Today I learned that the Hyper Tough pry bars at Walmart are made in the USA. Did you know that, or are you as surprised as I am?
These look a lot like Wilde steel cap pry bars to me, but there are other brands that could be making these for Hyper Tough and Walmart.
Apparently these have been available for a while.

Walmart has these USA-made pry bars in a couple of sizes, and also a 3pc set.
Are we sure they’re made in the USA?

It sure looks like it. Hold on. *ENHANCE*

Made in USA.
Here are all of the sizes and styles from the same product family, along with Walmart purchase links and their prices as of the time of this posting:
- Hyper Tough 3pc Set ($22.97)
- 17″ Pry Bar ($10.48)
- 25″ Pry Bar ($14.88)
- 36″ Pry Bar ($22.88)
My Wilde and older Wilde-made Craftsman pry bars are still going strong, but these look good.

The larger sizes appear to only be available for in-store pickup or local store delivery, but the 3pc set and 17″ pry bars are available for pickup or regular shipping.

This isn’t the first surprise we’ve seen from Walmart and Hyper Tough – I posted about their $35 multi-head cordless drill/driver kit earlier this year.
Dear Walmart Hyper Tough Brand Manager,
i) keep it up and more, please!, and ii) are there any more surprises or hidden gems we’d be excited to learn about?!
fred
At least some (if not all) Hyper Tough pry bars bear UPC’s starting with 085432.
That denotes Wilde Tool as the OEM
HG Forage
Known for years. Recently switched to black handles from red. Pretty sure they are manufactured by Wilde as were the craftsman of yesteryear.
Eric
Yeah, been that way for a long time.

I agree its nice to see tools made in the USA but this is honestly like really low hanging fruit here… Its literally a piece of bar stock with a plastic handle. If you told me the hyper tough drill and impact were USA made I think itd be alot more news worthy.
Stuart
True, but that didn’t stop Sears from moving to a different overseas supplier back when they still owned the Craftsman brand. https://14cyiuhvcgv.com/fyi-craftsman-pry-bars-now-made-in-taiwan/%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E
Western Forge closed. Armstrong Tools closed. International (tool boxes) closed. Vaughan was just bought out, and according to rumors they were on the brink of bankruptcy and closure.
In my experience, Wilde pry bars are excellent. I don’t know their current standing, but I do know that a lot of former Sears-Craftsman suppliers never recovered from Sears’ gradual departure from USA manufacturing sources.
I was excited to learn that Hyper Tough pry bars were made here, presumably by Wilde, and felt compelled to share. If not picked, low-hanging fruit will fall to the ground and rot.

Or as my father said when I windged about low hanging fruit: it’s still fruit and better than no fruit.
CMF
So true, it may be bar stock and a plastic handle, but then why are the vast majority sold everywhere not MIUSA?
So for anyone not congratulating Walmart, they can buy the myriad of cheap “fruit” that has fallen off the tree and rotting on the ground.

While true ive used both super cheap and better versions of other basic prying tools like flat bars and cats paws and there is significant difference. The hardening or steel quality being the biggest

Word. After years of only using cheap pry bars, I had assumed flexing is a given, like death and tax. Until I somehow got a good one with virtually no flex. It changed my view on expensive tools.

I think it’s noteworthy because once upon a time there were a lot of domestic products in Walmart, but they helped spearhead the charge offshore and it proved *extremely* lucrative given the absolute brick and mortar mammoth that it is today. And now they’ve turned it back around even if just a little bit. Walmart wasn’t the place for domestic tools for a long time, but now there’s some options, and Walmart is everywhere and the prices on these bars are very agreeable which makes for some great accessibility.

Great find. About half the price of the Husky set. I like to have a couple of tool sets pre staged – so I can grab and go. I don’t have to worry if someone took something out and didn’t put it back.

Nice contract for Wilde. Picked up the prybar set last month. Worth every penny. About same quality as my Craftsman prybar set. Literally the only tools at the Walmart tool aisle worth buying other than the Channellocks.

Yep, have had the set for maybe 3 years and they are solid. Def USA made. Getting them was a little bit of a fiasco as the Walmart site cancelled on me once, but did local pickup on the second attempt and it was totally worth it. Would buy them again in a heartbeat.

Would also add that the 36″ is a BEAST! It doesn’t get used much but when it comes out, something is going to move. 🙂

Thanks. I too have the 3 US made piece set from a different vendor and this 3’ version looks very useful in the right situation.

I checked out the 3-piece set on Walmart’s site, but it doesn’t say what sizes are included in that set. Does anyone know? Thx
Dave
I was curious too and found this in one of the product reviews: The 3 lengths of 3 1/2, 7 1/2 and 12 inches

Nice to see that they are bringing out great tools. The problem that we have found with Walmart is that some of their items are behind lock and key. We have just walked out when a wait time of close to thirty minutes results in no one showing up after the initial contact. Customer service is still important. they don’t have it.
TomD
More items than you might expect are MADE IN USA at Walmart – basically, anything that has a high shipping cost relative to sale cost they’re trying to domesticate.
The first one I noticed were the large trash cans – shipping giant empty plastic is best done for short distances.
TomD
I suspect that we may find their new stackable storage to be made in USA, or at least major assembly/components.
ITCD
They’ve been selling Arrow Plastics products there for a long time. Stuff like plastic cups. The price per is cheap but since cups are nesting and light weight the shipping isn’t a huge deal.

What sizes are in the 3pc set, the visual looks smaller than 17/25/36, and price feels too low for that also. Walmart’s product page is pretty non-descript.

Dave answered the below after I opened the page:
“I was curious too and found this in one of the product reviews: The 3 lengths of 3 1/2, 7 1/2 and 12 inches.”

Yep I commented about it on the Hyper Stack post, I’ve had a couple for a while they are 100% Wilde made. The funnels and drain pans are all flotool and made in the USA for cheaper then anywhere else too, and the oil spill mats. Honestly if you walk around walmart and actually look for C.O.O. on products, people would probably be suprised just how much of what they sell is actually made in the USA. Hyper Tough/Walmart has a few gems
LE
Forgot to add they have a cheaper multi pack of Hyper Tough branded pry bars right next to these, and they are not made in the USA by Wilde. Don’t get those by accident
eddiesky
That’s … Wilde! (ok,… groan)
Can use a 24″ Pry… this is cheap!
DC
Hmmm, might go to WM and pick some up. I have 10+ year old Mayhews but can always use more Made in USA tools.

I have actually been enjoying Hyper Tough tools. Sure, I have Milwaukee M12 and Flex 24 volt and a crap ton of SBD Craftsman hand tools. I also have a complete set of Hyper Tough hand tools. I literally have every type of pliers they sell and love it. The 4 volt screwdrivers work a treat, too. Especially at 10.00 and 15.00 for each style of 4 volt screwdriver.

Yeah they have been there for years. Same with Menards but I hate Menards’ green tools. Drop green colored tools into grass and good luck finding them. I keep a can of spray paint around just purely for green or dark colored tools.
Scott K
This was very surprising. Sorry- can’t recall the commenter that posted about this on the Hyper Tough storage post, but I went on their site to check it out and was pleasantly surprised. I picked up a set of the Wilde made Craftsman prybars a while ago. They’ve seen little use but worked great when needed. There is a $100 metal tool storage listed that looks intriguing for a homeowner that doesn’t beat up this kind of stuff.

Yep. As are Chennel Lock, Menards, and probably more. This was quite well known actually and I tried tracking them down but unfortunately couldn’t track any down so went with Menards.
Nathan
Can you get any other size other than 17 inch? I don’t see any
Stuart
There’s a list of sizes with links towards the end of the post.
Jim Felt
Except for the rather klutzy WM (hmmm. Sounds like another vendor: Waste Management) will call “experience” the 36” bar is a great value.
Brad
I bought a variety of Wilde pry bars, along with a few other tools, from Harry Epstein’s for a great price. Pry bars aren’t rocket surgery, but they’ve been top notch.
As for Wilde, they don’t innovate to nearly the degree that Knipex does, but their actual production quality seems to be just as good. I realize that those might be interpreted as fighting words by some, but I’d recommend giving them a try before getting too worked up. Note that they actually produce many of Tekton’s USA-made tools.
xrh07
Wilde is great for punches and prybars. Their hand tools/pliers are absolutely not as good as Knipex though. (though sometimes they don’t really need to be either) I have Wilde flush fastener pliers and Knipex twin grips being the most similar products for apples to apples and the Knipex is a substantially better made set of pliers. I wouldn’t bet on any of their tongue and groove/adjustables even touching Cobras or Pliers wrenches either which.
The Wildes are pretty mediocre as far as pliers go, more in line with Channellock if anything. Knipex has mediocre products too ofc, like their vise grips.
ITCD
PliersWrench isn’t really in the conversation because Wilde doesn’t make anything like that or trying to be anything like that. They do have their own bits of innovation though, and do deserve a nod for being the people who originally came up with the idea of doing angled pliers which increases leverage and makes them self-locking, which everyone else rides off of these days.
But on the pliers front, the flush fastener is a unique offering for adjustable pliers (no rivet like Channellock, bolt like many others, button like Knipex). They have pump pliers with a wire cutter which is unusual and unique and might be just what someone was after. The Grip-Tight Clip on select pliers which keeps them from swinging around when you don’t want them to. The Pipe Wrench Pliers, 90-degree pliers that also have an anti-pinch built in. And their little angle nose slip joints are a perfect pair of pocket pliers.
