn’t be so easy to knock over. Maybe like a rubber tube filled with lead shot running around the perimeter of the base.

Rockler’s silicone products are the best, well thought out and the quality is good. Their mats are fantastic, I like their brushes better than other brands and the old glue tray was great. I’ll probably buy this one too.
If you haven’t switched to silicone wood glue accessories, you’re missing out. It makes life easier and you save money. Toothpicks and straws are still sometimes used but everything else is gone. Acid brushes are like $15 for 200, the Rockler silicone brush will outlast a few of those packs and costs $3…and you don’t get hairs in your projects.

I like the rockler glue brush for very small projects, but when I had one where I was gluing up lots of surface area, I found Bestt Liebco Tru Pro Frieze Nylon Loop Roller Cover to be amazing. I got a 4″ one. It put on exactly the right amount of glue much more quickly and consistently than any thing I’ve used. I pop it into water immediately and then wash it, since they are relatively expensive and I can’t find the small size right now. Clean up is very easy if you do it right away and it cleans thoroughly.
