Wera’s Zyklop Ratchet

Wera-Zyklops-Ratchet

Wera’s Zyklop ratchet is claimed to be “faster than a speeding bullet.” While this may not be entirely accurate, the Zyklop is as speedy a ratchet as we’ve ever seen. The Zyklop is based off of a traditional swivel ratchet design and incorporates several new user-friendly features.

First, a Zyklop ratchet head can be locked at 0°, 15°, and 90°. Second, the shaft of the tool features a freewheel sleeve which allows the tool to be spun faster and with greater stability when the head is set at 0°. Third, the dual component Kraftform handle is optimized for maximum comfort and torque.

The Zyklop greatly speeds up driving tasks – start a fastener in “screwdriver mode” and then rotate the tool to 90° for final tightening. Similarly, use the ratchet at 90° to loosen up tight fasteners and then switch to inline mode to spin them free.

Wera’s Zyklop ratchets are available separately and as part of larger complete socket and accessory sets. The Zyklop was released about a year ago, but has not been easy to find in the USA. You can buy Wera Zyklop ratchets and socket sets via Jamestown Distributors and Amazon.

Did you get one yet and are you going to do a full review?

I seriously like the look of this ratchet! I can see many possibilities for it’s use.

Billy, if we do a review on the Zyklop ratchet (and I really, really would love to), it won’t be for quite some time since there’s a long queue of other tools that are awaiting evaluation. That, and our budgets a bit tight these days, not that we regret it – we love throwing giveaways.

I did get a chance to handle a Zyklop while overseas, and it took everything in me to resist the temptation to buy one right then and there. That said, I highly doubt that you’ll be able to find someone who bought a Zyklop and regrets it.

I’ve been checking Amazon every few weeks or so hoping that they would carry the Zyklop either directly, or via Small Parts. We checked again a few days ago, and BAM there they were.

It makes sense, of course – all of the tools on my wishlist become available when I can least afford them.

I like the look of that rachet and look forward to a review. I have no experience with swivel rachets but I would think being able to lock them into place is a plus.

http://chadstoolbox.com/ has carried the full WERA line for a couple of years. Excellent prices and service.

The new Sears catalog also lists some WERA tools, but they’re not in the brick and mortar stores.

My go-to source for Wera tools is usually Amazon, with MSC and Small Parts as backups. I know Sears does carry a small selection of Wera tools online, but their prices are a bit higher.

I’ve heard decent things about Chad’s, and will likely be ordering from them in the future.
