KC Tool Wiha Promo Screwdriver Set August 2019

Over at KC Tool, they’ve discounted this Wiha 30293 Master Phillips and slotted screwdriver set as part of a fundraiser.

While supplies last, you save ~$25 on this 11pc Wiha screwdriver set, for a final price of $50. And since it’s $50 even, and not $49.99, it meets KC Tool’s free shipping threshold.

Discussion

I have Wiha screwdrivers of both styles – their SoftFinish full-size screwdrivers, and PicoFinish precision screwdrivers – and like them both.

However, I have not yet used this particular style of PicoFinish screwdrivers. My older-style ones, discussed in my best precision screwdrivers post, have shorter endcaps and look like they might have slightly thinner handles.

In my experience, Wiha screwdrivers are well-made, durable, and comfortable to use.

Even with a full set of screwdrivers (and then some), I am almost tempted by this set. It gives you a full range of Phillips screwdrivers from #000 thru #3, and a good selection of slotted screwdrivers. If it’s lacking anything it’s a 3 mm screwdriver and 5/16″ demo driver, but you can always buy those separately if needed. I believe that demo-driver-style Phillips #2 and 1/4″ or 5/16″ slotted screwdrivers are always good to have, as they’re designed for abuse and can save you from ruining other tools.

This promo is actually part of a fundraiser, Cultivate KC, with all proceeds going towards a Kansas City non-profit. From KC Tool:

Cultivate KC is a local Kansas City non-profit that works to grow food, farms and families by educating local growers and helping them connect to chefs, markets and consumers.

They ran a fundraiser promo last year, featuring a Felo Ergonic Phillips #2 screwdriver.

It’s hard to do price comparisons, but I think $50 shipped is a good price.

This promo set, model no. 30293, seems to be a special assortment. I can only find one retailer other than KC Tool that sells it, or where KC Tool is not a 3rd party marketplace seller. Digi-Key has it for ~$67, which is around what it would be at KC Tool if you use our 10% coupon code.

There’s no epxiration date, but supplies are limited. KC Tool says that all proceeds go to Cultivate KC.

I was tempted to buy this set, but I just bought some picofinish screwdrivers and have 3 full sets of Wiha softfinish screwdrivers. As far as the new picofinish screwdrivers, they are the same as the old ones only the endcap is bigger.

Sorry, there was a mistake in our link. It seems to be a moot point since it sold out very quickly. I really thought the deal would last a little longer.

      Great video and great question!

I have a pouch full of 70mm Wiha bits and a screwdriver handle, and it is an amazing screwdriver set when you need portability. The bits snap in securely and have minimal play, giving this combination a very solid and reassuring feel.

I basically bought every variation of screwdriver bit they make, many of which are security bits, and it’s so handy to have around.

When I’m working on something in the garage however, I prefer to use full-size screwdrivers. This is mainly because I like using a longer screw drivers whenever possible. My favorite is the 200mm Wiha #2 Phillips driver. The super long blade makes getting into deep recesses a non-issue, and something about having a long screwdriver blade just makes the process feel much more controllable.

I would hate to have to wear a bunch of 200mm screwdrivers on a tool belt though! That’s where the pouch with handle and bits is the solution.

        Thank you!

These are mostly Wiha screwdriver bits also, but the problem is Wiha does not make all sizes in 150mm (6″) length, I have to get hexagonal bits in 6″ length from Wekador, I have some more sets, I will make a video about them later, probably tomorrow, they are in 50mm (2″) length as it is not easy to find every screwdriver bit in 70mm or 150mm length, even for 50mm ones I had to search a lot. I still do not understand the logic behind the screwdriver sets if this is an option and a good option.

There are long screwdriver bits also, up to 300mm length, but they are not made by main brands, I think a German brand called Projahn does, if I am not wrong, but the bits are not made in Germany, the bits are average quality, but you can not compare them with Wiha ones.

I read all the comments and the whole link, I would say it depends on the person and the use, if you want to use them in your workshop you might go for screwdrivers but if you do maintenance it is easy to have a long screwdriver bit set with a handle, when the bits are worn out there is less waste and almost no plastic waste unless you break the handle. Also you can use these bits with power tools also in case if you need to, but you can not use the screwdrivers with power tools unless you cut the screwdriver in half! The reason that the bits are worn out quickly is that you use them with power tools sometimes, any screwdriver bit used with power tools would be worn out quickly, we use them with power tools sometimes because we have the option of using them like that. With small screwdriver bits there are smaller/thiner handles with C4 precision bits or other types which Wera does some. I have a set like that also but I can see the brands are slowly going towards E6.3 even for precision bits I can send some links if you want. Soon all bits will be available with E6.3 hex shanks. That was a discussion between me and my friend who is in love with Makita tools specially with their Drills as he was claiming Makita ones are smaller than DeWALT ones, I said to him he is short and small like Japanese that is why Japanese make Makita 🙂 I am tall 6′ 3″ and my hands are big I don’t have problem with DeWALT drills. It is the same with screwdriver bit handle for me, I don’t like those tiny handles, they get lost in my hand, they are made for Japanese and ladies maybe. I don’t know, but not for me.

    Just FYI.
Kc-tools like any quality store will honor their prices on deal of the day, it will just take a little longer to get them.
Usually it gets to me in Ga, within 1 week.
I highly recommend them for this practice.
Since I work during the day, I often read my emails at night.
Kc is one of my favorite stores.
Unlike Amazon who sent my last prime day deals 2 days ago.
