Hot Deal: Wera Tool Bundle Advent Calendar for $20

Wera 2013 Advent Calendar Tool Assortment

Over at Amazon, a Wera Tools 2013 advent calendar has dropped in price to $19.50. Yesterday it was around $40, and two weeks ago it was $50 and change.

For the money, you get small and large bit checks (premium bit holders), a Rapidaptor quick change locking bit holder, a bunch of screwdriver bits, a Joker ratcheting wrench, a bottle opener, precision screwdriver (discussed here), and a couple of other tools.

This is a nice random assortment of Wera tools for $20. It’s almost like a sampler pack, with a little bit of everything. The only downside I could see is that the premium Kraftform screwdriver is Pozidriv and not Phillips.

Buy Now(via Amazon)

In case you’re wondering, I just ordered one. I have been meaning to pick up a second Rapidaptor and a screw gripper, and could definitely use the bit storage boxes. The extra bits, screwdrivers, and wrench simply sweeten the deal.

      A couple of weeks ago.

Meanwhile, they seem to have increased benefits for Prime subscribers. A few weeks ago I received a package on a Sunday (discussion), and today I received one before 8am. I typically prefer for Amazon to ship my packages via UPS, but they sometimes get packages to me quicker via USPS. The order I received this morning was placed only 16 hours ago!

I’ve had Prime for years and like the service and convenience – but hardly ever take advantage of its other benefits (my bad I guess). What I think I’ve noticed, however, is that Amazon may be building shipping costs into some product prices – more reason for checking local sources (e.g. HD and Lowes) for prices and look elsewhere if you are buying in bulk – where flat rate shipping at other internet sources may make the unit price lower.

Ordered two (one for a friend), I’ve had my eye on this for the fun of it. Better than the Lego advent calendar!

How can you prefer PH over PZ is beyond me.

Because I don’t use PZ fasteners, and don’t come across them very often either.

Yup. Shortly after this post went up, someone at a deals forum posted about the sale as well. Not many 50%-off+ deals will survive long after hitting deal forums.

    Hi,

Can someone explain the use of the bitholder? What is the advantage over whatever it attaches to via the rear hex shank? Is it just for ease of use over a chuck?

    Cheers, Ben

A lot of 1/4″ hex cordless screwdrivers cannot work with 1″ insert bits. The same goes with drill/drivers, which can only fit 2″ power bits.

Many impact drivers also require bit holders in order to use 1″ bits, but Wera’s Rapidaptor is not impact-rated.

Thus, bit holders like the Rapidaptor make it possible to use smaller bits with tools that are not natively compatible with such bits.

In some cases, a bit holder would be used as an extension that provides greater reach.

I use it on my regular drill to give me quick change abilities.

I know it isn’t impact rated, but I’ve used my Rapidapter in my impact driver all the time. Just recently I was running in 4 inch tox head screws (t30) into railroad ties, with no I’ll effects. I almost ordered this, just to have a spare Rapidapter in case the impact driver eventually breaks it. FWIW, the Rapidapter is my favorite bit holder, and let’s me use those cheap and easy to find 1 inch bits in my impact driver.

The Rapidaptor is my favorite bit holder as well, and I also favor Wers socket but holders.
