There are many types of oscillating multi-tool blades for wood-cutting applications. Most are plunge-cutting with straight sawtooth edges, and there are also a number of curved blades that are useful for other types of cutting applications.
Rockwell’s new RW8958 precision wood-cutting blade is somewhat of a hybrid blade. It’s a plunge-cutting blade at the tip, half-circle cutting blade at the base, and there’s an unconventional inner-curved cutting edge that connects the two.

You don’t quite get the same performance benefits as a full semi-circular blade, but the new blade looks like it could be a useful jack-of-all-trades type of wood-cutting blade.
Rockwell says that the new blade saves time because you don’t have to change blades for different wood-cutting applications.
The blade is built with a universal interface that works with many brands of oscillating multi-tools.

Is it just me or does this scare anyone else. Not in the “cut your arm off sense,” but in the “opps didn’t mean to cut into that.” I see my self cutting into a floor or ceiling on accident.

Not being an oscillating tool expert, I was just wondering how effective this cutter would be cutting along its entire diverse cutting edge (without relocation) with an oscillation tool’s(fixed) oscillation pattern.

Would have been a better seller if it came out years ago. With the new osc tools having quick change systems I don’t see a real need for this.

I don’t see why not. Dewalt and Rockwell blades are the only ones that will work with Dewalt’s Quick-Change blade holder. Others require use of a hex screw and Allen wrench.

A little off topic, but, I really don’t see why you all get so exited about these oscillating tools. I have yet to come across a situation where I thought to myself: “Hey, I wish I had one of those fancy oscillators to cut this, it would be so much faster and easier”. Never. Not once since Fein invented them decades ago. If I’m missing something, please let me know, I just don’t get it.

A multitool replaced about 10 of my other tools. I have no need for them now that I have one of these. I can use this in almost every application.

Steve, I have owned and oscillating tool for at least 10 years and use it regularly. When you need it, it really saves alot of time. Can other tools be used alone or in combination? Yes, sometimes. But, again, it is often more time consuming.
Now, for some real examples.
– Hanging pegboard in the workshop and cutting out holes for the electrical outlets. Very fast, precise and easy.
– Outdoor hose sillcock froze and split. Had to cut the copper pipe precisely between the wall studs to get on a Sharkbite fitting and then the new hose sillcock. Very fast, precise and easy.
– Replaced carpeting in the hallway with 3/4″ hardwood flooring. Cutting the jams down to fit the flooring under. Very fast, precise and easy.
– Installing flush mount Infinity speakers. Aesthetically, they had to be placed without regards to what was behind the drywall. Had to cut both the drywall and, were required, the studs and any cross-bracing. Easy and quick.
– Repairing some termite damage. Was able to cleanly remove the damaged area. Cutting studs precisely around routed wiring and pipes. Very quick with limited risk of unwanted damage. Made nice square cuts, making fitting replacement materials easier.
– Scraping glue off of removed flooring. Scraper blade makes quick work of scraping tasks.
– Sanding. Used both the triangular sanding pads and carbide rasps to remove paint, rust and corrosion, and other finishes in difficult areas not suitable for other sander configurations.
Those are some of my personal uses that come to mind from the recent past.
It is one of those tools you do not think you really need. But, realize how many things you can use it for after you have one. It changes the way you look at solving the problem. Like owning a heat gun. Once you got one, you find all kind of new uses for it.
