Rockwell RK9003 Jawhorse Work Clamp

Marsha wrote in to tell us that the Rockwell JawHorse, model RK9003, is on sale at Amazon for $99. They mention that it’s on sale today, but I don’t see any indication that this is just a one-day or limited time deal.

This deal typically comes around every holiday season, and ends after undisclosed timing or when a certain number of units are sold out.

If this is your first time hearing about the Rockwell JawHorse, there are a few things you should know.

It’s a portable work clamp. This model’s jaws have a clamping range of up to 37″, and it can support up to 600 lbs. You can exert a clamping force of up to 2,200 lbs.

Hands-free clamping. You need a free hand to lock or unlock the JawHorse, but clamping pressure is applied via a foot-operated level.

It’s “portable.” This is more of a folding work-holding station that a portable one.  It weighs around 43 lbs, and can be carried or rolled around. Its weight makes it sturdy in use, but also something that I don’t really want to carry or roll around.

I’ve tested multiple JawHorses, and none of them roll around as easy as it looks in their product videos. You’ve got to go slow, whether on uneven ground, an inclined driveway. or when a curb is involved. I’ve got an RK2003 that I’ve been using for some time (thank you, Rockwell!), and 9 time out of 10 I’ll carry it, even in situations I could or should roll it.

Accessories? There used to be some neat JawHorse accessories, but most seem to have been discontinued or are otherwise extremely difficult to find. But you can always build your own and clamp it in the JawHorse.

$99 is a great price. The JawHorse typically retails for around $150. This $99 price comes around at least 2 times a year, and every time it does it’s a notable deal.

I got a couple at Lowe’s when they were on clearance a couple of years ago. Paid under $150 for both, and they are great for projects. Mine currently support my kitchen table. Plans to buy a fixer upper fell through and I’m currently in an apartment. So I decided to make maximum use of my tools while still keeping them close at hand. Two pieces of shelving screwed together and clamped in the two Jawhorses make a perfect table/lightweight work bench, and if I need one or both Jawhorses, it takes under a minute to get them.

Hmm, I wonder if Amazon’s aim was to match the price, or if the JawHorse is on sale at both places.

11 in stock at my nearest store.

I’d still order from Amazon though. These are packaged fairly well, and my Prime subscription would get it to me sooner than I can clear out the truck and make my way to the nearest Lowes a half hour away.

Go thru smile.amazon.com too to support charity of your choice. My charity got just over $100 from smiles this quarter – for a small non-profit every dollar counts!!!
