Skil 360 Quick Select

Yesterday’s post about Bosch’s new cordless glue pen had me wondering whether any recent Bosch UK DIYer tools were given the Skil color change treatment. Well wouldn’t you know, the Bosch auto-loading cordless screwdriver will soon be available in the USA as the Skil 360 Quick Select.

The 360 Quick Select is a 4-Volt (Max) 1.5Ah Li-ion screwdriver that features an illuminated 12-bit cartridge. The bit carousel rotates a full 360° so that you can quickly select the bit you need for your DIY screw and fastener driving tasks.

While not as sharp looking as the Worx semi-automatic screwdriver, the 360 Quick Select features a higher capacity screwdriver bit carousel and it charges via micro USB port.

Let me say that again – the screwdriver can be charged via USB!

The driver features an offset 1/4″ bit holder for improved access and easier working inside of corners. It also sports a built-in Lithium ion battery that remains charged for up to 18 months, and a low battery indicator light tells when you to head back to the charger.

The street price is $49 and the driver is expected to hit stores by May 1st. Model number is 2356-01.

An on-board bit carousel and USB battery charging for less than $50? Can you say Father’s Day bestseller?

Seems that power tools with USB chargers are becoming more and more popular. Sounds as if this is a good idea, but I wonder how practical this would be if your outside and without means of USB connection?

Between yesterday’s Bosch glue gun and this cordless screwdriver, that’s a total of two USB-charged devices that I’m aware of.

I probably wouldn’t plug this into my computer – especially not a laptop which has current-limited USB ports.

USB charging is becoming more available these days, but there have been AC to USB adapters for a couple of years now. I picked up two Craftsman ones a few years back and if you go to Amazon or any online retailer and type in USB charger several name-brand and off-brand products come up right away.

I’ve installed a few USB outlets in my house:

As silly as it sounds, I wonder if they’re going to introduce something along the lines of an 8-volt max lithium ion tool. I remember back in the day using a Dewalt 7.2-volt NiCad battery powered screwdriver, I could easily see them moving to a 7.6-volt nominal/8-volt max platform for smaller stuff like this.
