There are some new tool deals of the days and sales events. Nothing stands out as spectacular, but hopefully some of you can save a few bucks on tools you were looking to buy.
Home Depot Tool Deals of the Day – Today’s specials feature a selection of Milwaukee M18 cordless power tool combo kits, M12 tool bundles, special bundles, Dewalt cordless bundles, accessories, as well as Ridgid and Ryobi offerings.
Some of the deals might be worth it for the batteries, such as a Gen 3 M18 Fuel kit with (3) 5.0Ah batteries. (The new Gen 4 drills were recently announced and are coming out in August.)

Lowe’s Tool Deals of the Day – Buy the special-buy Dewalt 20V Max combo kit, get a free tool, and save 30% on select Craftsman mechanics tool sets.
The Craftsman promo includes a 308pc tool set and a 34pc drive tool accessory set that could be interesting. Lowe’s Dewalt promo features their budget brushless hammer drill and impact driver, plus a Lowe’s-specific Dewalt “Site-Ready” tool bag.
Olight Summer Sale – Olight’s latest flashlight and lighting gear flash sale is set to run 7/11 at 8pm ET thru 7/15. There are some interesting new editions – an easily removed mini keychain light, stainless steel Baton 3, and stainless steel i3T.

Yes! I too saw this and while I’ve been very pleased with the existing single battery version, especially with the 12AH battery attached, I’m certainly curious how this double battery version will improve upon my single battery version.
BTW I hope they’ve optimized the new so there’s no real need for the 12AH boat anchors.

It is still an HO battery optimized tool, so at the very least I would want to use 2x 6.0Ah HO batteries. That still gives you the same 216 Wh of juice as a single 12.0Ah, but running at 36v with 25% more cells it should run cooler and with more power, but slightly heavier and less runtime (assumption).
You could run it with 2x 3.0Ah HO batteries, but runtime would suffer.

It’s optimized for High Output XC and HD, meaning HO 6Ah and up.
HO CP, like the 3Ah, deliver standard XC-like performance, such as XC 5Ah.
Meaning, it’s ideally equipped with 2x HO XC 6Ah or higher capacity.
12Ah would deliver max runtime, but probably not without compromises with respect to weight or balance.

Touche, I did not catch the “XC and HD” part in the press release. On some of their official imagery it simply states “Optimized For High Output”.

Seems interesting. Optimized for HO XC and HD batteries, and shown in official images with HO XC 6Ah. You can probably use it with smaller batteries, but perhaps not at max performance or thermal endurance.

Combo deals that require a drill or impact driver purchase are very frustrating!!! I have a drill! I have 2 already…that’s 1 more than I need! (I bought the 12v lion drill back when 18v drills were huge and heavy, now my 20v atomic is smaller and almost as light) I need all the other cordless tools.
Come on Lowes/HomeDepot/DeWalt…give deals on the other tools. Don’t make me buy a drill. I don’t want to buy something only to have it either collect dust or have me ask around my friends, all of which have their own drills as well, if they want another one.
How many people don’t own a drill? Give a good combo deal without a drill and I’d be very tempted to buy things I don’t really need.

Agreed, those deals are great for new tool buyers but once you’re already bought into a system then they are frustrating. I remember coming across some killer (price-wise) deals before Xmas last year but I didn’t end up buying any of them because half or more of the tools in the set were things I already had.
I find that when you’re already well into a system the best deals are the “buy more save more” specials they sometimes run, or the flatdiscounts that are good for any item in stock. Many power tools that aren’t the super-common things like circ saws, drills, impact drivers, etc, rarely go on sale. You can nearly always get a deal on whatever drill you want, but a nibbler? rat-tail grinder? caulk gun? Not so often.

Extra chargers is like getting extra keyboards and mice with a new desktop PC….after you already have a nice set from your previous machine.
After a while, it’s just e-waste. Whereas with a mobile device (which has a MUCH higher profit margin), they don’t include a cable & charger (far cheaper add-ins).
Unlike a bulky keyboard or mouse, a spare cable & charger can be useful in a pinch — emergency bag, car, put it in another room, etc. And they don’t take up as much space for storage either. But nope, cannot have that. “We’re being green! …for the little things. Don’t ask us about the big things. shh.”

I bought a pair of the 10″ Speedgrip pliers the other day. I’m a bit of a Channellock fan, so I own all the traditional versions in each size – i.e. it’s not like I needed the Speedgrips. Still, I found a deal and wanted to try them.
Not bad! I fondled them in the store before, but I was on the fence. The handles seem a little funky and overcomplicated compared to what I’m used to. The button is consistent and the adjustments precise. I really like the jaw serration pattern – I haven’t used them enough to give a final review, but they are sharp and I like that they aren’t just straight like the 420s.
I haven’t decided if they’re worth the premium over the regular versions compared to paying even more for Knipex cobras (at the price I paid the Speedgrips were certainly a great deal).
I still don’t understand why they made the handles skinnier on the part that touches your fingers than the squeezing direction. I understand that’s where strength is required, but the regular pliers are the other way around and aren’t weak.
It’s mostly a visual weirdness though – they feel comfortable in my hand.

I’m interested in the Ridgid 18v cut off tool. Does anyone have any experience with it and has anyone seen a dust collection attachment for it? I saw the M12 and DeWalt versions have one so I’m wondering if I could get one of those or a generic one to fit.

Anyone buy the M12 kit with 1.5ah batteries and wish they had larger batteries or M12 Fuel instead? I like the small form factor for light-duty household stuff.

The unfortunate fact of the matter is that many/most users tend to look at price before battery size.
Tool users who want higher capacity batteries can buy them separately or later on.
Shoppers who want a lower price might buy competing brands’ kits instead.

For light duty household stuff 1,5 is usually fine in my experience. They will last a while in a drill or driver as long as your not doing some thing like repeatedly using a hole saw. I travel with a 1,5 battery and drill for work and (electrical equipment company) and never really have an issue. If you have 2 batteries I would think you’d be fine.

Hmmm.I will admit I am glad to see this product, but I want an MX based backpack blower which is much stronger in CFM and mph. Echo makes monster blowers. I miss my Tanaka. All this battery stuff is weaksauce.

Lowes has a bunch of Metabo HPT things on sale. Several drill kits and impact driver kits for $99.00. If you go in store some of the multivolt line is on clearance in store only. I picked up a multi volt hammer drill kit for $111 down from $279. The store also had a couple of multi volt triple hammer driver kits for the same price. They also have a promotion to get a free bare tool when you buy a multivolt battery kit ( it looks like all the bare tools are saws). I needed a hammer drill and while I’m not on the Metabo battery system it was too good a deal to pass up.
They also have a Dewalt promo where you buy a 12V drill driver combo kit you can pick a free bare 12V tool.
