Stahlwille Advent Tool Calendar 2024 in Tool Box Packaging

The Stahlwille Advent Calendar for 2024 just hit USA retailers, and its packaging is pretty awesome – it’s styled after one of their tool chests, complete with drawers and pegboard sides.

There’s even a worktop, which is really a small FSC-certified wood cutting board.

If you’re into Advent Calendars, Stahwille packages everything into individually numbered boxes. That’s right, the packaging has actually drawers.

I normally just rip into these things, treating them as limited time tool sets. But this one – it looks like you might be able to reuse the (cardboard?) tool box packaging.

When everything is revealed, you get a compact tool set and a case to store it all in. The case has extra room and socket holders, allowing for expansion.

In all, you get a compact 1/4″ ratchet, ratcheting 1/4″ hex bit screwdriver, sockets, screwdriver bits, 1/4″ drive extension, and 2 socket storage rails.

Here’s the full tool list:

  • 1/4″ square drive fine-tooth ratchet
  • Ratcheting bit holder with bit magazine
  • 1/4″ square drive extension
  • (2) 1/4″ drive plastic socket rails
  • 1/4″ hex screwdriver bits: T10, T15, T20, T25, T27, T30, T40
  • 1/4″ square drive hex bit holder
  • 1/4″ hex to 1/4″ square drive adapter
  • 1/4″ drive Phillips #2 bit socket
  • 1/4″ drive 0.8 x 4 mm slotted bit socket
  • 1/4″ drive 6pt sockets: 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14 mm
  • Zippered nylon softcase

As mentioned, you also get a small wood cutting board.

Price: $159.99

Looking to fill the empty pegs in the advent calendar? Stahlwille has a supplementary bit socket set for just that purpose.

KC Tool also has the Hazet 2024 Advent calendar available for backorder:

Looking for other 2024 Advent calendars – I see one from Gedore – but availability seems to be limited to EU vendors – right now. KC Tool also has last year’s advent calendar from Felo – but I don’t see one listed anywhere for 2024.

The cardboard tool chest is a very cool idea. That’s a novel twist on the traditional design of one small compartment to open each day.

It’s also neat that they offer the expansion pack, I really like that idea because many of these Advent tool sets feel like they’re more of a novelty gift rather than something that is really practical. Being able to expand the set and make it more complete makes a lot of sense to me. But the choice of tools to include in the expansion set seems a bit odd. I’d much rather have the screwdriver bits as 1/4 hex shank instead of 1/4 square drive, and fill up the rail with a 1/4 drive universal joint, a 1/4 square to 1/4 hex adapter, and some fractional sockets.

That is awesome! Almost too nice – it would make me want to keep the box, but I’m not sure what use it would be.

Maybe a temporary parts organizer? You would have a bunch of tiny boxes inside…

Not sturdy enough for regular use obviously, but it came to mind since I’m restoring a 1976 Ford Courier at the moment and I have gobs of small ziplocks of various fasteners. I’m not digging around in those bags like I do my parts organizers – things just sit, labelled in the bags, until I’m ready to put them back on.

Wait, is the main box (the black and gray with drawers) actually cardboard? It doesn’t look like that to my eyes, either in these photos or on the KCtool website.
I see the cardboard under the cutting board, and the small numbered boxes, but the main box seems metal or plastic.

Did. Doesn’t help me (don’t rat me out to DOT).
