Lighted pliers I can understand, but a combination pocket knife and flashlight? SOG’s new Blade Light is just that – a folding knife with built-in 6-LED flashlight. While the design looks awfully gimmicky, it seems to be backed up with reasonably good specs.
The knife blade is 3.9″ long and is made from SCr18MoV stainless steel with a Rockwell hardness of 58-60. The handle is glass-reinforced nylon, and the knife is secured via a liner lock.

Max output for the 6-LED flashlight is 34-37 lumens, which isn’t very bright but should suffice for casual lighting needs. Run time is about 260 minutes off of 2x AAA batteries. The flashlight circuitry is very well sealed with an IPX-7 (IP code?) waterproof rating.
SOG is calling their Blade Light a game changer. Personally, I have no need for a lighted knife and see it as too much of a compromise, but then again I don’t hunt and am quite picky about the flashlights I carry. The Blade Light flashlight is designed to fit into the knife body and the knife to accommodate the flashlight components and batteries, making everything seemingly bulkier than carrying two separate tools.
There is also a fixed blade version of the Blade Light, featuring a 5.7″ blade, 25-lumen output, 175 minute run time via 1x AA battery, Kydex sheath, and glass-reinforced nylon handle.
MSRPs are $85 for the folding knife and $115 for the fixed blade knife.

So I take it the blades pointed at you when the flashlights in use ? Am I the only clumsy person that sees a problem with that ?

The blade deploys in the direction of the flashlight and whatever it is you’re cutting. Both functions can be used independently or together.

I can see where it could be a nice feature in certain situations, but as an EDC knife, not for me personally. I’d rather have as slim a knife as I can, and a separate flashlight.
For dressing out game, in the dark, it may be a great help. More than once, I had to finish with a mini-Maglite in my teeth. If the LEDs were bright enough, it could be useful in that venture.

I like SOG knives, but the design could use some work on this one. Tool Logic has a much better design. Plus their flashlight is removable, and has a magnetic base so you can attach it to something and use it hands free. Not to mention you can find it online for about 1/3 of the price SOG is asking. http://www.toollogic.com/knives.html

Got my Sog blade light today disappointed it came with no button to activate the light I hope they will send me one.
