Rockwell has just announced the SoniShear, an attachment for their popular SoniCrafter oscillating multi-tool. The SoniShear is incredibly user-friendly, and is designed to make effortless and precise cuts in many different materials.
We think that this new accessory is going to sell very, very well, for several reasons. Most notably, we imagine that the SoniCrafter SoniShear would excel at repetitive tasks. Not only would it help reduce operator hand fatigue, it should also be able to provide highly consistent results as well.

Curved cuts? Contours? Straight cuts? No problem! We’ve tried making curved cuts in plastic sheeting before with manual shears (actually they were tin snips), and it was far from pretty. A SoniShear probably would have came in handy for that project.
The SoniShear is constructed from high impact composites and has hardened steel cutters. The shear operates at up to 20,000 strokes per minute, and can cut materials as thick as 5/16″, depending on the material.
The RW9247 SoniShear attachment accessory for corded Sonicrafters is priced quite reasonably at $25, which isn’t much costlier than a pair of good general purpose shears. While it hasn’t yet hit stores, the SoniShear will soon be available at Amazon, and select local retailers.

That’s an interesting idea for an attachment. I have a cheap generic oscillating multitool. It vibrates like crazy. I’m not sure how much smoother the rockwell is, but I wonder how precise the cuts can be with a vibrating tool.

The SoniCrafter seems to be a decent tool. I haven’t tried one out (yet) but am told that it’s fairly easy to control. As such, it *should* make reasonably precise cuts. Once the attachment makes its way to stores, it probably won’t be long until we start seeing user feedback. This might be one of those accessories that every SoniCrafter user will want to try. Maybe it will even be bundled into certain tool set combos eventually.

Some of us have bad arthritis but refuse to let it get in their way, whippersnapper. Not sure what you mean by “girly man” but one of the guys in our retired firefighter company get-together makes a great quiche. Hope you will catch up. Turns out firefighting has been a good opportunity for both genders to appreciate what is how to work as a team. Not all teams work split the work up exactly the same, but with good training and mutual respect our vollies git her done.

Typically I will use a utility knife to open such plastic clamshell packages, but there are times when I wish I had power shears to do the job for me.
I imagine that cutting through plastic packing will be this attachment’s most popular application.
This morning I had to cut a sheet of rubber gasket material; my cuts were decent enough, but a SoniShear would have definitely made the job a bit easier.
