Ryobi 18V One+ Impact Driver “Special Buy” – Could this be a 2014 Black Friday Deal?

Ryobi 18V Impact Driver Special Buy

My best impact driver recommendations roundup just went up this week, but I have already started looking to see which models should or could be considered for the next refresh of that review.

Over at Home Depot, I found a new Ryobi 18V One+ impact driver kit, for just $59.

Yes, that’s $59 for a Ryobi impact driver, a 1.3Ah Li-ion battery (I knew my cordless power tool battery specs efforts would come in handy!), and a basic wall charger.

This SCREAMS “Black Friday/winter holiday deal.”

The “special buy” combo isn’t available for purchase yet. It’s listed as “out of stock online.” Along with zero user reviews, this typically means “coming soon.”

Update: This kit is now available for purchase (as of 11/6/14).

A quick look at the specs shows that the special buy Ryobi impact can deliver up to 1500 in-lbs of torque, which is great for an 18V impact driver, let alone a budget model.

It comes with a smallish capacity battery (P102, 1.3Ah) and a basic charger (P119) that, according to the online product manual, charges battery packs in as little as 8 hours.

Still, it’s just $59.

Currently, the Ryobi 18V One+ P236 impact driver is priced at $49 (discounted from $69) for just the bare tool. There must be a difference between the P236 and the one included in this special buy, as the P236 delivers up to 1600 in-lbs of torque and the special buy delivers up to 1500 in-lbs.

The same exact image is used for both tools, which doesn’t really mean much. It could just be the Home Depot web team reusing images until product photos of the new impact driver are made available. Or maybe the new special buy is mostly the same tool but with a less powerful and cheaper motor.

In any case, this will be an interesting deal to keep an eye on.

Buy Now(via Home Depot)

There are lots of good arguments for and against deals like this. For me, this is one of those deals that I would initially show a lot of interest in, before realizing that I would rather buy a regular kit over a “special buy.”

I own this exact model and I love it. When I was doing metal roofing the guys with their Makitas gave me crap about using Ryobi until they learned that my Ryobi could drive screws that their Makitas couldn’t. From then on they turned to me whenever they had an odd situation, like a particularly tough purlin and their drivers couldn’t cut it. In retrospect I wish I’d had the foresight to photograph every structure that driver has helped build. Ryobi would love those visuals along with my testimonial.

I picked up the extended service plan when I got it since I knew I would be using it heavily and it’s a budget model, but it looks like it will outlive that service plan.

My only complaint is that the led lightsonly illuminate when the trigger is being pressed. A delay timer would make the lights far more useful.

I agree completely about the light! That’s one of the only bad things about this impact that I can think of.

This really is a fantastic little tool, specially for the price

I’ve already got a bunch of Ryobi One+ stuff here at the Chuchundra mansion, so this would be a no brainer pickup for me.

This kit includes the older P234 impact driver. This explains the difference in specs (lower torque and RPM) and price when compared to the P236. Also, the P234 does not have LEDs.

P236 is the designation for last years model and this years. The difference is in the quick release, the new one has silver chuck receptor, the old one is black.

I received the Ryobi 18v p235 impact driver & cordless drill combo for Christmas last year. I’m impressed with the impact driver when I’m helping with garage doors. The drill is strong also so I give my kit a 5 out of 5 stars.
