Ryobi 18V P882 Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit

Over at Home Depot, they dropped the price on this Ryobi 18V One+ cordless drill and impact driver combo kit to just $99.

These aren’t the latest-and-greatest 18V tools on the market, but they’re capable tools that are priced at a great bargain. There are a lot of great tools in the Ryobi One+ lineup, and this kit, which comes with (2) Li-ion batteries and a charger, helps provide for less expensive entry and access to those other tools.

It’s uncertain as how powerful the drill/driver is, but until I find more details, I’m guessing it’s in the ~325 in-lbs range – but this is only a guess so don’t hold me to this. The impact driver delivers 1500 in-lbs of maximum torque, which is on par with other brands’ compact 18V-class impact drivers.

The impact driver in this kit seems to be the same as in Home Depot’s $59 Ryobi impact driver deal, but for the extra $40 it comes with an extra battery, a regular charger (as opposed to the slow charger), and a drill/driver,

Seems like a great deal at $99, and one that probably won’t last long. This will probably be a Black Friday doorbuster as in previous years, so maybe Home Depot stores are holding back on some inventory.

I’m not sure which of these posts I commented on before, and it obviously wasn’t this one, but I need to retract my statement, at least partially. I said the Ryobi impact drivers are incredible. Since then I have used this one, which my brother-in-law picked up when he got to a job site and discovered that one of his employees had borrowed his Ridgid kit from his truck. He ran out and grabbed the cheapest kit to get him through the day. I have the P236 impact driver (the one with the 3 led lights and the one-hand chuck) and it ROCKS. The one featured here with the basic chuck that requires two hands to hold the tool, release the chuck, and swap the bits, and no led light, SUCKS. It feels cheap and has roughly half the power of my good one.

We were driving six inch screws through seamless metal roof panels, ice & water shield, 3″ polyisocyanurate insulation panels, the old asphalt shingles, and sheathing when we did my sister’s roof. My driver failed on just two screws across the entire roof and I used my brother’s M18 brushless to finish those. But my brother-in-law’s cheaper Ryobi failed nearly every time. We ended up having him start them and I followed up to finish. I was really surprised and disappointed. The power of that thing is comparable to my M12 brushed driver.

Anyway, I had to share that even if it wasn’t on the right post. I feel better now, but still wonder if my ringing endorsement may have encouraged someone else to buy this cheap one thinking it was great. 🙁
