Over at Amazon, they have fresh deals on select Streamlight LED flashlights, including the popular and rarely discounted MicroStream.
The MicroStream is a bright and very pocketable AAA LED flashlight. It’s not as large as a penlight, but also not as small as a keychain flashlight.

I bought one in June, for long-term review purposes, for $17. Right now, it’s on sale for $13.25.
If you’re thinking whether you should buy one, the answer is YES.
Amazon also has the red-body Streamlight Stylus Pro on sale right now, for $15.43.
The Stylus Pro, a 2xAAA LED flashlight, is typically priced at ~$19 and up. Different colors go on sale every so often, and I believe this is the first time I’ve seen the red one at a discount.

Again, if you are thinking about whether this is a good deal and if you should buy one, the answer is a definitive YES here too.
Streamlight’s Siege LED lantern is also on sale, for $28.30. I bought one a few years ago, and it’s served me well on occasion, especially the red light mode. Also of note, it is waterproof with an IPX7 rating.
I use this as an emergency light, and the red light comes in handy a few times a year when I take my telescope out. The red light helps to preserve night vision and keeps me from tripping over anything.
There are a couple more Streamlight LED flashlights on sale today.

Between the olight sale and a few other light purchases (d4v2, kr4, wizard pro nichia, zebralight, etc…) my light budget is done for. For now….
Yet here my finger hovers over the buy now button…

I’m in for the smaller one. I like how it mounts to the bill of your hat. Could have used that yesterday.
John
Could have used that yesterday when spelunking in my crawl space. Can’t seem to find my headlamp right now. So the clip is reversible then?
Frank D
The clip forms a Z with the light, so can be used both ways, to clip into a pocket or onto another surface.

Funny, when I hit the link it opened in Amazon and it said I bought one last year on December 12. Next year it will say I bought 2! Ive used it frequently the past year very frequently. It’s been drop tested; a LOT! I have been really impressed with this light. I’m on the fence with the micro stream as I just bought the olight i3T EOS which looks to be the micro streams fraternal twin. This light is really amazing….save the short battery life when using the bright mode(21 min) I think. I can’t believe how bright it is for 1 AAA battery. It’s has a soft uniform beam that lights your work perfectly without glare, dark shadows and such. I didn’t know what to think of the clip at first but it is incredibly useful. I’ve never carried an EDC flashlight but I do now. It clips perfectly over my front pocket and I can’t even tell it’s there. It’s much brighter than the microstream (180 vs 45) so I’m hesitant pull the trigger.

The i3T has become my EDC as well. I carry a pocket knife in my front right pocket, my phone in my front left, and the i3T is small enough it fits right next to my wallet in my back pocket. I swap out eneloop rechargable batteries, so the low life doesn’t bother me.
Stuart
Get both? =)
It’s a hard choice. The i3T is indeed brighter than the MicroStream, but the MicroStream is by no means a dim or useless flashlight.
The i3T also costs quite a bit more, and so users unsure as to what their exact needs and wants might go with the MicroStream for its lower risk if it turns out they prefer something different.
I bought both and if I had to choose, it would be the… [sorry, the radio is breaking up].

Ha! I bet I can guess. I lucked out on the olight. On Dec 1st the price was 15.95 on Amazon so I took a chance

I can’t remember where I recently read this (maybe amazon reviews), but one user said they used EBL rechargeables and got significantly longer runtimes in the i3t. I happened to have both sitting on my desk, and so I just checked it out — I got a 55 minutes on high from an EBL 1100 mAh AAA — more than double what I’ve been getting from other batts. Now, I don’t know if it was outputting the full 150 lumens, but even at the end of the cycle, it was perceptually close to the stock alkaline battery that I popped in for comparison.

I’ve got several of the MicroStreams and use them a lot. They come with a lanyard, and since I seem to use them mostly in my mouth (then stuffed in a shirt pocket), they’re perfect for my needs. I did just get an Olight i3E (they’re AAA rather than the MicroStream’s AA) and might have ended up with a bunch of them instead had timing been different.
BTW, I’ve given up Alkaline batteries and go now either Eneloop or Lithium, done with that corrosion.
Wayne R.
No, wait, they’re both AAA, but the Olight’s overall a lot smaller.
Shane
.1” isn’t a lot..length wise. Are you talking about the diameter?
Wayne R.
I have them both side-by-side here, and the MicroStream is almost 3.5″ long versus the i3E’s 2.375″. MicroStream’s diameter is about 0.675 and the i3E is about 0.5″. The MicroStream is 1.1 oz or 34g, and the i3E is 0.5 oz. or 14g.
So, a fairly significant diff in side-by-side dimensions, though in use I would not really care.
And the i3E is a couple of dollars less. The MicroStream does have a end-cap-button, clip & lanyard where the 13E is a twist to activate, no clip or lanyard (though it has a ring for one), both are one-mode.
Both are great lights to me.
Stuart
The i3e is a completely different style of light though; it doesn’t have a pocket clip (as you mentioned) and is instead designed for keychain-carry.
Shane
Mine has that identical pocket clip. It’s length is 3.5” with a bezel diameter of .59”. Different model maybe? I3T EOS is what I have https://www.amazon.com/Olight-I3T-EOS-Lumens-Dual-Output/dp/B07DLRK7Q5

However, I’ve completely hijacked this post. My bad. I can attest to the stream light stylus pro as this is my second one. My brother-in-law is really into hunting and he loves the streamlight lights. Until last year I’ve always been one of those Black Friday flashlight buying kind of guys and because I have like three of the Milwaukee red lithium lights. I thought “what makes these worth the extra cost?” Now I can see the difference in quality and build. I don’t have to shake these lights from time to time to get the bulb back on!
Wayne R.
We have both on lanyards, so, equivalent here.

This was my daily carry for a few years before I switched to the rechargeable version.
The AAA version is very energy-efficient though.
Mike (the other one)
I keep the single AAA version in my pocket almost every day. It’s my backup light, and comes in handy when my main light is too bright.
Matt
Big fan of the MicroStream, both the AAA version and the USB-rechargeable version. Size-wise you really don’t want anything smaller, and for automotive use I actually prefer the 2xAA or 2xAAA stylus versions just to give you a little more to work with. But for pocket EDC carry, especially now that the days are short, the MicroStream is 1000x better than your phone. Both mine have found their way into the washing machine and come out unscathed. (and shiny!)

I’ve been holding out for the Streamlight Macrostream. Its a bit bigger than the Microstream, rechargeable and up to 500 lumens. It’s a fairly new release but for some reason, it doesn’t seem to be available in many places. If you can find it In stock somewhere it’ll set you back around 50 – $60…..which seems extremely high compared to what you could get for the same money in an Olight or Fenix.

After a couple of minutes searching, I can see the model number for replacement batteries, but cannot find any details on the battery style/size, which suggest it’s proprietary.
The capacity is also low – 350 mAh. While this can’t be compared to AA or AAA capacities since the voltage is higher, there are plenty of flashlights that take 16340 (RC123A) or 14500 (AA) sized batteries.
The MacroStream seems decent, but a little less flexible.
I just tested an Olight mini Perun. It comes with their specialized cells for magnetic charging, but can work with other brands’ rechargeable cells as well. When using non-customized cells, you just can’t use magnetic tailcap charging.
Streamlight has a large distributor base, and I’m sure they make certain to have plenty of replacement cells available through their network.

I love my Streamlight flashlights. I just changed jobs (yay! no more microsoft crap!) and now I’m a courier – and started during peak season so I’m doing 2-3 hours in the dark. I’ve been using my tlr-1 hpl weaponlight to put a bright spot on house numbers, just ordered a Polytac HP that looks like it’s got the same led and reflector. I’ve got a Stylus and two of the Protac XL 2. Great flashlights.
