Save a Little on Some Great Wera Screwdriver Sets!

Wera Kraftform Kompakt 25 Multi-Bit Screwdriver

Over at Amazon, they’ve got some kind of “Save Big” promotion on select Wera tool and tool sets. Some of the deals are GREAT! Others, not so much. You can see all of the deals here, but I’ll also describe the better ones below.

Some of the deals are temporarily out of stock, but you can still order them.

Shown above, the Wera kraftform Kompakt 25 multi-bit screwdriver is on sale for around $26. It’s a great on-the-go and EDC screwdriver, and you can use the included long bit holder in your power tools in a pinch.

A long Rapidaptor bit holder is priced at nearly $22 by itself. The shorter one, which I own and love using, is not any less expensive.

A button press slides the handle back to reveal 6 standard screwdriver bits. The bit holder can be used in 2 positions.

The screwdriver comes with a belt pouch.

My own minor grumble is that the handle is a little chunky, but I got used to it quickly. It’s worth it for the unique bit storage solution.

I bought this Wera Kraftform 334/6 screwdriver set around 7-1/2 years ago, and it’s still going pretty strong. I remember being a little upset that the drivers didn’t seem to have the golden-colored Lasertip tips that I had seen on other Wera drivers, but they’re still micro-grooved and engage fasteners with very strong and tight grip.

These aren’t my everyday drivers anymore, but I can’t bear to get rid of them. I tend to reach for them when working on fasteners that I really don’t want to slip.

The set is currently on sale for nearly $24. I paid $24.00 for the set back in mid-2009. If you’ve been looking for a new set of mixed Phillips and slotted drivers, this is a good deal for great screwdrivers.

I’ve owned this set of Wera precision screwdrivers also for around 7-1/2 years now.

As mentioned in my Best Precision Screwdrivers roundup, these Wera mini drivers are very nice, but the grip zone can be a long reach if you’re palming the swivel end cap.

Wera has expanded their selection of precision screwdrivers in recent years, but Wiha is still king when it comes to breadth of selection. If you just need some mini Phillips and slotted drivers, this is a good set.

It’s currently priced at a hair over $20.

The expiration date is unknown. These prices are good, but not “gee golly I’ve GOT to buy them NOW” great. The savings are good enough to where I’d move something from my wishlist to my cart.

I bit (pun intended) on this deal as a stocking stuffer.
Too bad the Kompakt 26 (adds a Robertson bit) wasn’t similarly priced:

The only difference seems to be a square bit instead of one of the Phillips or slotted bits. Could anyways do that oneself.

I think that the 25 is the only version I’ve seen on sale or otherwise discounted.

The Wera Kraftform 334/6 screwdriver set is out of stock already.

That was a really good price! I just paid $34.86 to have them shipped to me from KC Tools.

That and the precision screwdriver set were temporarily sold out even before the post went up.

But they’re not seasonal items. As long as you’re willing to wait a little, they’ll ship more as soon as they get them from Wera.

Stuart – What are your feelings on the Zyklop ratchet after you’ve had some real time with it? Your last mention of it was a couple years ago when you worked on your car.

I really like them. I’ve been working on a bolt-together frame for a tool cabinet, and it required a lot of adjustments until I got the drawer heights and everything spot on.

I ran into frustrations with my hex key, pulled out my 1/4″ Zyklop ratchet, and it worked like a charm. Compared to my other swivel ratchets, the locking head is a HUGE advantage. Sometimes the one-step adjustment is a hinderance, but most times the active lock is a convenience.

The handles get dirty easily. I’ve got grease and black oxide smudges on my 3/8″ ratchet from the last time I worked on the framing. I’ll give Simple Green a shot at it later today.

I own a 1/4″ set and a 3/8″ set, both SAE, and like them a lot.

The locking extensions are sometimes frustrating to use. I might buy regular non-locking 3″ extensions to swap into the kits. But maybe the ball detent in those will be just as stiff.

I wouldn’t want these Wera Zyklop ratchets to be my only ones, they’re pretty short. While I don’t need greater torque all that often, it happens often enough.

Luckily, and I hope I don’t jinx myself, but I haven’t dropped any sockets into inaccessible places anytime recently.

Thanks for the feedback. I honestly don’t need more ratchets and definitely don’t need more sockets, but I like the thought of the swivel.

I bought a large set of the Wera precision screwdrivers a few months ago and for the little I’ve used them I like them. Much better than the junk I’ve used in the past. It was hard to spend that much on small screwdrivers but in the long run it will be worth it.

I also just got my order from KC Tool where I ordered a set of the Kraftform Torx drivers and a set of Insulated Screwdrivers. I haven’t used them, but I like the feel and quality I’m seeing from both sets.

I believe for Christmas I will be receiving the 12 piece set of Stainless Wera drivers. I was told to ask for something I wanted but wouldn’t buy for myself. I sent them a link to the set on KC Tool with the 20% off coupon code.

I just spent a few minutes at KC Tool Co, looking at comparable Wiha precision sets. These sets are interesting:

    – Wiha 26194, $15: 4 pieces, PH000, PH00, PH0 and PH1

    – Wiha 26197, $20: 7 pieces, PH00, PH0, PH1 and four slotted sizes ranging from 1.5mm to 3mm

    – Wiha 26199, $33: 8 drivers and a canvas pouch. PH000, PH00, PH0, PH1. Slotted 1mm, 2mm, 3mm and 4mm.

Note that these are everyday prices, not sale prices. It does seem like Wera commands a premium price compared to Wiha and Felo drivers.

Also, here are some more prices from KC. These are Wera sets that are more directly comparable to the Wiha sets in my original comment.

      – Wera 345260, $19: Four Phillips drivers, PH000, PH00, PH0 and PH1. The same sizes as the Wiha 26194.

      – Wera 345271, $25: 7 pieces. PH00, PH0, PH1 and four slotted drivers from 1.5mm to 3.0mm.

Going by these two, I guess the Wera premium is about 25%.

The Wera precision screwdrivers have more complex handles and make use of soft and hard plastic materials.

The basic Wiha driver is more simply designed and engineered with a hard plastic handle.

Wiha also makes a PicoFinish precision screwdriver, but selection is limited. I like my drivers, but for premium handles, the Wera is slightly more favorable.

In general, I like the basic Wiha driver best. Most of the time, I don’t need soft or multi-gripped handles, I need a reliable tip and I need a good variation in sizes – hex, Torx, etc., and I like an ESD option.

Also, when price shopping, keep in mind that some Wera precision screwdriver sets come with plastic holders. Some Wiha sets come with roll-up pouches.

Thanks for the heads up on the sale prices. I ordered a set of Kraftform Plus screwdrivers. They are described as their Chisel drivers which are a step up from the regular Kraftform drivers. The shaft goes clear through the handle, with a striking cap, and they also have a hex bolster for a wrench or pliers to give extra torque. They work really well on stubborn sheet metal and machine screws because you can apply torque while tapping with a hammer (works best to use a lighter hammer with sharp, quick raps). The hammering action seems to help break loose rust. I didn’t know how well the regular Kraftform drivers would take this treatment, so I paid the extra $10 for these. I’ve been considering a set for a while but never seemed to find them on sale until now.

Just as a heads up, the Kraftform Kompakt 25 is up to $31 and change.

I know this because I bought the Kraftform Plus 334/6 and insulated Kraftform Plus 160i/6.

Then after much hesitating, I told myself I was being silly and I’d use the Kompakt 25 constantly, and I should have also ordered that as well.

Too late now for me. It’s forever tarnished with this $6 increase and I’m doomed to wish for it until the price drops to $25.xx (or lower!!).
