Weller LED Soldering Iron 25W

Weller, a big name in soldering irons and stations, has come out with a line of new LED-equipped soldering irons. These irons range in size from 15W to 80W and feature a triangular grip area with three built-in LED lights.

Features

  • Available in 15W, 25W, 40W, and 80W sizes
  • Co-molded and ribbed handle grip
  • Triangular handle
  • Robust cord strain relief
  • 5-foot cord
  • Stainless steel heating element
  • Prices range from $15 to $28
  • 7-year warranty

These irons are designed for DIYers, hobbyists, consumers, and even professions who could benefit from direct lighting when soldering.

Sizes

Light Duty: 15W, 750°F max
Standard Duty: 25W, 750°F max
Medium Duty: 40W, 900°F max
Heavy Duty: 80W, 900°F max

Most electronics hobbyists will probably lean towards the 25W iron, which should be best for soldering smaller wires and through-hole components. Those working with smaller components, such as SMDs, will probably reach for the 15W iron. The 40W and 80W irons are best for soldering larger wires and craftwork.

The new irons are also available at most major home improvement stores. The base model includes a small stand and single tip, and kits include the iron stand, additional tips, a soldering aid tool, and a short coil of lead-free solder.

A bunch of other relatively new tools also feature built-in LEDs, such as: Craftsman cutter, Craftsman screwdriver, SOG pocket knife, Craftsman 12V cordless tool battery. And don’t forget that we’ve seen LEDs built into cordless drills and drivers for a couple of years now. For the most part, adding LEDs to this line of soldering irons makes perfect sense.
